- After a small break (though it's the first time I've taken so long to upload a new video since I created this channel 😊), here is a new video featuring a new Roland Boutique synth: the JD-08!
This digital synth is renewing the famous Roland JD-800 from 1991! The JD-08 is a 128-voice synth, with 2 parts. Each part has 4 layers (each layer can be considered as being a full synth, with its own waveform, filter, envelopes etc.). So it has enough power to create some nice sounds and textures!
So for this video, the JD-08 is playing a chimes sound (sequenced by track 4 of the Keystep Pro) and a string sound (played live). The bass is sequenced by track 2 of the Keystep Pro. As for the drums, they are coming from the TR-6S (sequenced by its internal sequencer).
* Hardware used *
- Roland JD-08 : Chimes & Strings
- Roland JU-06A : Bass
- Roland TR-6S: Drums
- Arturia Keystep Pro: sequencer

Thanks!
@2-Minute Warning.
super cool!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏😃
This is such a great tune. The bass and drums are so killer!
Hey thanks Alex, glad you enjoyed it! 😃🙏
Sick tune!!
Thanks for your nice comment Judd! 😃
It is Hit !
Appreciate this new feedback, thanks! 😊
Very niiice!! It's so fun to watch someone who has (almost) the same set up of gear as myself, and see what music they create with it. Love the 80's vibe you got going here!
Haha, thanks for your kind words! Just subscribed to your channel, some very cool music videos there! 🤘😃👍

Dawless setup are so fun! I have somthimg simular to. Keystep pro, roland t-8, S-1 and JP-08 and a Minifreak. What do you guys use to film? I get realy bad audio and video quality when I rec with my cellphone.
@@7shawnmartin7 try using P2/P3 cable sending the master directly into your phone (TRRS input), this will make your cellphone use the audio received via the cable as the audio source for the video...I did this recording my Synth
Love this feeling to fly over clouds 🎶👍
Thanks for your kind words KRickMuzik ! 🙏
Quel retour ! J'adore. Merci.
Merci beaucoup mon ami, je suis content d'avoir repris les posts de nouvelles vidéos du coup! 🤗
Beautiful music and stellar presentation. You are a master!
Wow, thank so much you Peter! 😊
Just consistently knocking it out of the park
Hey thanks so much Peter for the kind words! 🤗
That is some killer bass and drums! Great stuff here.
Thanks for the nice feedback Jay! Always a pleasure to read you here 🤗
Really nice how the JU-06A and the drums kick in!
Thanks Daniel for the nice feedback! 😃
@@2MinuteWarning Incroyable, un grand bravo!
@@gronbeat Merci Gron Beat, heureux que cela t'ai plu! 😀🙏
Really nice! Great tune and job!!
Thanks for the informative text inputs.
Hey thanks Mats, appreciate your feedback! 😃
Great trio of synths ,perfect for this cool synthwave number , i cant seem to get to grips with my beatstep pro , i really should have gone for the wonderful keystep pro 😬🥺😉👍jaffa
Thanks Jaffa for your comment 🙏 I have both: the Beatstep Pro and Keystep Pro, but since I've got the Keystep Pro, I quite stopped using the Beatstep Pro ☺
dope
Glad you enjoyed it boombap! 😃
Sounds fantastic.
Thanks for the nice feedback 🙏
Brilliant!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏😃
This is 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for your nice feedback 🙏😃
A w e s o m e J a m !!
Thanks for your feedback! 😃🙏
Gold!
Thanks, glad you like it Joe! 😃👍
Awesome Roland Jam! Welcome back!
Many thanks Patrick! The channel just celebrated its 3rd anniversary and I was asking to myself for how long I'll continue maintaining it alive. All the nice feedback I got for this video encourages me to keep it on 😊
@@2MinuteWarning I always look forward to the videos. They are a source of inspiration, education and fun music. Thanks for all your efforts and congratulations on 2 years of 2 Minute Warning!
@@patrickhowes5833 Thanks for your long time support, really appreciate it 🤗
cool song ✌️👍👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Good stuff.
Thanks for your feedback Ul!i 😃🙏
Welcome back!
Thanks Bro 🤗
Nice.Very nice.Very,very nice.Krakatoa lawn mower - that's hotter than a fire in a tumble dryer.Well played batman !
Haha, glad you enjoyed it! 😄
Wow I loved this. I have the three synths you have (just got the jd-08) but I don’t have that cool Arturia. I love the way you can make it so full by recording all those different sounds. You are really talented !! Nice job just subbed p
Thanks so much for your comment and support Maria 😃🙏These 3 are surely a very nice combo! And the Keystep Pro, even if it only has 4 tracks, is very cool and handy for live performances (I didn't use it here, but I did on other videos: I really like to use its "transpose patterns within scale" feature 🤩)
@@2MinuteWarningI thought I saw you playing it here lol. Yeah I playing it now. Unless this is a different keyboard (with all the colors and tracks? )
Love this either way 😅
@@MariaCalfaDePaul Sorry I wasn't clear enough in my reply ☺ I meant that I have not used the "transpose within scale" feature in this video but in other videos like these ones:

