    I remember when I was a kid when all trains were diverted from Figline Valdarno to Olmo through Arezzo. That was in 1987 when I first travelled from Padua to Rome Termini. Intercity trains used to fly by Arezzo!

      Yes, that time the DD Firenze-Roma wasn't yet completed, and this was the last section to be opened.

    Complimenti vivissimi,ottimo viaggio,mai fatta perché nel 1078 facevo spesso la tratta Milano/Roma( anno di militare )e si faceva la tratta costiera ,molto suggestiva .Bravo, Bravo ,Bravo .

    The remote alert showing the G/V aspect (yellow on green) flashing alternately and the "Rappel" (pronounced as in France) applied to the next 1st category signal showing the R/V aspect (red on green) were conceived precisely in view of the activation of the direct railway Florence - Rome. They have since spread to virtually the entire national rail network, with regulatory provisions that sometimes make drivers' eyes pop.

    Purtroppo la LL è ridotta veramente male, nella maggior parte delle ex stazioni, sono stati tolti i binari per le precedenze, per lunghi tratti si percorre alla velocità max di 105 Km/h circa, ciò dimostra perché ogni volta che c’è un intoppo sulla DD (cosa che purtroppo ultimamente sta succedendo piuttosto spesso) e quindi le Frecce la devono percorrere, accumulano ore di ritardo e da quello che si vede, nulla fa sperare in prossimi miglioramenti. Questa è la conseguenza di una “politica” miope nella programmazione degli interventi per migliorare la rete ferroviaria.

      Per il discorso della velocità massima non si può far molto e se sei del mestiere lo sai. Massimo si potrebbe alzare di qualche decina di chilometri ma ciò corrisponde ad avere delle grosse responsabilità; morali e penali, in caso di incidente o altro che nessuno vuole prendersi - giustamente - visti gli ultimi avvenimenti successi.
      Per ciò che riguarda l'inadeguatezza delle varie località di servizio sono d'accordo, pur troppo il gestore è costretto a lavorare "al risparmio" e non sembra ma dare mantenimento ai deviatoi, segnali e altro corrisponde a un costo non indifferente, senza parlare del costo-tempo di dover gestire una stazione abilitata ai vari transiti.

      La tratta Arezzo Orvieto della LL è più scorrevole e ha il limite a 150 km/h la tratta ridotta male è la tratta Orvieto Roma e il limite massimo di 105 110 km/h comincia prima della stazione di Allerona.

      In effetti la DD ha quasi 50 anni (la tratta Roma - Chiusi Sud) e ha urgente bisogno di un rinnovo non solo del segnalamento ma anche di interventi sulle OOCC. La galleria di Orte so che aveva avuto in passato un problema di una faglia acquifera che aveva creato un piccolo dissesto sul piedritto forzando la deviazione di tutto il traffico nord sud sullo scalo di Orte.

    The UK's railways get a lot of flack from posters on these channels, but it's worth noting the details of this (extremely beautiful) journey in Italy. This is an express train - albeit not the fastest - between two of Italy's largest and most important cities; moreover two that are reasonably close together. Firstly, in spite of using the "high-speed line", the train nonetheless spends much of the journey doing less than 60 mph, including lengthy sections traversing the suburbs at each end. Secondly, the train rarely if ever exceeds 125mph, the standard top speed for most UK mainlines. Indeed the average speed of this journey was roughly 70 mph, which compares unfavorably with the 80 mph average speed of a journey between London and Liverpool, itself one of the slower intercity journeys in the UK. But the Italian trains are undoubtedly more comfortable and offer a better travelling experience.

      In fact, this train has to pass through Arezzo. Therefore it uses only short stretches of HSL and long stretches of old line. Moreover the rolling stock of this train cannot exceed 200 Km/h (i.e. 125 mph)

    Its kinda fascinating how Italy managed to create a competent rail system without anyone noticing...
    When I was traveling around the county in my youth, no train would go even half that fast, half of the time they wouldn't even make it to the station xD

    Frecciarossa 1000 is the commercial name of the high-speed electric train that is part of the V300 Zefiro project. It is classified as ETR 400.

