- AZD1222 US Phase III trial met primary efficacy endpoint in preventing COVID-19 at interim analysis
www.astrazeneca.com/content/a...
clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/N...
Interim safety and efficacy analysis
N = 32,449
2:1 randomisation of vaccine to placebo
Accruing 141 symptomatic cases of COVID-19
Statistically significant vaccine efficacy of 79% at preventing symptomatic COVID-19
100% efficacy at preventing severe disease and hospitalisation
Vaccine efficacy was consistent across ethnicity and age
Aged 65 years and over, vaccine efficacy was 80%
The vaccine was well tolerated
Favourable reactogenicity and overall safety
Independent data safety monitoring board (DSMB) identified no safety concerns
DSMB conducted a specific review of thrombotic events, as well as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis
(CVST) with the assistance of an independent neurologist
DSMB found no increased risk of thrombosis or events characterised by thrombosis, n = 21,583, receiving at least one dose of the vaccine
The specific search for CVST found no events in this trial
79% white/Caucasian
8% black/African American
4% native American
4% Asian
22% of participants were Hispanic.
Two doses administered, four week interval
Extended interval of up to 12 weeks demonstrated greater efficacy
Supported by immunogenicity data
This evidence suggests administration of the second dose with an interval
Longer interval could further increase efficacy
and accelerates the number of people who can receive their first dose
Stored, transported and handled at normal refrigerated conditions
2-8 degrees Celsius or 36-46 degrees Fahrenheit, for at least six months

Concerned by information released by AstraZeneca on initial data from its COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial.
AstraZeneca may have included outdated information from that trial, which may have provided an incomplete view of the efficacy data.
Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to decide.
After thorough review of the data by independent advisory committees
Get my Astra Zenica jab on Thursday!
Good to see an army of volunteers willing to provide some service for the good of everyone.
Appreciation all round.
@Denise Skinner The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for Covid-19 is not an mRNA vaccine, mRNA vaccines are the Pfizer and Moderna variety. The AstraZeneca shot is a “viral vector vaccine”.

Strange how the only non profit vaccine is being scrutinized.
Good point.
Very good point, but only the first batch is non-profit after that you best belive people are paying big bucks. And if certain studies are to be believed we will be reliant on new vaccines due to new mutations yearly, so a good investment by Astrazeneca and a wise choice by the Bill and Belinda Gates foundation to partner them with Oxford University.

Well done to all volunteers. Great job!
Whenever things appear "strange" or unexplainable, as is the case with the AZ delays and/or scrutiny, you can always bet money is the reason.
Or Politics
My thoughts too. It’s always AZ. 🤔

Just so long as you continue to follow Dr. Campbell's posts as they are just reviews of what he has found so far and new data arrives everyday and old articles are retracted as peer review finds flaws. Unlike journalists, Dr. Campbell is at least somewhat knowledgeable about medicine as he has actually taught some of it so he gives us a good perspective that we do not get from the news but it is a moving target.

Same for me too. Auspicious day for it to have happened. Excellent organisation at Superdrug Basingstoke. So far am feeling totally fine, can’t even see where the jab was, nor feel any pain. Delighted to know that in a few weeks my chances of severe Covid will be a lot less.

High profit US pharma doesn’t want AZ use to cut into their bottom line.
agree totally!!
Yep
Neither do the anti-vaxxer loons want AZ to help the world end this pandemic.
AZ has done hasty sloppy research. This isn’t the first time. Now they sent out a press release that depended on cherry-picked data and got called on it. BTW, AZ can start charging what they want AT THEIR discretion as of July 1. The idea that a huge pharmaceutical company like AstraZeneca are doing this out of the goodness of their hearts is naive.
The USA paid AZ to develop the vaccine from Oxford's initial idea. If it wasn't for the vast amount of capital put in from Operation Warp speed there would be no AZ vaccine. Where is all this anti-US/anti-EU diatribe rooted? It certainly isn't in the facts. Perhaps a short note of thanks to the US taxpayers would be in order and anger directed toward the CEO of AZ who is running an extremely sloppy show! www.hhs.gov/about/news/2020/05/21/trump-administration-accelerates-astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine-to-be-available-beginning-in-october.html