ua-cam.com/video/gz4r2MX1yt8/v-deo.html

(I surely did use the Keystep Pro here 😁)
@@2MinuteWarning ahhh cool beans thanks !!
@@2MinuteWarning Is it necessary to use so much equipment to write such a track or can you do the same thing with only one, for example, will KeyLab MkII 61 be enough?
And do I understand correctly that you recorded many of the melodies here in advance, and in this video you played them one by one along the way to get one whole? That is, this cannot be performed live, without preliminary preparation and pre-recorded parts?
I would just like to buy just one tool and try to create something similar. Therefore, the question is whether this is possible and what kind of tool it should be. Thank you.
That’s fun! What drum kit did you use?
Hey glad you enjoyed it! 😃 I really enjoy using the modeling (ACB) or FM engine of the TR-6S, but for this time, I used a couple of user samples (BD, SD, LT) and factory sounds (HC, CH, OH).
What is the yellow midi cable from the Arturia connected to? I’m trying to figure out how this is chained to arturia with only one midi connection?
Hi, the yellow cable is an USB cable connected to my DAW which is acting like a MIDI hub here. From my DAW goes the red and blue 5-PIN DIN MIDI cables going into the JU-06A and JD-08 respectively. Hope this helps? 😉 (could also have connected the 5-DIN cables to the Keystep Pro directly)
Hola, una consulta, como sincronizas todos los aparatos?
Hello, I'm sorry I don't speak spanish, but I think I understood your question 😉 There are different ways you can sync the instruments. In this video, it's only the Keystep Pro (keyboard controller sequencer ) and TR-6S (drum machine) which are being synchronised. I haven't used the internal sequencer of the JU-06A (bass) and JD-08 (strings & chimes), which are being sequenced from the Keystep Pro.
Here, it is my DAW which is acting as the master clock, thus synchronising the Keystep Pro and TR-6S. Otherwise, you can just use a simple MIDI cable from the Keystep Pro to the MIDI IN of the TR-6S, it also works 😀
Can the keystep save and send program changes messages to change patches on the Rolands?
I haven't tried it yet, but since the Nov. 2023 update of the Keystep Pro, it can send program changes on a per pattern basis for each track 😉
Could you explain the way you're connecting the roland modules to the keystep?
Hi, there a few ways you can connect the modules to the Keystep, the more obvious one being with standard 5-pin MIDI cables going from MIDI OUT of the KSP to the MIDI IN of one module and then daisy chaining it to another modules.
However in this video, I used my DAW as a MIDI hub. So the KSP is connected by USB to my DAW and then my DAW which has 2 5-DIN MIDI ports, is going into the JU-06A and the JD-08. The TR-6S is MIDI connected to my DAW by USB. I didn't use daisy chain here.
Hope it helps? 😉
Sweet music! Nice! I am thinking about getting a Keystep. Is it possible to play Microtiming on the Tr 6s using the Keystep or does the
Tr 6s "obey" an internal sequencer only?
Glad you enjoyed it Saar Dean 😃 And yes it is possible to play microtiming on the TR-6S if you use an external sequencer as the Keystep Pro 😉
@@2MinuteWarning cool! Thank you for the info. And wishing you to stay healthy and creative
@@saardean4481 Thanks mate 🙏 So will you be getting a Keystep Pro? 😉 Wishing you all the best!
@@2MinuteWarning don't know yet if it will be a keystep or some other model but it will be an external sequencer for sure. The search just started
@@saardean4481 Oh I see 😉 Which kind of sequencer are you searching for? (with a keyboard, how many tracks, monophonic/polyphonic...?) Because I already did this search a while ago (and still watching the gear news as any self-respecting gearhead 😅) so maybe I could help a bit more 😉
I have a question, you send all audio to an audio mixer or how did you handle it ? thanks.
Yes, actually my sound card is acting as the mixer 😉
@@2MinuteWarning thanks for the reply, which mixer do you have? I am looking for one mixer but currently, I am a bit undecided.
Actually it's not really a mixer as I'm using my soundcard which is a RME Fireface UC (which has eight analog inputs) 😉
Have you looked at the 1010music Bluebox - 12 track mixer/recorder in a very small box.I also have the Yamaha MG10XU 10 track mixer/recorder.Also the Tascam Model12 is worth a look if you haven't sorted anything yet.
@@twiglet2214 thanks for your recommendation
How are you managing MIDI? I see the JU and the JD have MIDI cables connected so the rest must be USB, but what is managing the overall sync?
Hi, my DAW/soundcard (RME Fireface UC) is acting as the MIDI router and master clock. I record the audio in Ableton Live.
@@2MinuteWarning Thank you!
I'm going to dig out the KS Pro,dust it and de-rust it and let the sound flow ! It may sound a bit naughty but i'll spray WD40 to help ease the keys make a sound that will please and a chord that just can't be ignored - it's defo the knobbly bee's knees. Boom boom.
Hope the WD40 will help! 😁
@@2MinuteWarning Oil let you know !
Good one 😂👍
Huge video! I see MIDI IN/OUT going out of the screen, maybe did you use a MIDI box to connect them?
Thanks! 😃 Indeed my DAW /soundcard is acting like the MIDI hub here 😉 (I'm using USB to MIDI connect the Keystep Pro and TR-6S, and using MIDI 5-PIN DIN cables to connect the JU-06A and JD-08 to my DAW)
@@2MinuteWarninggreat job! What pattern of Roland Drum did you use?
@@ZaoFuneralOfGod Home made pattern and kit as usual 😉
@@2MinuteWarning so did you import external drum sounds or use and work the Roland drum kit creating your personal pattern?
@@ZaoFuneralOfGod I really like using the ACB engine of the TR-6S but as far as I remember for this one, I imported the kick and snare samples for this one (however the hats are from the ACB engine: 707 for closed hat and 606 for the open hat 😉)
