Apple unveils updates to Wallet, Weather and Maps apps in iOS 15

Apple’s senior vice president in charge of software, Craig Federighi, announced iOS 15, the latest version of the iPhone operating system. This software typically releases for most users alongside new iPhones in the fall, but developers and early adopters can start using it earlier, typically during the summer.
IOS 15 includes:
FaceTime improvements, including 3D audio, portrait mode to blur backgrounds, and a grid view to speak to multiple people at the same time. Apple will also allow users to send links to schedule individual FaceTime calls, like Zoom links. Users can also share their screens or music, through a new software feature called ShareTime.
FaceTime calls are also now supported on Windows and Android through a browser, the first time that FaceTime has been supported across platforms.
An iMessage redesign, which includes features that turns messaged photos into galleries.
A new feature called “shared with you” saves links that people sent you and puts them in one place so users can address them later. It works with Apple Music, Safari, Apple Podcasts, Apple TV and Apple News. Users can pin important messages featuring content.
Redesigned notifications, including a feature that collects users’ notifications into a custom summary, ordered by priority. Notifications from people will continue to appear on the lock screen so they won’t be missed.
Users who have turned on “do not disturb” or a new “focus” mode will have their status shared with other users, like an away message.
Focus mode can hide any apps that you don’t want to distract you.
Camera improvements, including a feature called Live Text that can automatically identify and scan text in photographs.
Apple’s machine learning will also be able to identify elements in photos, such as location or whether there’s a pet in the scene. Apple’s system search, Spotlight, will search these elements.
A feature called Memories will use machine learning to combine photos into relevant galleries or animations and sometimes add music from Apple Music.
Apple is also updating expanding the Wallet app functionality to include corporate badges as well as keys to get into hotels and houses with smart homes.
Apple is also going to support scanning U.S. IDs, such as driver’s licenses, into their wallet. Apple says it is only supported in some states for now, and the TSA will accept the credential.
Apple’s Safari browser on the iPhone can now support the same extensions that the desktop version of Safari does. Apple also redesigned the tab interface.

I love the Apple Maps interface. But, I 'm still going to use google maps. Because Apple maps doesn’t work in my region.
It only works if you live in California.

But here in Ireland a lot of the new updates will never happen especially those in wallet.
A few months ago me and my friends were walking near our school and we saw a car with a 3D camera and a label that said Apple Maps.
So can I just scan my passport and use it to go out of the country?
Not passports yet. But they have patents for it and they're working with Google on the ISO standard for it.

Apple ios 15 better add the battery percentage back in the right hand corner of the screen of the iPhone without having to drag down. It's not conducive when you're multitasking and the drag down feature interrupts your video, facetime, and other activities.
Wtf apple don't have that? I always assumed they did. It's a setting I'm 99.9% sure. Go onto settings, battery and look

maps looks great if only it would work in germany
So I'm driving down the highway and a cop pulls me over in a participating State. He asks for my Driver's License, proof of Registration and Insurance. I hand him my phone with the license displayed in Apple Wallet along with the paper copy's of my Registration and Insurance Card. He now takes my unlocked phone back to his Cruiser to run all of my data. While he has my unlocked phone in his possession he decides to go through my pictures and some of my other personal information. I don't think I'd be comfortable with that scenario. Is Apple going to ensure that the phone is locked but for the display of the license or ID or is the phone going to be unlocked allowing free access to anything else on it?
I actually tried that with my applepay unlocking it with my face, it actually only unlocks the card but not the whole phone entirelly so we should be good if they check our licence, apple isn't that dumb to over look that part

Most likely police departments will invest in NFC scanning technology that will allow someone to present their digital ID by tapping their iphone on the scanner which relays back to the officer’s computer

It’s a state by state basis. You would have to find out if your state supports it when ios 15 is released first

That’s not how it works. The information is stored on the phone in encrypted form.
I doubt the average apple employee would have the knowledge to hack into credit card info and ID’s unless they spend too much time on the dark web
