Love it, we have a Onion farmer close to where i live, and the smell EVERYWHERE when they are harvested is amazing, i get hungry just driving by. Some years, i also got the feeling he is cutting a little close, because everybody's eyes in the area are watery :D But still have the smell everywhere of fresh onions.
My favourite onion is spring onions rough chopped in a salad topped with sesame seeds and a glass of just iced water so I can enjoy the various flavours of greens that send my palate soaring
First the haulm is removed (sucked up and cut off). The outer rows are ploughed out of the ground so the wheels have space to run on. Then the middle rows plus the dirt is lifted by the rear harvester, cleaned and swathed.
Question: how are all onions picked up without being damaged? Are onions always seeded it this big rows of 12? And how are all sorted and dried to prevent mold from spreading from one onion to another? I hope that i'm not asking stupid questions and hat u can answer them.
These are not stupid questions. They can be drilled in different configurations. It is quite uncommon drilling one large bed with 12 rows. They will be left in the swath for a few days and then loaded up to be stored in bulk or boxes. They are dried with hot air so diseases can't spread.
Deutz-Fahr tractors look so cool

Great Video and Machine👍

So the front trims and scalps the soil and the back sifts the onions out of the dirt and places them on top for pickup??

Agrifoto, are these young onions 4 months old or 6 months, reason i ask , is the size of the onions, look younger that what we produce.
These are sown in early April and harvested in September it is a full grown crop.