I was really nervous about getting my jab. The lady that gave it to me was so good I had to ask her whether she has done it, I had looked away of course, she said yes. I guess she had got quite a lot of practice. Less nervous about jabs in the future.
Glad everything went well👍
You are a big boy now. Well done.
Same experience for me. I even asked the pharmacist if it was a very small gauge needle, and he said, " no, it's just very, very sharp." Incidently, one of my daughters has gotten the J & J vaccine and she said that hers hurt. I mentioned that to the pharmacist and he said, yes, it DOES hurt." He said it was because of the preservative in the vaccine.
You might not feel quite so benevolent to that individual if you become vaccine damaged.
@@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 I believe the preservatives have been a source of concern. However they are no different then those used in vaccines from the 1970's to present. Sadly the mainstream media has never taken the time to explain the differences in the vaccines properly. Hence we are all victims of conspiracy theories and fear mongering. If it is proven that the variants have not been with us from the start then the worst case scenario is one additional booster. Politics is destroying the roll out of the vaccines. NYC everyone is requesting to be Vaccinated. Our admissions are plummetting and very few deaths. Schools are all opening and if there proves to be some clusters they will be handled. Politiciains want this pandemic to last much longer, so they can have more power over US citizens.
Young people today have such wonderful values, it’s so great to see them volunteering to help in any way they can.

I’m also doing some voluntary shifts in my local vaccination centre in the UK. I take on duties at times that I think others don’t find so convenient and it fits in with running my small business. I see it as the only way to get back to some form of normal, and I want to be part of that effort to get us through this.
I’d echo what Sheralyn said, we have created a ‘well-oiled machine’ where we have been vetted first, with online training to complete before we are qualified to help and online apps to book our shifts; we are welcomed and shown how to do our range of jobs by more experienced volunteers.
We are valued and thanked by the NHS professional staff and by the public who seem, on the whole, to appreciate that we’ve given up our time to help. I’m happy to be a part of this and support my local community to get through this.
I hope as we do that we can help the rest of the world, it’s only when everyone is safe we’ll be able to say we are all safe.

Well done but until you are told, be aware that the Oxford tests used a different vaccine as a control so that there was a risk of side effects in order that participants could not determine if they had the real vaccine that way.

AZ have responded to the press release from NIAID:
"The numbers published yesterday were based on a pre-specified interim analysis with a data cut-off of 17 February.
We have reviewed the preliminary assessment of the primary analysis and the results were consistent with the interim analysis. We are now completing the validation of the statistical analysis.
We will immediately engage with the independent data safety monitoring board (DSMB) to share our primary analysis with the most up to date efficacy data. We intend to issue results of the primary analysis within 48 hours."
Given this, I am totally perplexed as to why NIAID felt the need to issue their press release. There is nothing remotely unusual about companies releasing the results of interim analyses while further data is being gathered/analysed. Indeed, they are legally obligated to do so (to prevent insider trading).
And primary analysis has now been released as promised:
76% vaccine efficacy against symptomatic COVID-19
100% efficacy against severe or critical disease and hospitalisation
85% efficacy against symptomatic COVID-19 in participants aged 65 years and over
www.astrazeneca.com/content/astraz/media-centre/press-releases/2021/azd1222-us-phase-iii-primary-analysis-confirms-safety-and-efficacy.html
So again, why did NIAID feel the need to issue their bizarre press release?
@@susanoliver697 There's nothing bizarre about it. There has been hiccup after hiccup so the vaccine is looked at as being "questionable" because of all the mishaps that have happened along the way.
In the long run the vaccines will prove themselves. Maybe in the long run the AZ vaccine will cause Dr Fauci to eat his words.
@@johnnyboy13642 I haven't heard of one mishap concerning the AZ vaccine. Most of the detrimental news has not been proved which makes one suspect other motives I'm afraid. We have all heard of fake news so one is learning to get a gut feeling about some of the news.

@Albert Clarke Well, he actually does if he's voted for the current administration.
I’m from the US and I find the conduct of AstraZeneca embarrassing, at the least. AZ has run a sloppy show since the start. The NIAiD had requested twice that AZ use non-cherry-picked data. AZ ignored them and instead released this rosy PR piece on the suspect data.
I think the USA are doing OK. They wanted to reassure themselves and therefore their public that AZ really is as safe as Pfizer and Moderna. They are not behaving anywhere near as bad as the EU mafioso
@@stephenrichards5386 40 million vaccine doses have been exported from the EU, 10 million of those to the UK. So far, the US and UK have exported 0 doses to other countries. In additions, since last year, the UK has banned the export of hundreds of medicines used to treat Covid victims.

