Is Pokemon Legends Arceus REALLY That Good?!

- Pokemon Legends Arceus was recently confirmed to not be just a one-off with the announcement of Pokemon Legends Z-A! As I said in our original review of the game, this is future to believe in, and now we need to go back and look at Legends Arceus. It's special to this channel, so join me in this trip down memory lane.

It's the only game that's made we WANT TO complete the pokedex instead of just feeling kind of obligated to.
This ☝️
I have played Scarlet to Death so I'm playing my Violet for the first time and It is such a chore to fill it to get the shiny charm...
Arceus also gives you tasks to incentivize you to catch more of the same species.
Not me. It just felt like a chore list. Without having gyms and an elite 4, it felt pretty pointless.
@@abdizur8765I just find it really hard to replay tbh

the S/V technical problems are such a shame, if it actually performed and looked well it would probably be considered on of the better games in the series.
People seemed to resonate with the story more than most of the recent entries.
I still think it's a definite step in the right direction. I love the open world and I enjoyed the story. Technical things aside which I assume they will fix before gen 10 I've enjoyed SV immensely
Yep. That makes it so frustrating bc I can't recommend it to people bc its so garbage technically.
@@LooseAsADEUCEWhy does it matter if it’s fun? It really isn’t even that bad. A ton of modern games are worse. Games are supposed to be fun to play, not just something pretty to look at and not engage with in a meaningful way.
I said the same thing in my review! I really loved the ideas and I’m crossing my fingers that many of the Switch releases get the equivalent of Xbox’s FPS boost in Switch 2. Probably wishful thinking, but it’d get me into games I skipped due to technical constraints.
Legends Arceus felt like rediscovering Pokémon.
Best Pokemon game since Gen 1-3
Have you not played Pokémon past emerald? 💀
@@lombax3000 I did, and I still concur. Just because it's the best since then, doesn't make the gens in between bad.
@@iisanulquiorrahara8 fair point, I just think platinum, b2w2 and even oras (minus the battle frontier shit) is miles better than emerald
@@iisanulquiorrahara8agreed
My first games were the og red and gold, then years later I played their remakes, platinum, b B2..., and ultra sun, and so far black 2 was the best being objective (still my favorite is radical red hack)
Short answer: Yes.
But it's first official pokemon horror survivor game in my opinion. Those chased my an Alpha Snorlax or Alpha Rapidash, You know
Or being mass murdered by a group of angry Hippopotas... No matter what I do in that area, I will always be attacked by those damn hippos.
No* but you do you.

PLA is the ONLY modern Pokemon game that made me excited about Pokemon again after I stopped playing R/S/E. A complete breath of fresh air in the series that made me feel like a kid again about a Pokemon game and made me actually want to get a Switch just for this game. Not even Lets go Pikachu/Evee made me excited and R/B/Y were my first Pokemon games.
Let's go Pikachu and Eevee were terrible, especially as a game that was trying to pull in people from Go to play the classic main series. I couldn't tell you exactly where you could pick up after rse, because I don't know your tastes but I definitely wouldn't recommend that. I guess try HGSS if you want good looking sprites, solid mechanics, fun mini games balanced difficulty and not so overblown mechanics and following Pokemon. ORAS is too easy but it's just immersive and well made, and there's also USUM, that has insane Pokemon variety and difficulty but not a lot of wilderness, you can even catch Pokemon in towns which is a first. All 3 have good pokemon variety, but Pokemon variety increases the newer they are especially when it comes to legendaries. USUM has 46 legendaries for example and one of every fossil pair plus the ones that aren't pairs like Aerodactyl, and then there's island scan which bumps up variety even more.
@@rpgfanatic9719lets go was NOT that bad, the catching system was annoying tho
this became my favorite Pokémon Game ever. It's so refreshing. The formula is there, the classic Pokémon is there, but...better. Different. Fun.
Lol calls it better. Different. Fun, though funny enough I fail too see anything that details something special.
There was nothing to discover, just barren open fields. They nerfed battles by taking away abilities and story was basic.
It had a few good innovative elements like walking around while in battle and its unique theme to name a few, but overall I'd say its overrated with people only acknowledging it for it's good qualities and not it's bad.
SV lacked all it's good qualities but LA also lacked all of SVs good qualities.
I literally just bought this yesterday, it’s going to be my first Pokémon game
🔥🔥🔥
How do you like so far? Because I’m thinking about getting for my first Pokémon game too
@@joel.26js47 it's worth it bro, one of the best in the whole series
Same here, let us know please 😁
I think one of the more underrated parts of PLA are the move animations and the animations of the Pokémon using them, they FINALLY match up for the most part and look excellent in my opinion. Scarlet and violet rly let me down when I saw the move animations, it was such a step back from PLA
Yeah… S/V we’re my least favorite Pokémon games. And that’s saying something.
