Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Release Date: June 6, 2014
A soldier fighting aliens gets to relive the same day over and over again, the day restarting every time he dies.
I love what can happen when people just focus on making a good movie
Yup but also copied based off a manga called all you need is kill. Possibly the best live action adaption. It’s so good that no one even knows it’s based off a manga
@@Devilchyldeeverything is similar or inspired by something else at this point. There is nothing new under sun
@@Devilchyldethe manga was a light novel first if we're gonna get technical. And it was also a lot sadder.
@@Devilchylde They didn't copy it, Einstein. It was an officially an adaptation of the novel. This movie was even named 'All You Need Is Kill' during early production which is basically the same as novel but they later changed it to 'Edge of Tomorrow'.
@@PrinceMandal ummmm Einstein? I literally said it’s the best live action ADAPTION EVER!!! What does adaption mean you fool
13:45: I think by this point he's probably reset well over a hundred times. (And by the end of the movie, it's probably been several hundred times or more.) One thing about movies like this is that it's usually implied that the character has reset far more often than what the audience actually sees. When they pick up certain skills or already know how things are going to go, that represents a lot of "off screen learning."
Phil lives that day thousands of times in Groundhog Day.
this comment is more believable to me since the character from the source Manga was able to finish his story in about 160-168 loops. and by then he's learned how to fight in multiple ways and break his loop. the down side was he only won the battle not the war.
@@brdshtlss8980way late here but Rita says she watched Hendricks die over 300 times when she had the power. IMO it would make sense that Toms mission was harder then hers and probably more then double the times she tried in Verdun
I would say likely more like thousands. Easily. We see that in how he knows everything about almost everyone he meets, and almost everyone they interact with also. So not only does he have enough chances to learn everything about who he meets and interacts with, but also learn enough to know almost everything they’ve done and people they’ve met that day or in the past as well. And also just mathematically when he is listing off all the choices they can’t make at certain points, it would’ve had to been dozens of times jus to get that working car and leave the beach region, dozens of times to get the heli working. Hundreds of times to get him training. I would say he probably lived several years of the same day, maybe about 5 years doing the same day over and over. Which is why we see him so empty
Tom Cruise’s yell right before every death took me out! 😂
I miss the time Hollywood made big-budget movies without worrying about making a franchise out of it
Well, if it made more money it would already be a franchise lol. You people are just too naive.
@@j.j.4150let’s be glad it didn’t because this film didn’t need a part 2. It was good enough on its own
They wanted to make a sequel, but the film barely broke even. Plus it's already been nearly a decade and the actors are too old.
@@j.j.4150 @zombiesnyder13 Actually, Wiki said Tom wanted to make a sequel but just got busy with his other movies.
@@doughbafettboi tom cruise, too old? Age doesn't matter to some actors like cruise and Reaves they will go over the top to make a check
I was JUST wondering “has Perfect Mix seen Oblivion with Tom Cruise” and here yall are watching another Tom Cruise movie!
Yes Oblivion would be a great watch for them!
I saw an analysis of this and other groundhog day-esque movies, and it's not confirmed by anyone involved, but the amount of repeats and what he learned suggest not just a thousand days but DECADES of living over and over again
🤯🤯🤯🤯
Woww
Might be not the most accurate comparison but judging from my experience speedrunning Doom and Doom Eternal it most definitely wasn't decades. You can memorize a game that normally takes 15 hours of gameplay down to a single input which there are often dozens a second in less than 1000 hours.
Yeah but gamers usually have thousands of hours in other games to gain that ability. Besides he's actually doing movement not sitting on his ass moving a controller😂 full body combat memory is a lot different than just eye and hand coordination of a gamer
@@MuppetsSh0w That's a LOT different.
A prequel of this movie showing Rita's progression would go so hard
Broo!!! Yes!! That's a sequal that'd make sense
@@M_k-zi3tn OMG too bad its too late. Younger Emily would be fire. XD
please no, we don't need needless prequels/sequels
I still love this movie, and the source material: All You Need Is Kill, by Hiroshi Sakurasaka. He tried to imagine the psychology of a video game character in something like Dark Souls, where its so difficult you play dozens of time just to beat one section.
On how many times: obviously a lot. Best internet estimates fall between about a year to decades. In the book, its 160 days until he and Rita are able to end that particular day, and he retains the power to lead the rest of the war to slow but inevitable victory.
The book is definitely worth the read, as well as the manga adaptation. Its a bit more nihilistic (or maybe a lot) but its still fun.
TOM CRUISE = LEGEND
Just a great twist on a not uncommon theme but just took it to another level. Never a Tom Cruise fan per se but can’t knock his abilities…& he really did a great job of showing how the repetition was wearing on him, especially watching her die countless times. Enjoyed your commentary, when y’all can would like to a reaction to “Oblivion” & “The Time Machine”!
Excellent reaction! I saw this movie on the big screen when it was released so there was that extra gut punch of everything on a 50 foot screen. What a ride!
