When I was 17 my Brother worked a large Dodge dealership in Albany, N.Y. I remember going there and drooling over a 4x4 Warlock! They had Lil Red Expresses and Top hands too! They also had brand new Custom Vans that were outsourced customs with the Porthole windows, custom interior and graphic paint jobs. I ended up getting a 77' Orange Macho 4x4 with a 440 V8 that would beat 350 Camaros and Novas! THAT was one hell of a Fun truck. Wish i still had it!
Oh, wow! Back c. 1978 I was walking down the street in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn one night, and saw this cool yellow 4x4 Dodge stepside. I thought it was so cool at the time (I was 16)...never saw another one like it, in real life or elsewhere. Then I see the thumbnail of this video! So nearly 50 years later, I now know what it was (Thought it was just a Dodge PU that the owner had customized). 4x4's were rare at that time- 'specially in NYC..Who'd have thunk I'd see such a rare vehicle?

Excellent video as always Greenhawk. So sorry to hear about your ride but am happy that you are okay. I love American cars also and I proudly own a Q5. The quality and performance are so good. Take care and good luck finding a new ride.
As a Dodge/Plymouth guy, I've seen some odd trim & option packages on car & truck lines. Most people speak of the Lil Red Express trucks, but what about it's low production "California only" Midnight express truck. Let's talk about the "Spirt of '76" edition trucks. How about the "Rod Hall or Walker Evans" edition trucks. There are a bunch of special trucks that Dodge trucks that go all the way back into the late '40's, like the "Spring Special" editions. Cool video BTW 👍
Wild graphics were the thing back then for American manufacturers, then came celebrity and company endorsements as "Special Editions". Most of them offered nothing but appearances you couldn't get as a RPO. Dodge trucks were some of the wildest looking ones with AMC being right there with them. The 'van craze' got us some more and even the Pinto and Gremlin got into the game. It all started with the 'performance stripes' on muscle cars back in the 60's and continues (thankfully more subdued) with muscle cars today. Certain ones are rare and valuable to collectors, but they weren't seen that way back then so there aren't many original survivors now.
I had a 2004 grand Cherokee “Columbia edition” it had Columbia badging on the outside. Black with grey cladding Columbia two tone stitched seats and the high output 4.7 V8. Got 11 mpg if I was lucky and was one of my least favorite cars I’ve owned over the years. Was glad to see it go.
I hope everything goes your way in the future purchase & maybe something American lol. I've always had a soft spot for the 70's early 80's Dodge Pick ups myself so seeing this way good. Cheers fr: Canada
The tent package for the Plymouth Arrow is actually a good idea. I used to put mosquito netting over my Mustang II hatchback and camp out. Fold down rear seats made plenty of room for me and my girlfriend to sleep.
Well, I had no idea about the car accident or any of these special editions from Dodge. I hate to hear about the demise of your Audi. That’s unfortunate but I’m glad you’re alright. Cars are replaceable but it still feels like the loss of a loved one sometimes. To car people anyway lol. Great video, as always!
Dodge also made a Dart Sport "Hang 10" edition in the 70s, which came with a unique interior and graphics package and a fold down rear seat to accommodate a surf board.
Omg Avenger. I had to work on a few of these. The worst was the rt. Engine would stall and refuse to start again until IT felt like it. Could be 5 minutes could be 5 days. Every single avenue to fix that was taken short of replacing the ECU which is what I recommended from the start. Worth mentioning is the fact that to change rear pads you HAD to remove brake line from caliper. It was almost touching the caliper bolt directly behind it. And the starter. Chrysler decided to wrap the starter in an octopus like mount that made itbso you couldn't even see the starter inside it. What a nightmare. I quadruple the repair guide estimates now to avoid having to fix them. 3.6l is just too much engine for that body. It also has the battery in the fender genuis

