The railway is being fully electrified and it will receive ETCS L2 signalling in the following years which will hopefully bring it into the modern age considering it suffered harsh service cuts in the 2000s and early 2010s, this also means that the D445 diesel locomotive, operating in Italy since 1975 will see its final days of revenue service also because of other electrification projects on other lines/ replacement with DMUs and BMUs, all of which will end diesel locomotive passenger operations in Italy excluding heritage trains. As for the video great one as always, one of the only who post this kind of content with raw sounds and useful information
@gulagkid799 thank you very much for your kind comment. I am honoured. As for the sound, I am working to improve it every time. Thanks for rich information.
Is this supposed to be good news? In addition to eliminating diesel locomotives, we are also eliminating the train driver, with AI efficiency will tend to infinity, there will be no holidays and sickness and above all no salary! It's a pity that shots like these will no longer be possible, I doubt that a robot can let someone into the driving cab, as long as the driving cabs still exist.
@@nasinopuzzolente5396 ETCS L2 only supports GoA2 level of automation meaning the driver is still present albeit only for opening/closing doors and handling emergency situations. So far no mainline railway has full GoA4 levels of automation, which is currently only applied to metros where full isolation of the right of way is guaranteed, and even then filming is atcually made easier since there is usually no driving cab on these trains so any passanger can do it. And in this channel's case mounting the camera outside of the train wouldn't require anymore authorization than right now.

@RailRelaxation: Gorgeous cab-ride video as always! It's good to hear one of your more successful microphones you're testing - the sound is quite good - not too much wind noise. The track is is very good condition for the most part, so not much sound from traversing switches, etc. At least this brave microphone didn't die from the cold, the way your other one did in Croatia earlier this winter! Also, until the train continued onward toward Crotone after the completed electrification ended at Sibari, was I sure we were riding on a diesel-powered train - that is how quiet this locomotive is!

@haraldsachwitz7515 you are welcome. I appreciate your comment. Yes, I filmed until Reggio di Calabria....the rest of the journey will be presented in the next video.
I really like your videos very much and keep up the great job. The geographic details, the locomotive denominations and speed are great add ins. One suggestion: is not clear the colors of the route. In theory red is supposed to be sluggish and green full throttle, such as in Google Maps or Waze, perhaps you should revert this color pattern because red being fast is hard to come by. The rest is excellent!!!
Obrigada
thank you for an amazing video with beautiful landscape! In the future can you consider filming Milano Centrale to Venice Santa Lucia? I travelled many times along the line and it's beautiful
@@RailRelaxation Certainly, and I have to tell the truth, I miss that stretch of railroad, but even more I miss traveling by train because I enjoy it so much.
Hey, thanks for the wonderful Drive. What are your next Plans ? Maybe Bari-Bologna or Genova-Ventimiglia or Bologna-Roma via the old track (no high speed) Kind regards
A very interesting line. Can anybody familiar with the line tell me, why did they (apparently recently) isolate or completely eliminate sidings at so many minor stations? Is the line used so lightly (with no freight trains whatsoever), that they don't need many passing loops?
To Mr. Danni reply add that parcel and single wagon freight service has been removed from Italian network several years ago, and thus many station lost the sidings used to park freight wagons. Remove all the shuttle freight service and you remove the need of a lot of sidings for crossing or giving way to faster trains. And about the traffic: the train in the cover picture is an InterCity, possibly a 2ns class only "Intercity Sun". 2 carriages are enough...
@@GianUbertoLauri Yes I forgot about manifest traffic. Just to remember that the "Jonica" used to manage also a lot of Interfrigo traffic and, around the end of the 90s, some beet traffic. About this I've found some pics but I don't remember the right years.
I will watch the video lstep by step. At minute 22, you saw a red light start, which is a rarity in railway videos. I have read a few comments, I want to say that the Ionian line is well maintained, the problem is that it is not very popular because it does not serve populous centres - tradotto : Vedrò il video poco alla volta.
🤔 Boh ?
Did you plan eventually or did you film also the Tirrenic Line from Salerno to Reggio Calabria? I travel along that line every summer to go to Sicily. It would be nice if you filmed it! I'll wait for it
There's something wrong in video compression: quality under 1080 p is very very low, but the video is too huge to see at 1080p with 20 Mb ADSL connection. Other video at 1080 p run smooth and there's not so huge downgrade in quality at lower resolutions. At 720p seems to see 360p video typical quality...
@d1234as I am sorry to hear that you have difficulties watching the video. It is huge because of the 4K quality and 60fps. I am not sure how it is with the UA-cam compression. I hope you will manage to watch it in better resolution.
Ok, it was recorded at 4k, but the problem is lower resolution: other 4k videos run smooth without lag at 1080p and without so huge quality downgrade (on 1080p screen).
Itinerario molto bello, paesaggio impressionante.

