You should try using the grass crest shield you have (you picked it up from the body near the black knight that was in the area shown at 11:46), it has a great passive effect. It speeds up stamina regen when held or on your back when two-handing! It may not be the best shield in terms of damage reduction when blocking (I think it has 95% reduction instead of 100% that some shields have) but extra stamina regen is never bad in this game!

I wanted to see if you noticed it but yes the most heartbreaking moment of the fight is the fact that Sif becomes clearly injured and labours to lift the sword but still tries to fight, the limp is usually what makes people realize this isn’t a malicious boss, it’s a protector.
first time commenting on this series as I cant stop watching it, but him back up for breathing room and seeing sif limp was really cool, as most souls players stick to the butt/belly/chest and hack them to ribbons before their limping animation can start.
Enjoying the series a lot! Your genuine reaction to learning the game for the first time is something hard to find on UA-cam nowadays. Everyone is a god to souls games now lil. I hope to see you play sekiro and the other souls games.
One thing about your farming thing, you could get the first 2 snakes in sens fortress entrance for a run back of 1000 souls each time and all you have to do is go from the blacksmith into sens entrance, kill the two (you can also weaken them with the arrow trap) then run back, it’s way quicker
Fun fact: you can use the Soul of Sif to create the weapon right now. It's a weapon you can actually use as well. You just need to go to the giant blacksmith in Anor Londo. Up to you if want it or not Edit: to actually make the weapon you'll need to forge it with the Soul itself and a specific item (reinforced to + 10) You make 3 things with Sifs soul: A sheild and two different swords. You can use your claymore to make a sword that you can actually use since it's a purely physical sword

Oh boi, the lore video on Sif and Artorias is a must-watch, i hope you will after the playthrough. (It does contain a few spoilers for DS3 tho, but there is an older video which doesn't)
Hello Mathias! If covenant interest you, I recommend the Chaos covenant since you're already using pyromancy. It gives off the most powerfull spell. You need to talk to the spider lady in Quelaag domain. To have responses however, you'll need to wear a specific ring: The Old Witch Ring. You can find it in the Undead Asylum, right at the beggining of the area (where the crow left you). There's a nest somewhere around and you can exchange the ring with a Sunlight Maggot. (Also the "merchant" is somehow hilarious and very well known among the fandom)
there is extra sadness to be had with this boss: if you find Sif in Oolacile and free him (which happens in the past) a different cinematic happens at the start where Sif pins you down, but then recognizes you as his savior, howls, and then picks up the sword, clearly pained that he has to fight you (the fight itself remains the same). oh and for extra pain.. Sif is NOT an optional boss so you have to kill him to progress.
You can get the Greatsword of Artorias. You have to bring the Soul of Sif and a highly upgraded broken sword to the Giant Blacksmith. To get the most out of it you need a character with a lot of int and faith though. You need 20 int and 20 faith to even wield it properly and even more than that to take maximum advantage of the scaling it has.
Covenants are often in game groups you can join with a common goal. Sunbros or Golden summon signs are specifically helpful spirits whereas blue spirits are defenders wether it’s an defending an area or defending the host. Some covenants are sinister and attempt to hinder or kill the host as some type of invader. The Darkroot Woods is a guardian covenants and blue players would have invaded you to defend the area if you were in human form. Covenants are some of the funnest systems in souls games IMO.
You actually got the armour of the cool guy (shiva of the east) you collected it at the start And his cool sword can be farmed from the big skeletons at the graveyard it's called the murakumo.
This is the first blind play through I’ve seen where all secrets are found, best weapon was chosen, seems to understand some lore, also seemed to know something would happen by killing big titties, and all npc quests are progressed properly. You knew the character was going to remove that sword before you even walked up to it. You even knew to kick lautrec off the Cliff! Flawless run so far. I’m looking forward to the next one 😅
The forest with the "ghost people" is supposed to train you for PvP by having basic characters attack you. Later on one learned that that area in the forest was a major arena for PvP duels and gank squads. It wasn't my style, but some people really got off on griefing people in the forest, and probably still do. It's basically just a PvP training arena. Also ironic that that same forest area became notorious for being able to farm souls early on. Covenants were mainly for PvP. They continued this mechanic in the other Souls games. Like, the Cat Covenant would work in the forest. Other covenants operated differently, depending on what kind of PvP you wanted to do. Two favorites are Darkwraith and Gravelord Servant, both of which are very hard and obscure for a beginner, but so much fun when you get them. As a Gravelord Servant you can curse the games of other players, but only if they're in NG+, causing them to have extra enemies appear in their games, which are black phantoms of normal enemies, and much stronger. The players have to hunt down your sign and invade your world to get rid of the curse. So cool.
I’m confused about all those sad/tear comments for Sif as well - will wait for the Lore & Chill! Now real quick - 8:11 is actually not one of those trolling comments.👀 I think baby mushroom “attacks” too, but in the cutest way - they try to hug you but fall.🤣 Finished my 1st play-through last weekend with a huge question mark above my head. Started my 2nd play-through right away - so much I’ve missed or done wrong in the game it’s embarrassing.😂 By the way, House of Fun for soul farming - you’re something else Mati! My go-to was the 6 giant sentinels near the Anor Londo bonfire (until I did something wrong and ruined it). Glad I woke up early today for a new vid!✌️
The giant smith in Anor londo is where you take boss souls, but requires combining with other weapons. Id look up a guide. Also you should use grass crest shield, does wonders for stamina recovery. Great episode though!
The Giants in Anor Londo drop 3000 souls apiece and are some of the easiest enemies to fight so long as you use a bow or something to bait them out one at a time. I used to farm there when I first played this game. The run-backs in Dark Souls II are gonna break this man. Yeah, it's even worse that they animate Sif to limp around injured when he's in critical health. He also starts swinging a lot more slowly and stumbling around because of his injuries.
the silver knights are a much better farm if you can parry them consistently. 1200 base souls, with the mimic hat, silver ring, and overkill bonus you get over 2k a piece and there are like a dozen of them in a pretty small area. darkwraiths in new londo are a good option too since they can drop chunks and slabs
@@IliumGaming I more meant with no boosting items and ease of combat. Parrying requires practice while dodging around a lumbering giant that can barely hit you tends to be a little bit more forgiving. Again, you just need a ranged weapon to bait them out one at a time from the opening bonfire in Anor Londo and you get easy access to like six of them. That's 18,000 souls in one run.
@@Gakusangi that’s fair, the silver knight method is just much faster and parrying them isn’t that hard. if you’re doing many rounds to buy stuff like the dragon crest rings it can be a big time save. my sorcerer build did a few rounds of this to get the crystal spells and such. although that build i did also kill the giants because i could one shot them anyway so why not.
@@IliumGaming Elden Ring is the one time in these games I seriously considered suggesting a mage build for a new player. Over all the other games, because of the way ER is designed, it was the best for just jumping right into magic and just having it as your main damage source. I've played one in all the games, including one-shot mage in Dark Souls 1, but it takes WORK to get that. ER is just fun! It has fun spells that are easy to keep stocked up on.
A good place to farm souls (around 11,000 each run) is at the “Chamber of the Princess” bonfire. Go down the elevator and kill the two big knights, archer, and knights right outside the cathedral doors then use a homeward bone or miracle homeward to return to the bonfire, repeat. You will get even more with the Silver Serpent Ring and Symbol of Avarice head gear equipped.
Welcome to the forest of cheese! If you need some quick souls farming... Bait all the lads... Run back to the steps and wait by the bottom and all the fells just run up the steps and try to drop onto you but fall off the cliff. It's wonderful... I genuinely had a good lol the other day as 5 of them dropped onto me one by one and all fell to their deaths.
I would advise you to forge Artorias shield from Sif`s soul and any shield +10 upgraded. It has a huge amount of stability that grants you to block powerful attacks with minimum stamina cost. It will help you against many bosses (especially against Artorias itself)

