How To: Replace Broken Reel Seat on Old Fishing Rod ep. 32

- The old reel seat was broken about 2 yrs ago and never took the time to fix it. Here is my first attempt putting a brand new reel seat on an old fishing rod. While I understand the concept but never try it before. If I did something wrong or better way of doing it, please let me know.

THANKS for not ruining your demonstration with annoying "music"!! You did a great job.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your support!
Nice. I didn't know what it was exactly you were doing at first but it turned out really well done. Thanks for posting it
I just finished viewing your video as the reel seat on one of my favorite rods is in very bad shape. You did an excellent job of explaining the procedure. Thank you, I'm now have the confidence to undertake this project. Happy Fishing
Glad it helped. Good luck with the project!
Nice video. Kept it simple and straight forwards. I hope my own build goes equally smooth. Great job.
good luck. How did it turn out?
Great job of bringing that old rod back to life. Looks great.
Thanks. It was a fun little winter project when I can't get out to fish.
I built my 1st fishing rod a little while ago, I got a lot of satisfaction out of it. I put it on UA-cam and got really good response from it!!! Leanne's in the middle of building her 1st fishing rod and looking forward to putting that one on UA-cam too!!! She's putting the same fish pattern but different colors on it. It's coming along quite nicely!!! Doing the fish pattern with the cotton is quite tedious. I think you'll find you'll get a lot of satisfaction out of building and repairing your own rods!!! Take care and tight lines!!!!!
Thanks Rodney. It was a fun little project. I wish I could say I built the whole rod from scratch. I need to learn from you. :)
I'm trying to get Leannes on film so we can get it on UA-cam!! It'll be a little while off yet. Take care and tight lines!!!
Thank you for the video - I just completed mine last night and it turned out awesome!!!
Great..I'm glad you can the vid as a reference. Would love to see your work of art. Thanks for watching.
Gills-N-Thrills I don’t think I can place images into UA-cam comments but here is a link

Awesome Video mate, you got me interested in giving it a try now.
Thank you for watching. Def give it a try - lot easier than I thought. Look to more of your awesome snapper fishing videos. Tight lines mate!
That came out awesome! Gonna have to do that to my rods soon.
Thanks. Def give a try if you have any old rods. Not too hard and a little fun project.
Good job, you did a really nice job!
Thank you. It was a fun little project.
Dude..........killa watch.
Thank you sir. Appreciate the comment and watching the video.
Makes my 10th Ugly Stick, both freshwater and saltwater. Nothing better. Hold up to everything I catch.
Hi there i just got in the mail two reel seats & my question is dose the reel seat have to sit snugly on the bushings?
Nice! I've never had to replace a rod seat but guides always break on me... got a nice terminator 6 ft 2nd hand with an abu garcia 9000, after leadering 2 sizable tarpon, a lesser barracuda broke 3 guides. Still need to fix those.
Thanks for checking in. The terminator rod is very very nice rod, def worth while to get the guides fix. Put out a video on how to change the guide, I'd to see how it's done properly. Tight lines.
Never did it before either, but looks good. Nice job!!!
Thanks George. Can't wait for spring to come and see you and the capt fluking in Jbay.
Bugger!! i came hereto see how i can remove the old handle wish you were covering that too
That is a great job!
That’s freakin awesome.
Awesome video wish I had a copy.
+Ronald Watkins thank you for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope it's useful in some way.
Extraordinario!. Me ha servido mucho. Gracias!
well, since no one w/rod building experience has commented,I will. You most likely screwed up by using the epoxy you did. Rod building epoxy is much thicker and stays where you put it. You coat the tape but JUST AS IMPORTANT,fill the valleys between the tape. This is the only way to get 100% coverage and adhesion of reel seat and blank. Now,I'm not saying that this rod you did will fail at the seat,I'm simply stating that the possibility is now there with that runny-ass epoxy you used. I really didn't see any other issues w/how you did it. A little rod building epoxy and some isopropyl alcohol to clean up any excess and it would have been a pretty quality job. Hope it doesn't fail. And thumbs up for attempting this instead of trashing a good rod(as most do).
I really really appreciate the constructive feedback. Thanks. I hoping I did the right thing but now a little concern with the epoxy - even though jb weld are super strong. If I'm ever going to do it again, I'll def. take your advise. Again thanks for pointing out mistakes. Take care.
No, that's not really trou. You don't have to fill the gaps of the masking tape. That way you make a heavier rod then nedded. You just make shure that the shims gets covered in glue and that way no moist or water will effect it. What could been done to get much better gluebond is to rough up the inside of the reel seat if it isn't already have preshaped bond structure. I think for one that never done this before this replecement job is really good. I made hundreds of rods and can by experiance say that handle should hold this rods lifetime easily. For the handles I'm a bit more worried. As one already comment before, it's always better to get guides of the blank and mount thing the proper way. Then you can get things really snug, waterproof and don't have to use harldly any glue at all.
Wow your channel is impressive and I can't wait to see it grow! You get a ton of views on every video! I just subbed back.
Thanks for the encouragement. Love your channel too as I'm staring to bass fish this season. Picking up all the tips from you guys. tight lines.
Thanks man! We do a little educational but we might start doing more instructional stuff if there's an audience for it.

Good job....
Awesome diy!!
Thank you. Really appreciate your support and checking out the video.
You build as well? Heat will get the finish and loosen epoxy enough to remove it.
Still learning. I tried the heat but the resin still wouldn't loosen. Anymore heat, I think I would've burn the blank. I need to check your video and learn some of your techniques. tight lines
Thanks information..
No problem. I hope this help with your project. Thank you
Happen to recall where that particular corkands seat was from ?
I don't remember but you might find similar at Mudholes, Ebay or even amazon. Good Luck
I remove all lineguides and install the handle from top down. Press it on with glue.
Thank you for watching. Removing the line guides and going that way would've been the right way to do it . More work but correct.
Over all great job though
nicely done!!!👍👍👍👍
Thank you sir for watching. I appreciate your support.
Looks great
+Terry Shrives thank you sir and stopping by the channel.
Well done
Thank you sir for watching. Hope to have.more rod building and lure making videos soon.
looks great
Thank you sir. Thanks for watching.
Good
Thank you for your support. I appreciate the nice comment.
Can you explain the process of glueing the cork grip to the vss reel seat ? Any tips or tricks ? Or did you not pre-glue them together ? Thank you.
+vanstaaler the cork came pre-glued to the reel seat.
GNT, thank you for the reply, but you must have misunderstood my question. Around the 2:00 minute mark in the video, you are handling the "Contoured Cork Foregrip" for the "Fuji VSS Spinning Reel Seat" At this point in the video, the cork is separate from the reel seat. (You even easily slide them apart at 2:06. When you are finished, it is attached to the reel seat. I want to know if you preglued them together, or just attached them when putting seat on rod. Thank you. Stu
Cut towards your chum, not towards your thumb!

light jigging rod?
No.this is an old jigging rod for near shore jigging
Guess you don't like trigger grip seat?
For round baitcaster - no; but for low profile, it's a must. Thanks for checking the channel.
@@GillsNThrillsFishing i guess? Found it easier to cast with a trigger to anchor down that index finger for grip. Unless its a surf rod.
Harusnya dari atas pasang reel sheatnya
Like my friend good
👍👍👍
Thank you for watching.
Sounds like mike tyson
No don't fish with it hang it on the wall. To nice. LOL