@k0k0m02008 Thank you very much! I will think about your suggestion.
@mauriziovicenzoni2498 Grazie mille
So nice videos
@pranowobaris94 Thanks.
@@RailRelaxation very good

Hello from Japan!

Non è un treno regionale ma IC..

@martinsobrerieles2081 thank you.
@giuseppecare9488 yes there is. Next video.
@@RailRelaxation thanks, great work

@user-np7se4cs6t Thanks.
Obrigada
@missvagalume Obrigado pelo seu comentário. Esta linha ainda não está totalmente eletrificada. Locomotiva é de alimentação de combustível.
@@RailRelaxation obrigada
thank you for an amazing video with beautiful landscape! In the future can you consider filming Milano Centrale to Venice Santa Lucia? I travelled many times along the line and it's beautiful
@DeathMagnetic666Kirk thank you for the suggestion. I have this line on my mind for quite a long time. Will definitely try to film it.
@raphaeldelannoy4805 yes. There are already some ongoing works on the line.
@vincenzodangelo127 nice, so you know the line well.

@sandrototti8356 Thanks for the ideas! I will consider them. have some more videos from Italy and for sure, I will go back there soon. Kind regards.
Can anyone tell me why the train proceeded through a red signal at thee 26km?
@hishamw6755 I guess that the driver had special instructions.
My same question!!
Wonderful landscape, great video….but between Metaponto and Sibari, there are two IC-Train-pairs, diesel-hauled, WTF?
A very interesting line. Can anybody familiar with the line tell me, why did they (apparently recently) isolate or completely eliminate sidings at so many minor stations? Is the line used so lightly (with no freight trains whatsoever), that they don't need many passing loops?
That's right. It's also for cutting maintenance costs.
2 carriages are enough...
confirmed Intercity Sun, 2 cars, 2nd class only.
@@GianUbertoLauri For some time they have three cars, the third car is a UIC Z for disabled people (still second class).
@@GianUbertoLauri Yes I forgot about manifest traffic. Just to remember that the "Jonica" used to manage also a lot of Interfrigo traffic and, around the end of the 90s, some beet traffic. About this I've found some pics but I don't remember the right years.
39:39 Will you one day be able to make a video of that route?
@LUIG02 I would definitely love to do it. It looks very interesting.
@alessandrolutri5926 Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it.
Which line from Naples includes Balvano, scene of the horrific 1944 non crash disaster where stuck engines in a tunnel gassed all the passengers?
@duncancurtis5108 This horrific disaster happened on the train from Naples heading to Potenza, on the Battipaglia-Metaponto railway.
Cheers. Is it still active today? Locals say the Ricigliano tunnel is haunted.
@@duncancurtis5108 sorry, I do not know if it is still active.
Boa tarde!!!
🤔 Boh ?
Did you plan eventually or did you film also the Tirrenic Line from Salerno to Reggio Calabria? I travel along that line every summer to go to Sicily. It would be nice if you filmed it! I'll wait for it
@stefanomaggio-therailwaypr6184 during this journey I just have a part of it. I will definitely go back there to film it again.
🎉 spettacolo
@frecciajonica7500 grazie.

@manfredstuiber9809 there is not too much traffic on the line, at least during the winter. Sorry, I can answer your question about he signaling.
