- Living my touge battle dreams against this S2000 on this Sunday morning drive. The route had 16,000 feet of elevation change over the course of 90 miles, so it really had a little bit of it all.

great roads. the way the S2K driver was moving they knows their cara and thise roads well. great to see
Yep, he's a solid driver.
7:20 damn
Wildlife always spice things up! Nice driving.
Only one thing that is missing: open roof
thoughtful upgrade list for the Miata as well 🤔
The way I think of it the miata just has a more livable engine everyday, where if you want a literal race engine on the street the S2000 is the best
"a literal race engine"
- substantiate that claim
Some would argue that the ND is more worthy of having a “race engine” considering how much the cup cars are raced. Vs a S2000 that never really had much official race presence in its day.
beautiful road and sound :)
Love my Phase Two Tuned Abarth 124 Spider.
Every time one of these car’s driving with the roof up there’s an mx5 engineer in Japan crying 😢
Just trying to get some usable audio.
Cool video! Previous brz,gt86 owner here. Currently in an i20N if you know what one of those is :)
I test drove a GR86 few days ago and found it to be a massive upgrade on my old cars apart from the steering! What did they do :(( my friend has just bought a stock fiat 124 and let me drive it, I've never driven a miata,s2k or roadster before and even the stock 124 felt really good and i think more fun then GR86...can this be right? Felt so much lighter and agile and preferred the steering. Makes me want to try an ND2 now for the na engine as opposed to the turbo in the 124 👍
I really enjoy the 86 platform, I just stayed away because I could never trust the flat 4 they put in those things. And agreed the NA engine is the better option in this chassis.
@@GoDriveMX5 yeah always thought flat 4 was like a bag of nails 🤣😡
Debating between a modded ND2 or an S2K. Do you think modded ND2 is the way to go? Curious how much sharper the ND2 gets with mods
I have only driven relatively stock s2000s, A modded ND2 is much "sharper" than the S2000 is stock, like a lot sharper. less weight and better steering. Personally the only thing a S2k has going for it in comparison is the engine, It makes the ND2 feel like it was a economy car engine in comparison, and the ND2s engine isn't even that bad, the s2ks is just that good.
Once you get rid of that comically soft coilover setup from Mazda the ND2 does really come alive though, and I doubt you'll be disappointed.
I looked into s2ks before I pulled the trigger on my ND2. Ended up not being able to justify spending almost the same money on a car that is 20 years old.
@@GoDriveMX5 Thanks a lot for the detailed reply I really appreciate it. Seems like ND2 is the way to go unless you’re super nostalgic for an S2K.
Supercharge the miata or best value is buy one already supercharged.
@@GoDriveMX5 How do you feel about AP1 and AP2? Which is better? I know they went to drive by wire for the throttle 2006 onwards. In europe we kept 2.0L but it did get ap2 treatment overall so i ponder between ap1 or very early facelift ap1 or ap2(i've got to have manual throttle i miss it too much)
@@Kacpa2 Sadly I've never driven an AP1
Amazing driving, where are these roads?
Side by side s2k looks way bigger than the miata lol definitely some weight to that bad thing haha
With ‘narrow’ 205 tires don’t expect much performance. Switch tires to 215 or 225 width.
The fuck
s2000 owner is extremely cute
What road is this? How is a 16k ft of elevation change possible?! That's crazy!
16k when you add the up and down
V nice. S2000 can only make ground on a longer faster bit of road.
Very true, the s2k is also a 20+ year old platform now. IF Honda actually does release a new S2000 and keeps to all that made this one good and simply update it I’m sold. For now the ND2 Miata is the best money can buy in this market especially with some smart upgrades.
How confortable is it to have coilovers for daily normal use?
Not terrible, but if you are worried just get a slightly softer spring rate than the 10k 6k. It can be jarring at times.
On 245-4o tires!!!! Did you throw your liners in the garbage? Unsprung weight doesn’t seem to bother you.
No I didn't even have to roll the fenders. it's a popular size for the 17×9 crowd and has proven itself to be fast on track.
missing some Slowdive music with the top down then this would have been perfect
rare in yellow
Damn. 2 of my favourite cars. Im looking to put one in the garage soon.
Mx5 nd2
S2000
Gr86
The problem is they are all the right choice 🛞
Can't go wrong with any of them
