    Great video thank you. I've been on the hunt for a modern looking stove that had soap stone, this one fits the bill perfectly!

    I have the same stove and agree with much of your review. However, to get the stove started, I simply use paper, cardboard, and kindling. No fancy measures are taken. Fire starts up quickly and without issue.

    I wish you would do a review on the mansfield soapstone stove . Your review is trustworthy!

      @@StanwoodStudios I am looking to put this in a poorly insulated 600sq ft cabin with 12ft ceilings, and use it as my main source of heat over the entire winter. I know you mentioned this would not be ideal for constant use, but would you care to elaborate on that more? It seems these use less wood compared to a vermont castings equivalent despite similar LLV and HHV ratings.

      I should clarify that as a main heat source other stoves may be more practical to operate day to day, i.e. side load/ top load, on a pedestal etc. I have been using this stove every day. I think in your application it would absolutely be practical. Good quality wood and proper chimney height are key to success with this stove in my opinion.

    Thanks for sharing! Thinking of getting the same stove. I too love the aesthetics of the GM 60 but am worried about the how it can be finicky to get started. I also like it for the 26% tax credit.

      Once you get in the groove and have good dry wood it's not an issue, just not as easy as an old school stove!

    I have the same stove and am frustrated with the "smoke in the face" when tending the fire before reaching catalytic temperature. Plus when we had a 11-day power outage the thermometer in the house went from 50 to 56. Not enough for a cozy feel. My only option at this time is to cut a new hole in the ceiling so the chimney goes straight vs. 2 bends.

    • @StanwoodStudios
      @StanwoodStudios  Рік тому

      I hear you on the first part, draft is super important on this stove. I can’t open the door very far without smoke coming back unless the flue is 300 + degrees.
      If it’s not heating your house then it’s probably too small for your space.
      90 degree bends drastically reduce draft in a smoke pipe. Insulated interior pipe will help as well.

    Great review. Succinct. There was no rambling or wasting of my time. That’s hard to find in a review video these days.

    Hi first time listening to your videos I found it extremely informing I have just one question can you tell me the big difference between the GM 60 and the Travis LOPI stove?

    • @StanwoodStudios
      @StanwoodStudios  Рік тому +1

      When I did my research last year the biggest difference I found was that Lopi was using re-burner/ double re-burner tech to meet the new EPA standards while the green mountain is using re-burner plus catalytic converter to meet the standard.

      I have a Lopi evergreen. Its an amazing stove, no smoke in the face if you open the damper first. Heats up quick, i get about 9 hour burn times, i have an eco fan and its always still spinning in the morning

    I have the same stove. it's pretty awesome. I'm curious if you get some dark moisture leaking by the legs occasionally? I can't figure out why that happens on mine.

    • @StanwoodStudios
      @StanwoodStudios  Рік тому

      I recall experiencing that a little bit in the beginning but now a year + in I haven't had any issues. I have to assume that could be liquid residue from the manufacturing process or something.

    You have been using the HS Green Mountain 60 for some time now...any issues with it? Deciding between it and a PE Alderlea T5 which has had all great reviews.

    • @StanwoodStudios
      @StanwoodStudios  Рік тому

      Just have to be sure to use good quality firewood. I’m about to fire up again for this heating season so I’ll be making some follow up videos. Regarding the PE Aldeea T5, after taking a quick look, it looks like it doesn’t have a catalyst and is lower efficiency. However this may help with lower chimney heights and lower quality wood.

    • @StanwoodStudios

      I have had moisture drip from the chimney and bottom of stove when I’m not burning efficiently (smoking a lot) and when the wood I’m burning has too high moisture content.

    I just had this stove installed Yesterday. Need to do a burn in soon. How was the burn in procedure for you?

    • @StanwoodStudios
      @StanwoodStudios  2 роки тому +1

      Very easy, manual just said to burn in the stove til it just starts to be warm to the touch then close the air control and let it go out.
      I got it up to temp the next day, def open some windows for the fumes and smoke that come off the body of the stove heating up for the first time.
