Same for me.. This was the first song that I heard from Linkin Park around the age of 10 and I loved it. Then a few years later I heard and saw a music video for Catalyst in a TV promoting their new album A Thousand Suns. I loved this song as well and once I realized this is the same band that did In The End, I was instantly sold. I must've been 13 by then and that was the point in time when I discovered UA-cam, music and bands. Linkin Park's songs were of course played the most and slowly over time I discovered more and more of their music, falling in love with all the albums in a different way. I felt connected to the songs and the emotions put into them even before I could understand the meaning behind the lyrics. Fast forward to 2017 I know all the songs, all the albums, have watched hundreds of live shows, behind the scenes, extras on UA-cam and I'm buying a ticket to their concert in Prague. I was 18 years old by then and this was to be the first ever concert in my life. Just three days before the show I decided to sell my ticket and instead of the concert focus on my matriculation exam that was due next week. Once I sold my ticket I felt so bad I still have that feeling today and when I read the news about Chester passing away just one month after that I was completely destroyed. I cried for hours locked up in my room. I skipped school for like 3 days cause I was just feeling like I wanna die and didn't wanna see or talk to anyone. I've been depressed ever since then and still feel the same I felt when I found out about Chester's death. It might sound weird to someone but I felt like Chester was my best friend that got me through doubt and pain, suffering and dark times in my life. And when he was gone I felt completely alone, cold, sad and pointless. These feelings still keep up with me today, after almost 7 years yet when I hear Chester's voice it calms me down, and in a way, makes me happy to be alive.
This was my first song introduction to Linkin Park back when I was growing up and I loved Linkin Park ever since. R.I.P. Chester. This song still holds up for many years to come.
Think for most of my generation in West Europe, this song + videoclip was our first LP introduction. Shaped many lives, i know it did for me. One of my very first encounters with heavier music as a very young teen.

Also they did a mashup album in 2004 with Jay-Z with songs like "Numb/Encore" , Dirt off your Shoulder/Lying from you or Points of Authority/99Problems/One step Closer.
This is THE song I remember driving around with friends singing it at the top of our lungs…I know all the lyrics mo matter how longs it’s been since I listened to it. Also- You’re weren’t lying when u said “they don’t know what they’re doing these days…” thats why its so awesome that your generation is discovering this music bc it truly was an iconic time in music. ❤