If Pokemon Legends Arceus was this good, I wonder what Legends Z will be like. I haven't played pokemon since sun and moon, just bought arceus yesterday and am enjoying it so much. The core gameplay mechanics are so great and fast paced. Only cons really is the lack of voice acting and the visuals are very pixelated. I hope they optimize Legends Z better.
It would be interesting to see the day, pokemon was voice acted :)
Recently played LA and some of the things I wanted the most is more interactivity with my mons like feeding, playing, and riding.
I wanna ride my alpha bibarel so bad man
It's nice to hope, but don't keep your hopes up
They may trip, one way or another
S/V had a good story, but so many gameplay decisions were such steps backwards it's baffling
@@primadansaripudin9269Yeah the interactivity in sun and moon with Pokemon was almost flawless because it had a tomagotchi mini game for all 807 Pokémon.
After PLA was almost everything I ever wanted, I bought SV for myself and my wife. I regret that very much. SV sucked. I won't buy any Pokemon game anymore until I experience it... in other than the usual way first. Pokemon lost all my trust.
It’s the best Pokémon game since black and white 2 tbh.
Insult
@@matthewbraith0411How so?
True
Imagine a Unova legends game with a deeper philosophical theme like B2W2 tried. Itd be fantastic
Crazyyyy gen 3 remakes are way better
Best Pokemon game I played since BW2 tbh
My initial reaction to PLA was that it had a lot of potential. It is a great blueprint for future games to build further upon. PLA itself contained a lot of good concepts, even though the game itself was kinda small compared to games like BotW. Still it had great innovations like:
- correct 3D Pokemon scaling
- Pokemon actually react to you in the overworld like they should (running away, ignoring you or even attacking you)
- Streamlining your choice of item and Pokemon, that felt way more natural than always choosing the Pokemon you just happen to have at the 1st slot
- Sidequests (where have these been all those years)
- Dynamic weather and day/night cycles
- Actually having to catch multiple of the same species to really complete the Pokedex, but it isn't tedious for the most part
- Actually throwing a Pokeball of choice at a wild Pokemon and approaching them the way you want and also throwing a Pokeball at them from behind increases the chance of catching them
Thanks for showing off the complete in-box experience! As a digital exclusive gamer only because I don’t have the space for physical media, I enjoy seeing the case and art - it makes me nostalgic for the car rides home engrossed in a new game purchase!
Pokémon legends Arceus was some of the best memories in a Pokémon game in 15 years for me. Truly a magical experience
Same! When I got to the mini island and area for chimchar and goomy I was so excited 😂
As someone who plays Pokémon alone, I liked how I was able to complete the Pokédex by my self. I never completed one before and this is the only game where I was able to
For real, none of that trade version exclusives or limited time pokemon bullshit
@@GamerPro0510 Exactly
Easily the best pokemon game on the switch
Good lord, what must the others be like then? :S

Yup totally agree
This is absolutely one of my favorite Pokémon games, right up there with my nostalgia for gold and silver when I was a kid. The evolution of the capture and battle system was absolutely perfect. As excited as I am for the next one, I still wish we could get a legends in Joto, my absolute favorite Region
Just found your channel and much like you said in this video, so much of what I play these days is based on the vibes I get from the game. Sometimes things are critically acclaimed and I just can't get into it. I would LOVE to see your take on Legend of Dragoon!
Most of this was a minecraft mod for almost a decade before it became actual pokemon mechanics.
PLA was the game that got me back into Pokémon (my last game before it was Pokémon Sapphire) so it will always hold a special place in my heart. I can't wait to see what PLZ-A does to make the experience even better.
Yupp i'm 1 of those people you speak of. I have 6 entire pokedexs filled and 300 to 400 shinies. Shiny hunting is a passion of mine. I'm glad Legends can let the series try new things and bring in more people.
I understood the nostalgia of a recent game the way you worded it. I felt the same way after 100% completing Sea of Stars after watching your first impressions of it and loving the journey and wanting to experience it for the first time all over again
Love this video! I really enjoyed that game! I plan on revisiting it soon. Life and other interests took over when this came out. You've inspired me to finish the game.
It definitely has its flaws but it’s the most fun I’ve had with a Pokémon game since black and white 2. It’s the shakeup the Pokémon formula needed and for that I think it’s awesome.
