I love this game, and that's impressive driving! I notice you don't use any handbrake on the hairpins at all, and don't really drift it through the tight bends.... it looks so smooth it's almost as if you are using a steering wheel to turn.Nice!

Also I love how (except shortcuts through spectators) this game does not permit players to make world record runs by “breaking the rules” like Absolute Drift Zen Edition did… In ADZE the top 3 players on the global leaderboard for some tracks had spun around themselves throughout the course, clearly not making a good drift run but beating the game using a loophole… it was annoying to know that there was no truly legit way of making a world record if players had found this kind of loophole, even if the closest I ever got was 5th place…. I much much more appreciate knowing that the reason I’ll never break a world record is because the record is held by you who is better at driving than I’ll ever be… This is one thing AOR does better than ADZE (though both games are amazing)
Generally losing grip is always un-optimal. You want to push your tires right up to the point where they'd lose grip and hold there. Tires sort of slide a little when you're close to losing grip, called having a slip-angle, you can use this to help turn/rotate the car a little easier. One way to tell is that if your tires are leaving fully black lines, then you've lost grip. Feint light gray lines left by tires is generally fine, though you'd want to minimize that too.
It's similar to what you can do with a real car. If your rpms are low enough that you're out of the powerzone, you can tap the clutch to increase revs, and then deliver them through a partially sliding clutch resulting in more power. Doing this to the extent I do in game would ofc destroy a clutch in no time. In aor, the powerzone is right at the very top, which is why it's still useful so high in the rev range, basically anytime you can tap it shortly enough that you don't hit the limiter, you'll get a tiny boost. It's usefulness in game is unintentional, but it would apparently be difficult to fix without completely removing the clutch, so it's unlikely to be 'fixed'.

But on the other hand I do find it quite fun. It's something more to do, adds an interesting layer of challenge. Kinda like playing a rhythm game while driving a car. 😄
Pretty much. I think as long as there's extra grip, and rpms low enough to not hit limiter when clutching, there's a benefit. I'm not exactly how much clutch is beneficial though, but some of it definitely is. I'd estimate it to be worth around 1s/1min of stage on average.
Well tbh some of it might still be the entry level cars. g2 cars have excessively low grip, the 86 is also one of the harder to control cars. The best cars in the mid groups feel a lot better, but it's also true that aor cars have less grip than real ones, sliding is also extra bad.

@@plantelo huh, how is it omitted? He drifts almost every corner. Also as many great AC players made me belive, drifting the right way is faster than most people make it out to be, often matching and sometimes exceding the times of gripping with the right track and car.

How do you know how far you can slide the car before you are losing too much speed?

I personally call it clutch boosting, in aor there's benefit to constant clutch taps due to weird power curve and stuff. Basically speedrunning tech.
