I was thinking to myself "am I the only one who sees genius in this music?". Because it's elaborate, sophisticated, beautifully constructed, and almost transcendental. And then I read the comments and saw that I was not alone. I love you all my brothers of sound!
can I just take a moment to give some props to the drummer for laying down a fat set of beats and grooves. The ragtime section starting around 8:55 was particularly dank. tip of the hat to you, beat master!
Leftover Salmon, please PLEASE come to Michigan! You are the best music I’ve heard a long long time and I don’t think you’ve gotten the exposure you deserve, at least here! Your individual talents blend into perfection! You have no rivals!
I really want to see Billy get into improv Jazz type stuff with different instruments involved. You can see in this video he keeps jamming with the keyboards and drums while everyone else takes a break! Damn Billy you sure are special and so are Salmon!!!
Billy once said he was on a stage with 20 or so musicians doing a closing song with all these different musicians crowded on stage and he was just strumming along to the song waiting for his solo and he looked over and Sam Bush was way back behind everyone and was playing his heart out back there while no one could see him. This affected Billy and from that moment on, Billy said he was going to put his ego away and play his heart out in every note and chord, even when he's just keeping the groove going in the background. He said, no one was even watching Sam but Sam was in such a groove and was loving playing so much, he didn't care if anyone could hear him or see him over all the other musicians out there. He loves music that much. This seemed to be a very profound moment for Billy and now you see, he's playing his heart out even when he's not soloing.
WOW F-ing WOW! There is so much to love about this! Where do I start? First, I thought Drew was gonna take off like a rocket ship on that stool. Then watching Vince literally stop playing so he could watch Billy play. Vince seems so humble and just loves to enjoy everyone and lifting them up and his solo near the beginning was stellar. Andy was just straight honing every beautiful note on his banjo and then he had to stop playing to enjoy watching the keyboardist while he was going into some Herbie Hancock/Thelonious Monk space/time continuum. This was so magical! Billy should just join LoS when he's taking a break from melting faces on his own tour just because he seems like he's a member of this band. So adorable to watch Vince dry Billy's face off too! You can tell LoS just love each other and love playing music together. There aren't many bands that seem to have the chemistry and comradery on the level that these guys do. As the sign says on the front of the stage, Group Therapy. Truth.
OH MAN!! SOOOOO good! I sometimes get the feeling Billy wants to explore & inject more of jazz influence into his own music. He kind of goes there without doing it on purpose, anyway. He's SO smart to play with all of the different bands. I can't wait to see how he evolves over time. Makes life so much more worth LIVING!
First time I seen Billy was in Bloomington Indiana with leftover salmon in 2015 at the bluebird he opened for them been a Billy goat ever since, thank you Billy!
PLEASE get your headphones or good speakers (if they weren't already on) for that bass at 8:18. Unspeakable energy. Masterpiece that will echo long and loud for the musicians involved. Bravo, thank you for sharing.
I'm so glad for this performance - Billy's great, but this lineup puts him in perspective to graybeards that have been working at this longer than Billy's been alive. This music has texture and nuance, not just blazing speed (of which there is plenty shown here). Billy is smart for putting himself out into these guy's world - he will learn and grow from it.
left over are the OG's but you can tell they get a kick out of playing with the young guns just as much as the young ones like playing with the legends
Excellent!!! I notice that on minute 3:03 Billy was like " Come on..WTF!" but on minute 8:10 he was like smoking the last blunt and drinking the last moonshine on the earth as we know it.
I believe in 10 years a new fiddle style will have been rooted firmlyd across the globe. I saw smoke and hailstorms, and fingers gliding smoothly up and down the fret board. By now the entire globe concedes to name that style: "SHREDDER STRINGS"- fastest ever seen
I recently started concentrating on learning and playing acoustic music better. Now, with the endless "front row seats" of you-tube, I can"t keep up with it"s evolution!
What was this set billed as? I've looked on the archive for both Billy and Leftover from the 18th thru the 20th and this isn't in any of the set lists. I'd love an audio copy of the whole set if possible.
Dloomis494 just think of the music as a framework.... everyone adding their colors . Billy can feel where the song is going and being such a great player he has no problem improvising. Gotta love it !!
...almost like Mr. Strings and these cats are meant to do some shows together...you know as a side project...monster cats just locked in...so Mr. Strings can stretch them wings for real...
Check out a rippin' "Down In The Hollow" from the same set with Billy!

