don't know if you caught it. he survived the treatment without problems or mutating so he's immune to the disease. also there's another ending where the girl and boy make it to the "safe city" but will dies killing the creatures to cover their escape.
@@Nala_1230 I was SO confused seeing this...this one is so much better, it does its own writing justice when it comes to the infected being naturally hostile, BUT VERY intelligent and comprehensible. And that human redemption in an apocalypse does not need to end with someone dying, unlike most apocalyptic films. When he saw the butterfly, at first glance it would make sense for him to want to make things right, but wanting to unite with his daughter and wife again, but then again it didn't at all. He could've killed himself after his dog died (which..he TRIED to when he drove that car through the bridge), but he kept researching. And him meeting those people was clearly a sign, a second chance at a new life. As for the bad ending, I did liked the tragedy, when the leader kept beating against the glass. I will always remember the line: "They're not gonna stop." Showed how humanity can and will destroy themselves and their planet.
The scene with the mannequin moved and the trap was all a setup by the vampires. It's not only to set up what happens next, but to show how intelligent they are. This scene creeped me out so much as a kid and gave me a fear of mannequins.

My theory is that he was already going insane from loneliness and no social interaction, as we see him talking to inanimate objects as if they're people. I think we see it move because that's what he's seeing. It's just his mind playing tricks on him.

I prefer the alternate ending as well #edit: i just realized, they DID watch the alternate ending here (wich is now seen as canon) and you were referring to the theatrical version with that lame wannabe heroic ending. No, no, i definitely prefer this one here, it gives so much more to think about, social commentary and presenting a twist with a different angle of how a new form of socially creatures able of empathy and emotions hase evolved and to them Neville is the monster. That is so much better.
@@schnubbel76 i understand why you’d think that, i just didn’t like the idea that these creatures which as intelligent as they might be, were painted as aggressive and killing everyone even before his character captured the woman creature, only to instantly change their ways because of this girl. i guess they’re hinting that the ‘boss’ of the creatures only wanted his wife/girl back, but given that the whole movie sets them up as wiping out near enough all humans, it just never made sense to me. I also think the sacrifice of wills character made a lot of sense for the person he was and also made the payout of his work that he dedicated himself too more valuable, like the final quote says in that ending, ‘this is his legend’, it was quite literally his legend that he dedicated himself to. i understand both sides of the argument to be fair, i just felt like the theatrical version was the better send off for his character.

LOVE this ending. It shows that he's actually the villain, especially when he says "I'm sorry" and the camera focuses on the wall of dead vampires. Makes the movie so much deeper. I believe they always knew where he lived and just left him alone to be honest. He's BEEN kidnapping them for years and years. They knew but didn't attack him.
The book originally had Neville as the ONLY human who was unaffected. The vampires look at him in his cell after he takes a lethal overdose with medication given to him by a vampire named "Ruth" before the execution day he's got after being put on trial. He speculates with his last moments on his situation. His last thought was "I am legend".
OMG WHAATTTT this ending is so much better than the other oneeeeee. I wish I watched this ending when I saw the movie the first time. If you didn't know, the other ending is where he like sacrifices himself to save the mom and the son and it was a really sad ending. This one is so much better.
I love how it’s a vampire/zombie movie that doesn’t follow the classic “how can we cure everyone” plot. Yes he is trying to cure them, but he realizes they don’t need to be cured. They are the new “human” race and he is the legend, the boogeyman that comes out at “night” to hunt them. The days of the humans are over.

The reason they made this reload with the different ending is because they're about to come out with part 2 and Will Smith is the leading character again in part 2 so they had to be able to explain him still being around in part 2 so for those who never saw the original, it will blend together. For those of us who remember the original, we knew Will could not be in a part 2 if they ever made one because of what happened from the time they attacked Will Smith's house. In the original he didn't get bit but because of what's in the trailer for part 2, if you go watch it, you'll understand why they had to add that part.
Will Smith is incredible. Only he and Tom Hanks could carry a movie of this scale practically on their own and make it riveting. The scenes of abandoned NYC are breathtaking.

