- How to move alpacas using a herding tape, plus some husbandry tasks - injecting, condition scoring and top-knot trimming. A bucket of food may get them in for you but you need a fail safe plan for the times when they are not going to cooperate - when it is getting dark, when the vet is coming or if one is ill or injured. For most tasks no restraint is necessary and it is less stressful for you and your alpacas to work with them in a pen. If you have fewer alpacas tie the hurdles along their length to reduce the size of the pen. Try to be calm and breathe slowly when working with your alpacas. I do not claim to be an expert, but this works for me - hope it helps!
Thank you! This helped me and my dad herd our alpacas late at night to our baby alpaca who got himself stranded alone in another paddock!
luckily we had a 500m tape laying around in the shed...
@@Marcus-bx4xm Everyone should have a 500 m tape to hand!
Sir this absolutely works and the magic rope!
Very nice. Thanks for your video.
Your videos are awesome ! Please make more videos ! From Vancouver Island 😊
Thanks Sunflower!
Thank you so much for this video, I'm from Aus and I followed it exactly yesterday! I've never handled alpacas before and had to put eye drops in one while my parents were away. A life saver!
Fantastic! Glad it helped.
hiiiiii
I’m a new owner of alpacas and found this very helpful. Thank you
Thank Lisa. Glad it helped.
I love this video! Thank you. But why don't your boys kick at you? I have a female that will kick the living daylights out of me if you walk near her back end. Suggestions?
Even if you need to inject or drench one alpaca, always work with a group in a suitably sized pen so that they don't have room to kick and feel secure with their companions. Also, don't go behind them! I can't think of a job where you need to be behind them - they don't kick sideways.
@@donutpanic yours might not kick sideways 🤣. A couple of mine do. This is an excellent video on alpaca handling. A good thing to share with new owners. Thank you.
What kind of panels are those?
Hi Mike. They are from RK Fabrication in Lincolnshire, but I presume from your comment that you are not in th UK.