This game is so incredibly special to me. I remember the first trailer after the reveal coming out, and watching it over and over again. That trailer helped me convince my brother that we should go together on a switch just so we could play legends when it came out. My expectations going in to my first playthrough were unreasonably high, yet it was the most fun I'd had playing Pokemon. In one of the hardest times of my life (finishing highschool with plans on what to do next completely falling apart) this game was one of the few highlights. I doubt ZA will live up to Arceus in my mind, but I'm really happy gamefreak didn't have legends be a one-and-done situation.
Having gone back recently as in less than 6 months ago…
(I never did the post game as I thought I was not able to do so )😅
THAT final boss fight is amazing even though I steamrolled it and I was actually able to get my very first Arceus at the end of it all!!❤
When going back to this game it’s amazing how much better it runs compared to a mainline title being S/V.
For that reason alone I would say absolutely yes so whatever Legends has in 2025 I hope it’s polished but I highly doubt it.😢
This title was fantastic. It took time for me to appreciate it though. Also having the audible classic shiny pokemon noise 10/10❤
First Pokemon game ive completed the pokedex on as well. Great Pokedex set up, fantastic gameplay loop
1:00 I mean this made me realize it's already 2 years old 😳
Also I LOVE Legends Arceus! Can't wait for Legends ZA!
I remember spending hours on my pokemon fire red file and after beating the league, i normally stopped playing. The last game i had played was pokemon black 2 and i didnt really want to buy any more games, i did still follow the anime but i never really got excited for the new games.
However when i saw the trailer for legends, i knew i had to play it. It got me back into the pokemon games and i have spent hours on it, i didnt complete the dex but i did do a second playthrough with very loose nuzlocke rules where i shiny hunted eevee and learned the horrors of shiny hunting.
My current save file is already over 50 hours and i have yet to beat the main story in the second playthrough. And its mostly because the open world aspect is so fun
If they do the pokedex similar to PLA i hope they do more interesting tasks for each pokemon instead of just catching and evolving multiple of the same pokemon. Like maybe add pohotgraphs and more feeding wild ones. Just more variaty of how to fill out pokedex entries.
The feeding ones and special single tasks were definitely highlights of that aspect. As annoying as it got to get a full moon, it was really nice to get to watch the Clefairy dance. The catch and use move tasks were.. less fun. Use moves, I feel, could’ve been better with some more possibilities for battles with trainers? Or at least cutting down how many are required
I totally get it. Although a new game, legends arceus is oddly nostalgic for me as well. The music, the vibes, everything !
Ye arceus is the greatest mainline game so far. I loved it. I beat it with a passion. I enjoyed live boss fights so much
Great video! I’d love to see a video on pokemon rumble blast or the rumble series.
This game is the future of pokemon
Honestly every game should be like this
Legends Z-A takes place in Kalos (XY's region) not Unova
I watched maybe 60 seconds of this in different spots and you may have just convinced me to go back and play Arceus again.
Yes! Its the freshest game weve had. Even though its missing some features, it was a joy to play and explore
*Spoiler Alert**
Yes, it is. Best Pokémon game in the last 10 years… despite all that jank
Comfortably my favourite Pokemon game. Trying to complete an alpha and a shiny dex I found issues with the space time distortion mechanics, just standing there for upto 40 minutes while waiting for one to spawn in isn't too engaging. Also, I didn't mind the graphics, I know when I play a Pokemon game it isn't going to be the best visually. But personally, that's low down on my list of what I want from the game anyway.
You pretty much pointed out every detail of why I love Legends Arceus
Amazing video. I like Legend Arceus, especially for its content and how it handled trade evolution.
I get nostalgic for games that haven't released yet. It happened for Tears of the Kingdom.
Yeah, I actually have a lot of nostalgia for Tears of the Kingdom. It was the first new Zelda my fiancee and I played through together for the first time. we both had a copy and did different stuff, telling each other about stuff we found...it was awesome
I was also playing through gen 5 again because it’s such a good blend of elements.
A very strong, and obvious YES.
It made me feel the way I did when I first played Pokémon. It was new, fresh, it made me feel part of the world. It struck every right chord in my mind, to be considered arguably the best Pokémon game to date.
I love this game so much. It was a little rough around the edges but it was definitely a step in the right direction. I never got into any battles in those space-time distortions, I’d just find a space to hide or use ax smoke bomb.