I loved the first few minutes of your video with you both saying, “We have no idea what we are about to watch.” It made it even more fun as I watched you guys begin to grasp what was happening to Cruise’s character. Awesome job!
love this movie: fun, dynamic, well-made and well-acted! such an enjoyable watch!
a movie that takes the concept of "war is hell" to a new level - these two went through hell hundreds of times instead of once. also, it was nice to see tom cruise in a role different from his usual one - an invincible superman. this time he he had to walk the entire Hero's Path - from a cowardly brat to a legend! ❤
I remember when this came out it was originally titled The Edge of Tomorrow, and it's a great movie! Fun fact, Emily Blunt cried during filming due to the strain on her body from them wearing actual exoskeletal suits, it was brutal!
Emily has said that she cried the day she first wore the suit, since the weight (85 pounds) was so overwhelming. Tom joked her out of her breakdown and she was OK afterwards.
I suggested this movie a while back and am not surprised you loved it- great movie. Just a reminder... I also suggested Kick Ass!, Blade, The Crow, and Minority Report as well. Keep going you two are GREAT!!! 😎
Great reaction guys 🥰
Cage died 24 times ON CAMERA, but based on inferences from dialogue and the book that the movie is based on (All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka), it can be estimated that Tom Cruise's character dies over 300 times.
the character from the book seems to top out at 160-168 ish but i wouldn't doubt if cruise did in fact die more here.
One of my favorite movies!! So underrated!
Isn’t there also the familiarity of playing a videogame dying and coming back over and over again 🎮to this movie
Such an amazingly crafted film from script to practical effects and real locations! love these two reactiong together
Tom Cruise have so many extra movies!
Tom Cruise is amazing in this. It's nice to see an action film where outstanding visual effects are in place to support the story and not the other way around.
Total resets for Tom in the film are just over a year. Emily reset about 300 times herself before she lost the power.
28:46 He got the blood of the Omega. When he had the blood of the Alpha the Alpha would die everytime he reset . So when he reset the Omega instantly died, ending the war. Also with the Omega's blood he can reset to different times. The Alpha dying was the clue to the Omega that the time power had been stolen.
That was my interpretation too, I think it makes the most sense by far.
I think this is a little off. When Cage gets the blood of the Omega at the end he gets the powers associated with an Omega but isn't capable of consciously using them, since his human brain doesn't understand how to use those powers. That's why when the day resets all the mimics die because they are being controlled by Cage who doesn't know how to maintain them.
The time reset seems to be an instinctive reaction that the omega uses when an Alpha dies. The Omega has no direct control over it, which is why it doesn't just ignore any time when Cage dies...maybe hinting at some evolved survival instinct this alien species has. Cage can't reset to different times. The reset to earlier in the day at the end is just a result of him dying earlier at the end of the movie (dies on the first night) than throughout the rest of the film (dies on the second day during the invasion).
Maybe in Edge of Tomorrow 2 we will see Cage tap into his Omega powers and take control of several mimics to fight alongside him?
Great movie. Other great time travel movies are The Butterfly Effect 2004 and Frequency 2000. Also another great Tom Cruise movie which is not reacted at all is the first Jack Reacher movie.
the butterfly effect is a superb movie, but only with the original ending. the other lowers the movie a lot.
_Sooooo much fun_ watching with you! And I often recommend *Deja Vu* (2006) with *Denzel Washington.* Though, it sounds like *Vince* may have seen it. 🤔
13:55 honestly I would say a few hundred. By the end of this movie he's reset easily hundreds of times. That's the good thing about this movie is they make you think maybe it's not been that much but there's at least dozens or tens of dozens of times every chapter that they just don't show you him resetting by this point the movie I'd say definitely probably at least 200 times and yes I'm pretty sure he feels every time he dies Even if only for a second
In the book, he resets 160 times total. Also, mimics cannot see into the future, they can only reset the time to go back.
I barely watched this movie this year, and I love all time movies. so glad I finally watched this one.
She was a trained soldier, and it took her 300 attempts to win a battle.
He was unsuitable for war at the start of his journey ("not so much as a paper cut"), so I'd vote for many thousands.
One of my favorite, sci-fi movies growing up and I still sometimes rewatch it to this day
If you loved this when you were "growing up" you are still growing up
@@gordonfreeman1396 not really grown men can still love watching movies they loved watching when they were a child
This is just such a fun movie. So well made and so entertaining. I never get tired of it.
And yeah, I agree, he had to have rerun that day thousands of times.
Oblivion is another great Tom Cruise sci-fi movie.
Highly underrated film
The aliens weren't able to see the future, they simply reset the day every time an Alpha died, and Tom cruise was now an Alpha to them so they could not differentiate between him and the other alphas. great Review.
One of the best out there! Enjoyed watching with y'all.
Fantastic movie! Thanks for reacting to it
Two at once? I feel many of us will be able to multi-task in a case like that.
THANKS for watching one of my favorite movies!!!!