      Tutte le semipilota sono state equipaggiate con il sistema ETCS. Possono quindi percorrere il tratto iniziale della direttissima (in attesa dell’estensione del sistema anche da Orte a Settebagni)

    Scusate... ma gli IC percorrono sempre la linea lenta tra orte ed arezzo o è stato un caso ? io ho sempre saputo che percorressero la direttissima entrandone ed uscendone co gli appositi svincoli

      Sempre, di notte qualcuno esce e rientra dagli svincoli, per esempio l'ICN 797 e il 798 ma questo perché a quell'ora i treni AV non circolano e quindi non ingombri niente con le varie deviate, discorso diverso di giorno dove il traffico sulla D.D. è abbastanza elevato. Se dovessero farle anche di giorni rallenterebbero inutilmente tutto il traffico.

      Venti anni fa gli Intercity da Orte a Firenze entrarono e uscirono dalla Direttissima con tempi di percorrenza da Orte a Firenze in meno di due ore.

    I tratti più tortuosi e lenti della vecchia linea storica, Firenze- Arezzo e Orte - Roma, sono stati abbandonati da tutti i treni a lunga distanza e riservati al solo servizio locale.

    Interconnections between DD (Direttissima) and LL (Linea Lenta): the junctions located along the DD have their names preceded by 1º (first) while the junctions located along the LL have their names preceded by 2º (second). For example: 1st Bivio Valdarno Nord the one along the DD and 2nd Bivio Valdarno Nord the one along the LL. And so on up to Settebagni.

      @@RailRelaxation Thank you so much. There are some interconnections between DD and LL, where along the LL there is no junction, but a station or a former station. For example, the Chiusi Nord Interconnection, the Chiusi Sud Interconnection, the Orte Sud Interconnection. In Orte, the Interconnection towards the Direttissima begins at the Orte railway station. Therefore in the aforementioned interconnections we do not meet a crossroads called 2nd Crossroads etc. etc.

      Peculiarity within the particularity: the Chiusi Nord Interconnection does not use a railway station located along the LL, but a station (currently closed to passenger services) located along another railway. To be precise, the Chiusi Nord interconnection uses the former railway station called MONTALLESE, located along the magnificent Chiusi - Siena - Empoli railway. Although almost all of it is a single non-electrified track, the section between Chiusi and Montallese was doubled and electrified precisely to be used for the purposes of interconnection with the DD

    Great video! But may I make two corrections? 2:31:27 ETR 460 is labeled "Frecciargento" at Trenitalia (not "Frecciarossa"). 2:33:18: It is a class 675 (not 575) Italo train.

    Sem in tja rad pogledam tudi kako vožnjo vlaka, ki vozi hitreje, ker imajo dosti ravnine.
    Še posebej atraktivno je, da gre skozi tunel s 199 km/h, pri čemer ni nič videti, razen nasproti vozečega vlaka, ko se pojavi. Videti sicer je, da so luči prižgane, a jaz ne vidim, da bi bila proga kakorkoli osvetljena.
    Sin je bil letos poleti s punco v Firencah, kamor se je z vlaki odpeljal iz Trsta.
    Dvakrat sta prestopila. Menda je vlak gnal tudi 260 km/h. Krenila sta iz Trsta 9:15, okoli 15h pa sta bila z vsemi čakanji med prestopi že v Firencah na kraju nastanitve.
    Drugi del poti sem gledal na 2x hitrost. Kot bi vozil 400 km/h.
    Zanima me, ali tudi slovenski strojevodje vozijo na hitrih progah v Italiji.
    Morajo opraviti kak dodaten zdravstveni pregled in usposabljanje?
    Oboje ali samo usposabljanje?

      @igorurekar1711 Slovenski strojevodje ne morejo voziti v tujini. Za vožnjo v tujini morajo opraviti izpit iz jezika, poznavanja proge, poznavanja specifičnih lokomotiv...in verjetno še kaj. Strojevodje so mi povedali, da je zelo težko.