I absolutley loved this game. I really hope we get a similar experience in Z-A
I love this video so much! I'm so excited for the ZA! I love how pretty much every reaction video about Legends ZA is all positive! Unlike that one poketuber with the red and gray wolf mascot that just loves to talk so much trash on Legends Arceus and now ZA
Everytime i start a new game i got retro here hyping up the exact games im playing w a review ty just the inspiration i need to give arceus a full playthrough
I have been grinding my old save on this game since the announcement on Pokemon day! Close to getting the shiny charm (then the real game starts)
I went into this game initially as someone who didn't experience Pokemon _games_ as a kid and only really had the experience of the anime and card game at the time. I'd eventually get into them after the release of Sword/Shield and decided to play catch up from that point on with what entries I could possibly try as I made my way to modern times.
BD and Legends Arceus were the first I actually had the chance to pre-order.
As someone who hasn't had a disappointing Pokemon experience aside from maybe trying HGSS (I just didn't like the music and wasn't a fan of most of the designs) and the original gen 3 titles (pacing was absolutely abysmal in Sapphire), and even found titles like BDSP, XY, USUM, and SWSH overhated.. Legends Arceus is my favorite in the franchise, second maybe only to Fire Red. It's not difficult to return to past gen games, but it'd be difficult to see several of the improvements not be in future titles (though I don't mind ScVi, myself, so far). It was my GOTY in 2022. I'd adore seeing Z-A as my GOTY in 2025 against all odds.
They have announced it will be released on the switch and (probably) the last one on it
Legends Arceus is my favorite Pokemon game. I wish they’d stick with this gameplay mechanics. ❤
PLA Surprised me at first with how well the game design was, then it proceeded to further impress me with the soundtrack and the unique gameplay. It's one of the very few pokemon games that I completed my pokedex and tried to 100% complete.
I also have a deep connection with PLA, when it was announced, I just remember being so excited for the future of the series, I have always wanted a Pokémon game like this, action based gameplay and set in the past. I remember midnight of launch day playing the game until like 3 in the morning and being absolutely blown away with everything it had to offer the music, scenery, gameplay loop, just perfection. This is by far my favorite Pokémon game I ever played (emerald and White 2 are close) but no game I’ve ever played hit the same way PLA has for me. Completed the pokedex and pretty much all the side content and done lots of shiny hunting prob have over 80 hours in the game because I just couldn’t put it down. I’m so happy game freak decided to keep the Legends series of games going because I can already tell Z-A is gonna be something special as well. Will prob end up doing a second playthrough next year before Z-A.
I feel like I was the only person who loved this game, finally a change up from the old gameplay
Legends Arceus is special to me for so many reasons. First of all because gen 4 is my favorite gen - Pokemon Pearl is the first Pokemon game that I really got into and have distinct memories of. I think I had played a little bit of one of the earlier GBA games but can barely remember it. On the other hand, Pokemon Pearl was my most played DS game ever. I remember playing with friends at after school care and hunting underground for fossils together, visiting bases, and even setting traps for each other. My original copy has over 200 hours on it, I also put a ton of hours into Platinum and I even got a copy of Diamond later on so I could play through it all again without deleting my original save.
On top of having a soft spot for Gen 4, this game came out right before I got my first big-girl job. Since I wasn’t working yet I was able to put a ton of hours into this game the first week or two that it was out. Yes I remember the visual quality being iffy, but every other aspect of the game was so good that I had to forgive it (although this is something they definitely need to work on for Legends Z-A)
This game got me excited to play it and I've not actually been interested in a pokemon game since diamond and pearl so hats off to it can't wait for ZA
Most fun I've had in a Pokemon game in the last 10 years.
It really is, love that game so much can shiny hunt on there for hours on end.
i haven’t played a pokémon game literally since crystal… this review might have convinced me to try this one before Z-A comes out.
Do it. It's not for everyone, and very different from normal pokemon games, but if it's your type of game it's unforgettable. I hadn't had so much fun playing pokemon since I was in elementary school. This game reignited my interest in the series. Highly recommended.
It’s the reason I bought my Switch. The only game aside from the battle with Cynthia in Diamond to give me an adrenaline rush.
The only pokemon game I've ever played is SoulSilver on my 2ds and I've been looking into this one to play to finally expand our of the one game I constantly play lol. I've seen a lot of good things about it, so I'm kind of hoping it's what I am actually look for as I play the game slowly rather than the grindy ways pokemon usually is played.
So far, I think it'll end up being worthwhile to buy and spend time on :D
hands down it was the best game ive played in a while. i had so much fun playing it as it was a refreshing pokemon experience
Yes, it is good. Looking forward to the new one.