There's another version of this movie that can be found only in the expensive collector's edition DVD. The movie is 30-35 minutes longer (which is what connects to the ending of this version) and explores not only much more of the world, but character development is way more fleshed out. Discussions and questions about god and man are throughout, which eventually leads up to the argument where Will Smith says "There is no god... everybody we have ever known is dead!" This reaction from him is from a gradual build up through the first half of the movie. None of the extra scenes can be found online, because the studio has a copyright marker on them, so if you do find any of them, they're either poor quality or they've got commentary over them so you can't hear the scenes audio/dialogue.
My family went to see this in the theater. My sister got scared and demanded to leave after the lions and my mom had to hunch down and call my grandma whispering to get my sister. She was NOT about to miss a second of the movie 😆
One thing that is crazy in this movie, is there is 2 endings. The one that he lets the zombie/vampira women go to her people, and will smith goes to find another human with anna and ethan. The second one, instead of letting the woman go, he instead saves anna and ethan from dying by jumping at the leader and his gang with a frag grenade, exploding himself, and then anna and ethan find an small village like civilization, where they have will's blood (that is immune) that he gave them before blowing up
Actually, there's a little bit more to the different endings. The theatrical version had that the infected (they're not exactly vampires like in the novel) are still intelligent enough but are slowly losing it more and more. In the alternate ending, the infected originally began as uncontrollable monsters who had no sense of intelligence, until 3 years after the outbreak when they began to redevelop human intelligence and understanding.

This ending is canon, and tells more of the story that the book conveyed. in the book, it is revealed that the dark seekers are essentially just the new race of humans. The dark seekers saw Will Smith's character as a sort of Boogeyman who stole their people while they were asleep in the day. Hence the name "I Am Legend".

Well, if we are talking which ending is the true ending, then it’s the one from the book. Where Neville realizes that he is the one seen as a monster. Because he is the only human on Earth. Everyone is a vampire, and Neville is the mythical monster hunting them during the day. It’s basically just like how we see vampires as scary predators. Except that Neville is the predator here. He is a legendary figure for them. Hence the title “I Am Legend”.

Suddenly Fred is out in the middle of the street Either Fred is alive, or someone else moved him.... It was the Infected.... It showed that the Infected were getting smarter and smarter each day How did they know that he frequently visits the movie store every day and speaks to that specific mannequin... FRED SPECIFICALLY Even during broad daylight.... 14:52 the mannequin does move it's head. The director does this to show that Dr. Neville is slowly losing his mind. The mannequin was put there by infected because, as you stated yourselves, the infected are more like vampire's than zombies. They're still intelligent.

The other ending makes more sense with the name of the movie and has more of an effect to the role that will took with this movie but i like this movie overall
This ending makes perfect sense with the addition of the missing 30-35 minutes that can only be found in the expensive collector's edition DVD version. Exploring much more of characters, environment, discussions and questions about God and mans role throughout history. Will's characters lack of faith in God, which eventually leads up to his explosive scene "There is no god!". We also have more of Sam chasing a butterfly in the cornfield, aswel as a more in-depth look at the virus.

NEVER, the new ending was made because the movie was succefull in theaters (they dindt expect that) but they killed the main character so kinda har dto do a sequel, ence the new ending.
This interpretation was interesting as far as the "dark-seekers" go. The original book (Richard Matheson was the author) has them as vampires: Garlic, silver, wooden stakes, the whole shabang. This had them more as forced-evolution hunters. The second (the scrapped) ending is truer to the original. The vampires in the book are VERY much so mentally intact, just as they were when human. They're made to be demons in this, almost. Second ending has Neville being alive by giving the now-cured woman back to her "group" and the "pack leader", who seems to be the woman's "mate", if you will. Everyone walks away after, human or otherwise.
The book depicts the story through the infected, shows that the Doc was the "boogy man"(so to speak). They were told a story of a guy snatching ppl up during the day(there night, basically).

There was the Game, The Last of Us, where it had this concept of what if the word was taken by fungus. But Since both of you won't be playing the game. In the book Smith's character is the only human left in a world FULL of vampires. He goes out during the day, when they are sleep, and he kills them. HE is the vampire's equivalent of Dracula. Therefore HE becomes a 'LEGEND' that they fear.

The creatures have a sped up metabolism which gives them extreme speed and strength. Downside is they have to eat all the time to fuel the new metabolism. Which is why the infected turned to cannibalism. They also have no body hair or melatonin to block out the suns ultraviolent rays
The original theatric ending is better in that, even though Will's character dies, it speaks to his ultimate sacrifice and makdes the title of the project even more profound. Him fighting until the end makes for a better legend.

It would probably help to know that they aren't actually zombies. Zombies are dead and reanimated. These guys have heartbeats and respiration. They can think. They are more like vampires than anything else.