Ye-es - you didn't seem to get that the alien didn't see the future, it saw the past - so when Tom took over the ability to re-set the present, it had NO IDEA what was happening - pay attention!
It's one of my favorite movies! I'm so glad you guys reacted to this movie.
"He's such a headstrong egghead." so he's 'eggheadstrong'! :D
The man playing the general is Brendan Gleason, he played Madeye Moody in HARRY POTTER
Such a fun movie!! Loved it the entire way
Easily my favorite movie of all time
Good Movie, Good Reation. Luv u from Peru.
One of my sci fi movies.
maybe it was at least 10,000 times like on the movie Groundhog's Day
If we think about it this is one of the first good live action anime adaptations. WEll its not out right said but this is very much an adaptation of the manga All you need is kill. From the monsters too the live die repeat type plot, and the mech suit things. If you read the first few chapters you'd almost want to call this theft, but like good theft
It’s not theft because it is in fact a licensed and credited adaptation of said manga; they changed the title to something that made more sense grammatically in English.
i didnt say its theft? I said its pretty much a loose adaptation@@caleblim6890
You need to watch Groundhog Day. That was one old versin of this concept, but with humour, with Bill Murray.
One of my favorite movies. Perfect choice.
Fun Fact: the movie is based on a Japanese Anime/Manga called "All you need is kill." Good read
Such a good movie
Loved it! This was a great watch . Thanks for keeping me entertained at work! 😂
One of the best most underrated sci Fi movies ever
Y’all should watch Tom cruise’s mission impossible movies plz 🙏🙏🙏
i think he was stuck in the loop for at least 20 years
One of the most underrated movies.
With those movies I wish they had check points where save a point place so you won’t have to start from the beginning again
Young people are do proud that their first thought is too run....
I think the editing implies he might have reached something like a thousands deaths; considering his level of proficiency in battle and murdering aliens that would make sense.
This movie is based on a Japanese Manga comic that was made decades ago :)
according to imdb Live. Die. Repeat and Repeat (EoT 2) is in development right now with same director attached so that would be something
The box of explosives were claymore landmines from Viet Nam. They explode and blast the equivalent of 10 shotguns blasts.
This is like a replay of GROUNDHOG DAY, with guns and boogers.
The most well known loop movie is Ground Hog Day. The one you mention is Happy Death Day. There are other low budget movies that have a "loop" effect. There are a few television series that have an episode of "loops". Star Trek TNG had cause and effect and Stargate has one as well. Additionally the latest which is this "movie level good" is the second season of Loki.
This movie is great, yall should watch "Oblivion" another cool sci fi Tom Cruise movie..very solid
This is one of my favourite films🤝🏽
If I make it with acting I'll make sure to bring y'all to the premieres because I love y'all channel and feel apart of your family
If you guys are big fans of Emily Blunt and Scifi watch her with Matt Damon in THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU as the fight for LOVE ❤️
Speaking of Time loop, watch Groundhog Day after this.
There is no limit to how many times he could have repeated. Millions or billions or trillions.
Tom Cruise is supposed to be making a part 2
One of the best movies
Great movie indeed.
One note, I’m pretty sure Tom stole their power to reset the day.
Great movie!
Top Tier ignorant?
Can I use that line?
That was classic!
Great reaction y’all!
Independence Day meets Groundhog Day
"Groundhog Day"
As far as how many days he reset, in the book this is based on Cage relives that day 160 times.
I would say he died thousands of times. To be able to move through the battlefield that way.
Raise the volume for the film pleaaaase
Loved this movie
It's a claymore mine he stuck on his chest.
Idk if y'all know this but this movie was inspired by a Japanese manga and is a very good adaptation
Little known fact: This is an adaptation of a manga called, All You Need Is Kill.
As already mentioned I think you'd enjoy the Tom Cruise film "Oblivion"
RIP Bill Paxton.. he'll always be "Chet" to me. (Weird Science)
Noticed: for Caravan v Trailer, the American uses the British name, and the Brit does the opposite.
Denzel = movie 'DEJA VU'
It 100% was in the thousands of resets
Only majour complaint in the movie, I wish it was 2-5 minutes longer I want to see that conversation hehe.
Okay now do Happy Death Day. Similar Groundhog Day stuff and it's hilarious.
Yall would like watching The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise. Have you seen Valarian and the City of a Thousand Planets?
Google "The Cassandra complex" (Not the music group, but the philosophy)
Tom cruise movie syfy
- centencia previa
- mision imposible
"All You Need Is Kill"
Only legends know what it means
one of my fave films..such a fresh concept..anyways..guys, have you watch World War Z? if not, u should..
I like this movie! but I got kinda bummed out when I found out in the book he died about 24-26 times, I just dont think it makes sense I thought at least like 200 times. But overall great video keep it up
And of course this features a wonder minor performance from Bill Paxton.
It seems like he has a great memory, but we're only seeing highlights from his many, many attempts.
