In HSM 2, the song You Are The Music In Me also has vocal dubs for Vanessa. But she does sing most of it. At least Zac sang in all of HSM 2.
For Rizzo: Songs in musicals are non-diegetic in that the characters don't hear the music. The songs are used to express the feelings and/or emotion of the character, or they give exposition (greek chorus) or plot like a disney villain song. The songs are used to highlight the important part of the musical. Although sometimes the songs can diegetic in which the characters do hear the songs like soaring and flying.
Also when my high school did Big Fish the musical we had two casts. One night the Edward Bloom was sick and couldn't sing so the other Edward ended up preforming that night but his cousin was playing Sandra Edward's wife. And they did have to kiss eachother.

My theatre camp put on a production of HSM when I was younger. I played the Cello Skater Kid. At the end of that summer, I got an award for "being the only one to say OH in We're All in This Together." Everyone else would often forget to sing the background words like "yeah" and "oh" and there was a time where I was the ONLY ONE to say OH and it was so embarrassing but also hilarious bc it's a huge musical number so just a single lonely dude from the back yelling OH killed everyone.

Benji is me everytime I watch a musical. Only issue is I would annoy the house so I just end up singing in my head. I would love to just sing through a whole musical like Mamma Mia because I know that one by heart.

Zac Efron only sings some parts of some songs, because Drew Seeley was supposed to be Troy and recorded the songs. God I love fun facts that I should not have retained for this many years. I'm loving this already, Rizzo annoyed at Benji for singing along to the literal first song 😂😂
I wonder why the producers decided to change Troy’s role to Zac Efron?
@@linabueno9124 I think there may have been scheduling conflicts or something? Not fully sure what prompted the switch, but I do believe that when they did the HSM tour, Drew Seeley did play the role of Troy for it, as far as I recall.
I heard that Drew sang because Zac didn’t have the singing range yet, he had to train hard to do the singing in HSM2. That’s why Drew toured - because he was the one with the singing range at that point.
@@lenkajf7816I felt bad for Drew, I heard a lot of people were disappointed he was the one on tour and not Zac. But he was the voice so it made more sense. I always thought Drew was better looking too but I think he looked too old to play a high school character.
The 10 year age gap between him and Selena Gomez in Another Cinderella Story was kind of odd. I was like “am I supposed to believe this guy is a 17 year old high school student? I don’t but he is cute.”
Also Drew had songs on several DCOM soundtracks. HSM, Jump In, and Cheetah Girls 2 are what come to mind.
I can relate to Benji! When I was a kid I HATED GABRIELLA'S solo songs but the older I got, the more I started to love them.
Gotta Go My Own Way is my fave out of the 3 solo songs. But if I have to choose my favorite song out of the 3 movies is a toss up betwwen All For One and Can I Have This Dance.

When re-watching these movies with a friend I commented "You know you've grown up (and realized you're queer) when your main focus in these movies shifts from Troy Bolton to Ryan Evans as the best character." and honestly that pretty much sums me up 😂

High School Musical was one of my favorite movie series as a kid. This was peak Disney in the 2000s and Kenny Ortega was making hit after hit. I'm glad I'm rewatching this series with ya'll again.

The first song is diagetic but then later songs are non-diagetic. The mixture is one of the key elements that got so many kids invested, in my opinion. It sweeps you into the world.

The movie was filmed as if it were a stage play. So it makes more sense when Sharpay doesn’t see Gabriella in the bathroom and the “curtain” comes up before the ending basketball game scene, etc…

My high school was possibly the first one to get the rights to the stage play of HMS in fall ‘06… my favorite part was that we added mini video interviews during intermission, which included someone being like “how do they all know the words to these songs? When is rehearsal??”

I used to play basketball. Some coaches be like that. My dad is also a basketball coach, and on occasion he was my coach. But like he didn't enforce training at home, but sometimes over the summer he brought us down to a stadium to train.
I don’t think I could’ve dealt with my dad as my coach in HS lol
Me and my cousins wondered why Zac didn’t sing in HSM because before HSM2 we had both seen Zac in Hairspray where he did his own vocals in that movie
everyone loves troy and gabriella, but literally no one talks about chad and taylor. she changed him for the better. he literally proved he would do anything for her, and i haven’t seen them break up and get back together like 4 times. plus the actors have so much chemistry on and off camera. (real life they are best friends and see each other so much still). the reason they couldn’t show anything more than holding hands/arms or hugging with them is because at the time corbin was a minor when their characters started dating and monique was legally an adult so they legally couldn’t do anything more with it but they recently made a movie together in 2021 where they play each other’s love interest again and they gave the chad and taylor shippers something we’ve been wanting for forever.
Watching someone who’s not musically inclined think siblings dancing is sexual is funny lol