Where did you see this movie? I really liked that they chose to go with the happy ending on the version you saw, its much better than the original one. But most people don't know about this ending. I myself only found out there is a happy ending after going into the extras on the dvd. In the original ending he cured the sick girl, he tried to reason with the head monster, it doesn't work. The monster then made it through the glass and the whole room explodes. Only the boy and the woman survived, they drove off and found a Colony where people are well, who welcomed them in. Its much more grim, the only upside is that alot of people outside of New York survived. The ending you watched is so much better, implying that there is still hope for the monsters and they are intelligent enough to be saved and keeping the mystery up if the rest of the world is fine or not
I believe others have mentioned this but the version you watched was the ALTERNATE ending. The actual ending (the one experienced in theaters) goes much differently and I suggest you watch it that way :)

The theatrical version had that the infected (they're not exactly vampires like in the novel) are still intelligent enough but are slowly losing it more and more. In the alternate ending, the infected originally began as uncontrollable monsters who had no sense of intelligence, until 3 years after the outbreak when they began to redevelop human intelligence and understanding.

This ending was on the DVD release. But this ending is what's considered canon now, and they are making I Am Legend 2 that continues from this ending.

This ending is canon, and tells more of the story that the book conveyed. in the book, it is revealed that the dark seekers are essentially just the new race of humans. The dark seekers saw Will Smith's character as a sort of Boogeyman who stole their people while they were asleep in the day. Hence the name "I Am Legend".
I always liked this ending better personally.

All I remember from this 2007 movie is the Batman vs Superman billboard and almost 10 years later(2016) it became an actual movie.

Where Neville realizes that he is the one seen as a monster. Because he is the only human on Earth.
Everyone is a vampire, and Neville is the mythical monster hunting them during the day.
It’s basically just like how we see vampires as scary predators. Except that Neville is the predator here.
He is a legendary figure for them. Hence the title “I Am Legend”.

14:52 the mannequin does move it's head. The director does this to show that Dr. Neville is slowly losing his mind. The mannequin was put there by infected because, as you stated yourselves, the infected are more like vampire's than zombies. They're still intelligent.

The other ending makes more sense with the name of the movie and has more of an effect to the role that will took with this movie but i like this movie overall
This ending makes perfect sense with the addition of the missing 30-35 minutes that can only be found in the expensive collector's edition DVD version. Exploring much more of characters, environment, discussions and questions about God and mans role throughout history. Will's characters lack of faith in God, which eventually leads up to his explosive scene "There is no god!". We also have more of Sam chasing a butterfly in the cornfield, aswel as a more in-depth look at the virus.

NEVER, the new ending was made because the movie was succefull in theaters (they dindt expect that) but they killed the main character so kinda har dto do a sequel, ence the new ending.

This interpretation was interesting as far as the "dark-seekers" go. The original book (Richard Matheson was the author) has them as vampires: Garlic, silver, wooden stakes, the whole shabang.
This had them more as forced-evolution hunters.
The second (the scrapped) ending is truer to the original. The vampires in the book are VERY much so mentally intact, just as they were when human.
They're made to be demons in this, almost.
Second ending has Neville being alive by giving the now-cured woman back to her "group" and the "pack leader", who seems to be the woman's "mate", if you will.
Everyone walks away after, human or otherwise.

The book depicts the story through the infected, shows that the Doc was the "boogy man"(so to speak). They were told a story of a guy snatching ppl up during the day(there night, basically).

In the book Smith's character is the only human left in a world FULL of vampires. He goes out during the day, when they are sleep, and he kills them. HE is the vampire's equivalent of Dracula. Therefore HE becomes a 'LEGEND' that they fear.

The creatures have a sped up metabolism which gives them extreme speed and strength. Downside is they have to eat all the time to fuel the new metabolism. Which is why the infected turned to cannibalism. They also have no body hair or melatonin to block out the suns ultraviolent rays

The original theatric ending is better in that, even though Will's character dies, it speaks to his ultimate sacrifice and makdes the title of the project even more profound. Him fighting until the end makes for a better legend.

It would probably help to know that they aren't actually zombies. Zombies are dead and reanimated. These guys have heartbeats and respiration. They can think. They are more like vampires than anything else.

Where did you see this movie? I really liked that they chose to go with the happy ending on the version you saw, its much better than the original one. But most people don't know about this ending. I myself only found out there is a happy ending after going into the extras on the dvd.
In the original ending he cured the sick girl, he tried to reason with the head monster, it doesn't work. The monster then made it through the glass and the whole room explodes. Only the boy and the woman survived, they drove off and found a Colony where people are well, who welcomed them in. Its much more grim, the only upside is that alot of people outside of New York survived. The ending you watched is so much better, implying that there is still hope for the monsters and they are intelligent enough to be saved and keeping the mystery up if the rest of the world is fine or not

I believe others have mentioned this but the version you watched was the ALTERNATE ending. The actual ending (the one experienced in theaters) goes much differently and I suggest you watch it that way :)
