I'm glad you mentioned the Houndstooth edition of the Mercury Cougars because I actually saw one in person at an auto repair and detailing shop in town and couldn't believe it! They did the top and the interior so it was really something else! I didn't know Mercury offered it back in the day and thought the new owner just wanted to "pimp it up" a bit! Haha! I actually rented a 1990 Cougar for a week to do some road trips and loved it! Lots of power, fun to drive, great sound system and because it looked like someone's parents' car I could go speeding down Highway 1 and not be bothered!

I think the 60's Cougars were cooler than the Mustangs personally. My first car was a Mercury. Nothing cool at all, it was just a Ford Escort with a Mercury badge (Lynx) and that is one of the reasons these brands eventually died; they weren't anything more than rebadged, mass produced boring junk. You weren't getting anything more for your money other than a literal plastic badge with a different name glued to the vehicle. It feels odd and saddens me though that so many American car brands from my youth are no longer with us. Pontiac, Mercury, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, AMC, Eagle (And Eagle really was just Mitsubishi& Renault)...and then some foreign brands were even gobbled up by these American giants and killed off too like Saab,(Saab was a great car company at first!) and you could argue Jaguar is no longer British whatsoever as it was gobbled up by Ford and later sold to Tata motors which is just an India based car company. I'm just being an old guy that's pissed that cars have become appliances without any stylistic or innovated passion behind them i suppose😅

Besides the Gator Grain top from Plymouth, they also had a 70 and 71 Fury Gran Coupe that had a brown paisley top and interior. Liked that Nite Edition pickup you showed at the beginning, I almost ordered one new,but was out of my budget at the time. Also liked the Merkur XR4Ti, but they were about 12 grand in 89,so bought a Escort ES instead. Was only $7500 brand new for a Escort. Alot of people knock the Escort, but mine was pretty good, looked similar to the GT. Did good in snow and used very little gas. Anyways, good video. 👍

A low production number Ford was the 1983 Mustang GT Turbo. As I understand It was offered as a precursor to the 1984 SVO Mustang. My wife purchased one new. What a great car. It had a 5 Speed with the TRX suspension package (metric Michelin tires and monster antisway bars). With the Turbo charged 4 cylinder, handing and balance was perfect. From what I can tell between 500-1000 were produced. Sold to buy a Volvo Station Wagon when our son was born. Sure wish I had it back.

How about the Larry Bird 33 Ford Ranger pick-ups? They were white with green pin stripes & Celtic font Larry Bird 33 at the rear quarters & possibly the front ones too, it was the 80's...☘️33

Thank you for the video. I liked that you brought these up. Chevrolet had a Camaro that used hounds tooth fabric: ua-cam.com/video/2ykVU8WDUyw/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/LjXs8By3WJM/v-deo.html I recall the Mercury Sable LTS that almost happened, but did not: ua-cam.com/video/_7tRCNjCyao/v-deo.html Lincoln Aviator exists in 2024 and sells quite well: ua-cam.com/video/q_DRv_XQTHE/v-deo.html That Aviator you showed was based of the Ford Explorer. There were three versions at that time: Ford Explorer, Mercury Mountaineer, and Lincoln Aviator. Thank you for the video and thank you for keeping it interesting. Time management. You got it figured out.

Sadly, it got totaled out, so I got a '62 T-bird. My senior year of HS, I gave the T-bird to my brother for his '69 XL convertible. Cars were cheap back then.
