    Jack apparently doesn't know his BBQ has a setting that can be used below the HIGH setting so as not to burn the F out of his food. Left side...his food was lifted up.

    I noticed you didn't season the new grates before cooking on them, that's why the meat stuck to the grates. A liberal coating of avocado oil on the grates, get them up to 500 degrees and swab them again with oil again while they're hot then let them cool down a bit would season them and keep the meat from sticking. Makes cleaning them up easier as well.

    One suggestion: season the Grill Grates like you would a cast-iron skillet, and always wipe any grates or racks with a little oil on a towel before putting the meat down. It'll reduce sticking/tearing.

      When you say this you are not understanding there are people in this world who are functionally illiterate...so they CANNOT read those directions. Also from a product review standpoint it demonstrates how user friendly and intuitive a product is. Also Jack is extremely fair in that he always gives products a second go after reading the directions first. So i give your criticism a FAIL.

    Looks like you already have cast Iron grates which should be great for searing but I can see how flame ups would still be a problem. I think people like me who just have a plain ol' Weber grill with cheap steel grates would have the most to benefit from this product. I've seen a few grills in store that actually come with grates similar to this built in. Thank you for the review Jack.

    Grease fire doesn't mean "the whole thing is destroyed". I've been grilling for 20 years, my kids bicycle squirt bottle filled with water always sits by the grill, so simple, just don't squirt the food, just the flair up. Or just piss on it, I suppose.

    I understand the goal of the Grillgrates product. To provide an wide and even heat distribution on a surface for grilling food and at the same time shield the foods from flame flair ups and this test shows that. However it fails to prove which method results in more enjoyable food eating experience. Because! There was no management of the cooking. It was all time based. It would have been a far better test if two gas grills were used and you managed the cooking as it cooked to get the best results from both. THEN a taste test from both would be valid.

      Same question! I'm a total newb at "enthusiast" grilling--I grill on a wallymart special charcoal every Sunday for the past five years and NEVER have had a flareup. Is it because the charcoal burns cooler?

    • @Diabolus1978

      on gas grills u have a grease tray at the bottom and It can catch fire. and there is grease over the flame protecters. but if u never clean your grill like jack it will catch fire someday.

    1. I wonder if this product would have any value on a infrared grill? 2. I'm not sure if the test was fair, if the grill grates cause the entire grill to hotbox, wouldn't that adversely effect the baseline meats? Might even explain the uneven burgers.

  • @jeffstanley4593
    @jeffstanley4593 8 років тому +16

    The Grill Grate kept the meat further from the heat so it cooked more gently. Nothing surprising about that . You would have gotten the same result by turning the on the flames on one side of the grill and cooking on the opposite side of the grill. It is called indirect cooking but another real good video.

      I think it would be different because there is still hear coming through the holes directly under the food with the grill grates. Indirect heat is further away from the food. But you're right it's basically the same idea.

      Medium is great. Even the high end of medium rare is farily acceptable. I agree that rare is too low though. That meat has been churned through a grinder and is more likely to have contaminants within the meat itself. That is why people have traditionally cooked burgers more.