Sometime in the 70s, Dodge Dart had a Western Special packge. I saw one once years ago while in Las Vegas. I wonder if that was a factory or dealer installed package.
I really like, and miss those graphics packages. Another cool Plymouth arrow was the Fire Arrow. You could get the bigger 2.6L engine which was quite a bump over the smaller engines. I had a 78 arrow GS. Why oh why cant we have unique, stylish, colorful vehicles like these today?
Back in 87, a buddys dad bought a new turbo coupe. So there we were doing 5500 rpm in top gear for about 15mins ,and up ahead we spot this white little blip. We got xlose enough to see it was a fire arrow, but never reeled him in as we had an exit we were geteing off at. He hadda be doing 120+, we were shocked.
BRO- now you can go to a Ford Dealer and get yourself a very good condition Ford Fusion LOADED!! I am ALSO shocked you had an import AND an SUV, I thought a domestic sedan!! LONG time subscriber here...
I actually clicked on this because of the thumbnail. I just saw one of the "top hand" edition pick ups for sale on marketplace. Not in great shape, but cheap,I didn't have any idea what it actually was.
OK, I like Don Knotts and all, but I never would’ve thought of him as a vision of masculinity boy times have changed. Don Knotts the celebrity sponsor for Dodge trucks crazy. 1978 there were only two 440 Top hands released, one was a fleetside and the other was a stepside. I have the Stepside truck, my Uncle Rob was the original owner.
As longtime Chrysler Tech I would have to say that the 318/360 (5.2/5.9) were probably even more bulletproof than the 4.0l.... we aren't talking about chevy or ford small blocks here. The 4.0l was a bad oil leaker, constant exhaust manifold problems, broken pistons. Bad blow-by and internally noisy with higher mileage. That is the short list.
I had one. We all would guess what the defiant parts were originally off of. Can't believe it was a factory. The gas tank stuck out of the side of the bed tho. Only 200 made oh my.
Whose Dodge pickup is that at the end, showing POV driving? It's nearly identical to my grandfather's magnificent minty fresh garage kept 1990 D350 LE that was totaled around 2013... I'd give anything for that truck back... Metallic gray paint with tasteful gray pinstripes, longbed single-cab with dually wheels and towing package, thick chrome tubular grill guard, chromed diamond plate running boards, rear bumper and toolbox, and the exact interior as shown-- Even down to the chrome visors on the outside of the doors. Only his wasn't a 4WD and didn't have that strange grill on the top of the passenger side dash. (what is it for?) Seeing that POV was surreal for me as I drove that truck all throughout high school and a bit later, it was essentially mine when a friend of his wanted to drive it and was t-boned hard on the passenger side by an Expedition with a grill guard.... It was folded pretty badly...

Sometime in the 70s, Dodge Dart had a Western Special packge. I saw one once years ago while in Las Vegas. I wonder if that was a factory or dealer installed package.
There was also the Gold Duster and the Duster Twister.
Owned an '85 and '89 Ramcharger. Wish I had either one back
I really like, and miss those graphics packages.
He hadda be doing 120+, we were shocked.
the tent on the car was crazy
BRO- now you can go to a Ford Dealer and get yourself a very good condition Ford Fusion LOADED!! I am ALSO shocked you had an import AND an SUV, I thought a domestic sedan!! LONG time subscriber here...
What’s up man! I think I want to get a manual of some sort. I’ll be sure to update everyone with what I get😂
@@GreenHawkDrive You would LOVE it if you test drove a Chrysler 300, incredibly SMOOTH car and surprisingly great handling!
@@TheSpritz0 I can Almost Guarantee you that insurance in ChicagoLand's gonna be High on the sporty Chrysler products. Even the older ones.
@ My brother has the V6 model it is all you need very comfortable!
I actually clicked on this because of the thumbnail. I just saw one of the "top hand" edition pick ups for sale on marketplace. Not in great shape, but cheap,I didn't have any idea what it actually was.
I believe the Plymouth Arrow was Also offered with a optional package called the fire arrow
Audi is a good carbrand and i should definitevly buy one if i needed a car.
regards from Sweden.
The top hand was awesome looking, looks like gmc desert fox.
Looks like a lot of the aero jet decals mimicked military jets, "no step", "fuel" and "hot exhaust" are even standard on todays military jets.
OK, I like Don Knotts and all, but I never would’ve thought of him as a vision of masculinity boy times have changed. Don Knotts the celebrity sponsor for Dodge trucks crazy. Now Andy on the other hand, Andy was a vision of masculinity. He probably cost too much lol or maybe he was a Ford man a Chevy man who am I kidding.
Sorry to hear about your loss that was a nice Audi. I suggest you go and get yourself a 2010 or 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, grand marquis or town car that can be your daily and then you can go and buy other fun things that break down, for you to you know obsess over and stare at lovingly
Knotts, John Ritter, Leslie Nielsen. All Effing LEGENDS.😎😎😎Especially Nielsen. He Passed 14 years this month, actually. "Just wanna tell you both, Good Luck! We're all Counting on you!!".😅😅 "Airplane (1980)".
Be careful out there. Hardly anyone can drive worth a damn.
Likewise
In ChicagoLand it's alotta no valid license &/or no insurance or they're driving a "hot" (stolen) car😮, etc. Despite cameras everywhere, Hit & Runs are sadly Not a Chicago PD priority.😢🕵️♂️🕵️♀️
My first car was a 78 dodge colt 2 door
Dman Q7 TDI... Its a cousin of my own 2011 Cayenne. Good car.
My uncle had that Trailduster in the mid 80's, the tint was purple, though.
Pretty hideous looking, tbh 😂
1978 there were only two 440 Top hands released, one was a fleetside and the other was a stepside. I have the Stepside truck, my Uncle Rob was the original owner.
Impressive
Dodge offered in the late 60s early 70s trucks a package known as the white hat special
I have a 1978 dodge power wagon macho edition in red just like the one pictured but not in that condition. Wish it was. You forgot the convertible Dakota's, rod halls, lil reds, midnight express, or the Dakota lil red express
There was only 30 7/up Mustangs ? Gee,,,now I wish I bought that one I seen 15 years ago here in Ontario Canada.