@@snowbird6855 no. VAERS shows deaths within 28 days. That does not show causality. If you took the same cohort and didn't vaccinate them, more or less the same numbers would likely die. Me and my Mom started back in early March to take vitamin d3. at first we took 1000iu per a day. then hmmm September (I think) we increased it to 5000iu. then in December we straight up went with 10,000iu per a day. even though we both wanted to get vitamin d blood test we can't coz it's so expensive. so only my mom got the test two days ago. results came yesterday and it's 91 ng/mL!!! lol to be honest we were surprised. we both thought it'd be above 50 but below (maximum) 70. anyways now we only take one 10,000iu tablet every two days.
Better to take 5000 daily, than 10,000 every 2 days. Vit D has a very short half life (before it gets hydroxylated by the liver), of about 24 hrs and for the autocrine system to benefit in many cells (monocytes, skin cells, colon, prostate, etc..) they need the Vit D. So if possible, do it daily.
That's excellent, you'll be fine if you catch covid. I've been taking 5,000 daily for a year, prior I was taking 3-4,000 iu.
@@snowbird6855 no there is no guarantee, as your immune status also depends on a range of other nutrients such as vit C/A, Zinc. Also important is the hydartion status, current inflammations and or infections in your body. The status of bacteria in your stomach etc. etc. So it is really hard to tell, if you would be fine with an infection or not even if you seem to be healthy and take some vit D.
I take 4000iu daily been doing that for 4 months been on lower doses since last January 2020 after a bad chest infection not had a sniffle since best from Glasgow scotland
There is a study published in 2019 which showed that over a 3 year study, of different age groups and differing amounts of Vit D and using the highest quality measuring equipment, that much to researchers surprise, as the Vit D was increased, bone density decreased. Been trying to find a way to tell Dr J Cambell but f.b message prob unread. Where do I get his email?
Thanks for touching base on the latest news re: AstraZeneca. In Canada the news claims the Cdn. Govt. is still approving the use of AstraZeneca. I'm going for my first jab this upcoming Mon.
Been following you since it started. Thanks for your work and your expertise.
@Denise Skinner Denise. I would rather pass to be sure but it beats having bat virus that kills you in your body.
@Denise Skinner Misinformation. What is wrong with you?
@Denise Skinner it's deactivated. Please stop your unscientific scaremongering. This is a science based site.
@Denise Skinner Francis Boyle has no medical qualifications.
@Denise SkinnerDear Denise, that's nonsense, have you ever heard of rabies (dogs, bats, monkeys), and Hendra (bats, horses), Lissa (bats), HIV (monkeys), ebola (monkeys), smallpox (monkeys), SARS (bats, civets), MERS (camels), influenza (ducks) and many others. All animal viruses resident in animal populations that when transfered to humans by contact with the relevant animal, can in the right conditions spread causing miserable diseases and in some cases death.
Many thanks once again.👍
John thanks again 👍🏻 I would be very grateful if you get any data on the trials of switching from one vaccine type to another eg if you want to move to another vaccine platform to get vaccine cover for a new variant that your existing vaccine maker does not provide yet
Should've mentioned this earlier, but I'm glad to hear that your mom got vaccinated; I imagine that reduces your stress considerably.
I needed a new update. Please Dr Campbell can you put the date in the video title. This will help us so much when searching. Please!
'new update' is a tautology.
The date is on there. Just click the down info
@@IambiguousSegment so very, very, very important in the state of the Earth , to worry over a tautology. A tautology worry or your end of life, lets see what is more important. Geez. New update, it is NOT tautology. Petty.
@@cilandialane3084 actually, 'new update' is a tautology.