I've played one in all the games, including one-shot mage in Dark Souls 1, but it takes WORK to get that. ER is just fun! It has fun spells that are easy to keep stocked up on.
He should honestly skip ds2 for now
The rusted iron ring that you got from undead asylum also works for the near waterfall area, not just swamp, if i remember correctly.
Yea knowing the full story of sif is heartbreaking
Talking of Purple Moss Clumps you need them again for blight town there loads left to do in that area
The sadness ...
Short note: 1. once you finish this game Listen to song of the abyss by aviators. 2. Cry a lot.
Love your playthrough

my theory is that all of those people in the woods are other undeads that died there and now appear as ghosts
the irony that he was already at the best place to farm souls and almost did the trick accidentally.
The limp. Bro the limp hurts
18:16 first time seeing mr cat (you ran past him before 😂)
you can change the jump button to L3 if you didn't know that, great video btw ♥️
yoo, mati vs sif, legendary face off
A good place to farm souls (around 11,000 each run) is at the “Chamber of the Princess” bonfire. Go down the elevator and kill the two big knights, archer, and knights right outside the cathedral doors then use a homeward bone or miracle homeward to return to the bonfire, repeat. You will get even more with the Silver Serpent Ring and Symbol of Avarice head gear equipped.
I would like to apologize, Sif freaks out easily. He´s just trying to be a good boy...

Seem to remember there is a good armour set near the cat lady.
I think I've already said this but I drink a lot on a weekend and can't remember lol Sorry I've not been watching your videos since Bloodborne bro, I've been replaying Elden Ring for the DLC and getting a full Malenia back piece tattood which absolutely sucks but will be awesome when it's done x