Just watched. Good Lord! These folks are absolutely top shelf awesome skillz and vibes.
Leftover Salmon doesn't get enough credit for being pioneers in the newgrass genre.
Lucky to have seen them dozens of times.
I was thinking to myself "am I the only one who sees genius in this music?". Because it's elaborate, sophisticated, beautifully constructed, and almost transcendental. And then I read the comments and saw that I was not alone. I love you all my brothers of sound!
Almost is incorrect! I am transformed, into what, I don't know yet.
Yes this is a cosmic jam.
No and yes... cause you're definitely full of your self.... being me you you need deflated lmao
We don't know bad music very blessed thank you Jesus! Hope he loves it too! Love your faces boys. Xoxo
can I just take a moment to give some props to the drummer for laying down a fat set of beats and grooves. The ragtime section starting around 8:55 was particularly dank. tip of the hat to you, beat master!
Oh god yes .. so true .. the drumming and the bass were stellar.
LOS’s rhythm guys are always so bad ass!
Yes and the keyboard guy really stole the show, at 9:10 the banjo player turns around and looks at him like "what is this guy playing here"
That was brilliant, that drummer is incredible.
Leftover Salmon, please PLEASE come to Michigan! You are the best music I’ve heard a long long time and I don’t think you’ve gotten the exposure you deserve, at least here! Your individual talents blend into perfection! You have no rivals!
I'm usually the only brown guy in a bluegrass festival... God this is pure feel-good music🔥🔥🔥
Tim?!
Drummer
I hope you never stop coming!
Who cares? Music is for everyone, the language of heart and soul, just rock out and groove, no worries.
Brown?! Brother you is chocolate and we is all equals here. Welcome home guys we did it
Billy really enjoyed this you can see it on his face
Such a heady jam
That mandolin solo breathed new life into me
Drew Emmitt is amazing and shreds the fiddle and electric guitar too!
All the solos theyse guys were trading off/on were awesome. I feel totally rejuvenated by improvisational music of such a high caliber.
Just the best feeling Billy Strings and LOS warming my heart &soul. 👁️💚🙏🕺🥴🦠💦🎵🎶🎤🙃🌶️💚

This is maybe my favorite live jam on UA-cam. Amazing all around.

Finally a jazz /bluegrass evolution , beautiful .!!!!
Exactly. This is what I want to hear. Super talented musicians with an eclectic style.
I love fusion 👍
Not sure what you mean about finally, this band has been doing this sort of thing for over 30 years. They are really great.
POLYETHNIC CAJUN SLAMGRASS

Was feeling unwell until this surprise hit me right between the eyes!
It’s always a pleasure to absorb Leftover Salmon.
Their smiles beam with having allot of fun. 🎉🌲👍🏔
JazzGrass, dig it. Billie gets to jam with all the dope acts.
Did you say dope? It helps to smoke some before you jam.
Indeed.
Bluegrass jazz at its best!!!👍✌️😊🙏🏼
I just ate some leftover salmon here in Kazakhstan. It was not a pleasant experience! However, this music on the other hand- very pleasant. :)
Yeah, it was like 98* out during this... And everyone was up all night the night before jammin. We're all in this together at Grey Fox
left over are the OG's but you can tell they get a kick out of playing with the young guns just as much as the young ones like playing with the legends

Sick jams!
Vince, Drew, and Andy, showing the prodigy whats good son!!!
Stellar performance! You all are having way too much fun to be playing such a complex fusion. This jam sets the bar a little bit higher.
Oh man ... what the hell was that .. where did my jaw drop again .. --> of looking for it 🍺
Goodness gracious, what a jam.
I love what's happening with bluegrass, really has turned me on to something I didn't pay much attention to
Vince Herman, F---ing Legend!
Whow ! truly inspiring music, that is awesome ! Thanks
Excellent picking.
We saw Leftover Salmon 25-yrs ago in a small SLO brewery. A really unique show...
Good job man, the sonic quality on this jam really does it justice.
I recently started concentrating on learning and playing acoustic music better. Now, with the endless "front row seats" of you-tube, I can"t keep up with it"s evolution!
Couple weeks ago I commented that you and leftover would be crazy! Saw this today and i can die happy 😃 Awesome indeed !
It was freakin HOT outside, 98 degrees....jammin!

Wow. Just wow. Really fuckin' good.
Proof that cannabis can fuel the creative process.
Nice!
Does Billy just sit in and wing it or is there time put aside to figure things out. Amazing. Not just Billy, all of them.
Dloomis494 just think of the music as a framework.... everyone adding their colors . Billy can feel where the song is going and being such a great player he has no problem improvising. Gotta love it !!