Getting jabbed next Tues.! Can't wait. Thanks for providing such valuable information on both the virus and vaccines.
Can't wait?
Thank you Cheralyn and thank you Paul. And thanks Doctor John.
Thank you Dr. Campbell.
For what..
To all that went through the US trial, including myself, all we keep hearing is bad news about the AZ, very disheartening
Hi Donna, Your efforts and bravery in face of unknown are appreciated, and the results you and your cohort have generated have been noted around the world leading to approval of OAZ in many countries. My family and I got our first OAZ shots yesterday and appreciate the efforts of all those who made it possible. Take heart also, provided you got the vaccine, you now have some protection for yourself, family and friends.
I just got my first Moderna jab about 4 hours ago, so far, feelig good. Hope it stays that way.
I've had both and they were the same pretty much. Not much the day of, second day sore arm but not at all terrible and the soreness leaving on the third day. Last friday for 2nd moderna here and normal arm today except for a warm spot still barely detectable. This time around, the area was a bit itchy but again not excessively so. Couldn't scratch it much on second day due to soreness, but by third day I did get some relief from the itch by a bit of careful scratching. Amazing modern medicine, ATB.
Winston looks intimidating with his dark mask! Checking if everybody is paying attention. 😂
Would green & yellow camouflage be better ?
Winston Einstein tesla marconni edison Campbell he is one smart dog 😂 😂 😂 😂 best wishes from Glasgow scotland
I'd like a dog JUST like Winston.
My in laws here in the US finally got the moderna shot today They’re in their 80’s and took since January to get it! 24/7 on various sites, calling countless places, finally I found out a Walmart in NJ was getting shipment in so I rang them up and got them in! They’re feeling fine. But amazing how the seniors here in the US have and still are struggling to get appointments but UK system had smoothly got them vax’d! My mum and family members in UK got a letter from GP with date and time no queues. Thank you Dr C for updates and well done sherylynn.
@Gill, not all parts of US have difficulty providing the vaccine. It depends on each state. So sorry to hear about NJ.
Got my first shot today pfizer. No ill affects so far been 3 hours
You are very brave
Got my first jab today 🇬🇧, AstraZeneca, no ill effects so far, it's been over 12 hours now, not even a sore arm.
Thank you as always Dr. Campbell.
Yeah - big shout out to the volunteers - they were awesome when I went to get my jab
Thank you everybody for testing the vaccine for me, I think trials usually take about 8 years. So it should be about 2029 before I even think about it. Oh and don't forget the government or the pharmaceutical companies excepts No responsibility if anything goes wrong. You may also want to check your life insurance to make sure you are covered.
Here in the USA our FDA is dragging their feet. Someone has not gotten their pay off.
You have no clue what you are talking about.
@@thomasrohrer7369 Hear Hear
@@thomasrohrer7369 Oh yes, this vaccine should have been released for use weeks ago. Anytime you see gubmit dragging their feet there is a need to start looking for the scoundrels. Where I live it is a case of you have got to know someone who knows someone and will make a call, then you get a call for your appointment.
You're not being cynical about vaccine approval, surely? ;o)
same with one month delay on J and J vaccine... Loot to MODERNA/FAUCCI/GATES... money is there. Less so with Pfizer. Moderna is the one being bought and pushed by Biden Admin on sugg. by FAUCCI... He and GATES just get richer from misery... since HIV/AIDS, now this... follow the money.
Glad your mums ok x
How long does the vaccine protect for? And what about the new variants?
I watch ur updates daily thanks a lot, is it possible to talk about the Astrazeneca efficacy with the African and Brazilian variant?
Dr. John, you are correct that the NIAID is one of 37 institutes, centers and agencies. This confusing.report regarding the Oxford AstraZenica vaccine is surprising and needs more explanation. As was already mentioned, the only vaccine that is nonprofit is finding a large number of queries despite the fact that it has already been approved by other countries and used to great effect throughout the UK and elsewhere.
The point you are making is quite valid, and it remains to be seen if the NIAID query
is any more 'worthwhile' than some of those in Europe, where at a suggested £1 a jab
AZ was proving very attractive - until some decided to sow the seeds of doubt and did so
quite successfully. ££$$
How “outdated” can vaccine trial data be? The vax just came out a couple of months ago. Vaccine trials used to take 20 years, but the data from them was ok?
Your statement is not true. Vaccine trials do not take 20 years. The Salk polio vaccine trials lasted for one year.
It was usually 9 years of trials...so I pray that people don't have any long term effects in the 9 years coming.
@@peacefuljourney4994 They will 100% sadly
Well done 👏 to all the volunteers and workers 👏 on the front line 👏 👍
Hello all. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me where to find information on what happens when someone gets the Moderna vaccine too early, and what their experience is if they must get a 3rd dose at the proper interval?
Thank you!
Wondeful kind thoughtful, selfless people.
How does Ethnicity reporting work in the States? 79% + 8% + 4% + 4% + 22% = 117%
I was wondering that. Mixed ethnicity individuals perhaps.
You can be Hispanic and be white, black, Native American or mixed. Latinos come in all varieties!
I have a friend who is a Nurse in Saudi Arabia. She got the AZ vaccine over a month ago. She is sick today with a positive PCR confirmation of Covid19. Thus far the primary symptom is excessive coughing. SpO2 96, with a moderately high BP 147/89 and a pulse of 130, arterial pressure 105. Robitussin has relieved the cough. Hopefully she will improve and not need to become an in-house patient of her own place of employment.
AZ issued a press release excluding data after a selected date in February, raising some questions. Why cut off at those dates? Why a press release from the company rather than waiting for full approval from CDC and FDA?
Thanks again for another great update Dr. Campbell and hello to everyone from Canada.
Some people have no brain cells
I didn't recognize you in your thumbnail, doctor. Did you change your hair?
Is there any news about IVM? in the UK? or Canada? anywhere else?
AZ, to get the 79% efficacy, chose to ignore data after Feb 17th. That is the accusation.