I love legends arceus. Especially being able throw a poke ball in an open world space. It also where I found my shiny yanmega
Personally, I loved Scarlet and Violet. I played them before playing legend, and they are the most fun I’ve had since generation five. But I also have a lot of positive things to say about legends! I love the music, I agree that it is so peaceful. I really enjoy the catching mechanic, and the whole catching system, and filling out the Pokédex is so rewarding. The battling feels more like a demo, just because there aren’t that many battles, and every battle only has one or two Pokémon, but I do love the twist that they put on it
The one thing i feel missing is the status ailments. But all this game brings is so great ❤❤❤
all this game needed was a little more open world space in the zones, so that they had a little more exploration and wonder/replayability, and some lore akin to books or tablets or engravings throughout the main story about like spear pillar and the ancient race of people who inhabited there to fill out that open world a bit more. 8/10.
I put it in a similar category to the alternate universe Pokemon movies. It’s an experiment that isn’t for everyone but takes some much-needed risks.
I really do think switch 2 will make these games way better with the rumors and also hope that they have free ehcanments for older games like scarlet and violet
Pokémon Legends Arceus reinvigorated my love for the franchise. I’m so hyped for Legends Z-A
I really liked the web promo videos they did that spoofed TV shows. I wish they had done a MythBusters spoof around the stealth mechanics, though.
pla was the most immersed ive ever felt in a pokemon game
I’ve had the game for a year or so but I just finally started to pick it up, my 9th pokemon was a shiny shinx!!!🎉 first shiny ever too🎉
Pokémon legends was a pretty good game. Gamefreak is actually willing to experiment now because of it and it has a really cool premise of going back in time to see what the pokemon world was like before the modern era. It’s exactly what we needed
This is my favorite pokemon game since soul silver. I loved it.
This was the game I wanted to complete the dex in, but never did, so when Violet came out, I made it my goal and completed the base dex.
As someone who has been playing pokemon since gen 1 its prob my favorite pokemon game ive replayed it a few times and its still as good as the first its also the first game ive completed the pokedex on
I accidentally powerleveled my entire team to the 60's before even leaving the first area while completing the area's pokédex. I don't regret it.
Although the graphics are bad, I really adore the art style
This is the first and only Pokémon game I ever liked and wanted to play. Amazing game with an awesome open world. $60 will get you sooooo many hours if you want to fully complete the Pokédex
I loved Pokémon Arceus. It is a great entry.
Legends Arceus is a masterpiece 🙌🔥🔥🔥
Easily my favorite. I’ve played all of them and my god this one was absolutely amazing. It took me long to get a switch so this was the first Pokémon game I played on switch, jumped in blind and my god it was perfect. Played shield after and then pre ordered Scarlett, both don’t compare to Arceus. Hopefully the next Pokémon is more similar to arceus
There are many things they could update but my number one thing I want is voice acting it would help bring so much life to the world of pokemon like I said there others things but that's what I want most
I still haven't beaten it buttttt I was just more interested in multiplayer aspect of pokemon so I now I feel lucky to be bale to complete the story in due time right before the next comes. I think Arceus is a great game, just needs a little multiplayer
This was the game that made me lose myself in the world of pokemon since i was a kid
The hook for me is the scientific/history aspect of Arceus. Building the first ever Pokédex by studying the Pokémon gave useless interactions a true meaning and by making it influence shiny odds was brilliant as well. And freedom to run away from battle after getting what you want without hitting run and approving then waiting on a load of some amount of time. It’s just a terrific game. Can’t wait for the sequel of aoets
After I finished it I immediately cleared my data and restarted it. Have never done that for any other Pokemon or game in general
You dang right it is. The story is legit the best the franchise has had in the last 10 years Giratina and Volo is legit one of the toughest battles of the franchise
Pokémon legend arceus is peak pokemon. It was so good it brought me back to Pokemon after 12 years. Made me want to complete the Pokédex which I did and the story is so great. Love the game
Imo yes this game is good and a bit of fresh air for Pokemon as a whole, while it lacks some polish on it's own and needs some refinement, it really overhauls some core ideas that were drasticly needed for a long time, it's the most fun I've had with a pokemon game since gen 2, now with Legends Z announced I'm glad to see this will be a recurring series now
I haven’t actually played Pokémon Arceus yet but after watching this video I think I will give it a try 👍🏼😊
You have to do a review of the greatest game ever made, The Legend of Dragoon!
I know you only mentioned it in the beginning but they used the switch logo when advertising Legends A-Z so even if it is on the supposed "Switch 2" it will probably be cross gen so it won't be using it to its fullest extent.
I wish they just used this kind of battle/catching system in S/V.
Yes they are that good. Actual S tier deserved.
LOVED the Tanjiro fit man, I noticed that right away
Good eye ;)
My favorite Pokémon game since Gen 5. Adored PLA.
I still haven't played Arceus. I need to get to this.