      @@RailRelaxation Najlepša hvala za informacije. Slutil sem, da je tako. Sicer pa sem pregledoval tudi strojevodje kot psiholog (pri 65 letih sem upokojen že celo 1 leto) in menim, da so dovolj sposobni in odgovorni ljudje.
      Tako da je verjetno marsikaj povezano zgolj z odpori v zahodnih deželicah, ki rade mlatijo propagando o svobodnem pretoku ljudi, storitev in blaga. Ampak to mislijo le v eni smeri in sicer kako bi veliki kapitalsko pojedli male - kakor je bilo vedno, ampak vse bolj slutim, da ne bo tako tudi v prihodnosti.
      Menda Čehi že prevzemajo naš tovorni železniški promet, kot se je nekdo pridušal v enem izmed prispevkov, naj pa ne bi nič vlagali v modernizacijo prog. Vendar ne bi bilo slabo, če bi Vzhodne in manjše dežele Evrope stopile skupaj, da ne bi bile lahek plen 4 velikih držav EU, ki pa imajo manj kot 20% prebivalstva. To je 440 milijonov (odkar je Velika Britanija izstopila iz EU).
      Kakor drevo živi od majhnih koreninic in od listov na vrhu najtanjših vejic, ki so sposobne imeti liste, tako bo nekoč tudi v EU. Veliki si še vedno tolmačijo, da se da živeti od plenjenja.
      Kakor je človeška ribica odvisna od iznajdljivosti drobnih živalic in rastlin v podzemnem svetu, ki poskrbe za to, da lahko doseže starost 100 in več let, ker jo hranijo in ji čistijo vodo, tako velja tudi za ljudi, da za njih skrbi podzemni svet in dna površinskih voda, ki hranijo ribe in skupaj z njimi čistijo vodo, iz katere smo v 80% tudi ljudje.
      Vse bo enkrat prišlo na svoje...
      Še pred dvemi leti nisem imel niti malo časa in nisem niti slutil, da mi bo gledanje posnetkov vožnje vlaka na progi skozi divjino v tak užitek. Nekateri se sproščajo celo ob zvokih elektrodizel lokomotive. Gledal sem več prispevkov o tem, kako deluje taka lokomotiva in menda še vedno na določeno mersko enoto tovora porabi najmanj energije, nisem si zapomnil podrobnosti, me je pa to kot laika močno pozitivno pretreslo. Nisem pristaš električnih vozil.
      Odgovor na prometno gnečo v velikih mestih je v posodobitvi železniškega potniškega prometa.
      Da se je železniški potniški promet zmanjšal, je kriv zgolj avtomobilski promet, ki so ga forsirali v šestdesetih letih prejšnjega stoletja in ukinili mnoge potniške relacije na železnici (navajam iz knjige zgodovinarja Tonyja Judta).
      V urbanih središčih je cestni promet sam sebe prignal v slepo ulico zaradi težav s parkingom in gnečo.
      Pešačenje, navadno kolo, skiro, električno kolo, čelada in obleka za dež so odgovor na tisti prvi in zadnji kilometer poti (do službe in nazaj) ki ga vlak ne zmore.
      Za starejše ljudi in veseljake, kadar niso čisto trezni pa so taksiji,
      Tovornjaki in avtobusi na plin pa za razvoz tovora z železnic do ciljne lokacije.
      Že če bi samo to rešili, bi naredili več kot z vsiljevanjem davka na tvorbo ogljikovega dioksida.
      Električna vozila imajo zaenkrat velik problem z litijevimi baterijami, ki jih skorajda ni mogoče pogasiti, če se vnamejo.
      Električni vlak, kolikokrat se je že vžgal? Manjkrat kot je posnetkov samovžigov električnih avtov samo v enem tednu na YT.

      If you refer to tracks, they are painted white in order to reflect sun light during summer, reducing iron dilatation.
