I just know that after all of those years using that negative review as a whip, Joan was moved by that positive review. I think Rain is indeed one of Crawford’s finest performances. I hope Walker’s words helped change her mind.
This was one of the first Joan Crawford movies I ever saw. I was shocked at how modern her performance was. I absolutely believed the dramatic transformation her character went through. It was a very sincere performance and she was the perfect opponent to Walter Houston. I think Walker was right to say that she was ahead of her time. Crawford was one of the few actresses of the early talkies who didn’t come from the stage and so she learned a more natural style of acting for the camera. Critics were more accustomed to exaggerated theatrics from actors in the early 30s.
I had never heard this interview. How fascinating! I personally find Joan's Sadie Thompson to be one of her most compelling characters. That monologue she unleashes against the Reverend Davidson is one hell of a barn burner. ❤❤
I think she gave a very real performance loved her in this you reall feel for the charater ,the only thing i didnt like was the makeup was really harsh ,that was ultra whore !
What do you think of Rain? The full movie is posted on UA-cam!
I love the movie
@@Jim_Stark Joan Crawford is great in Rain as she is in most of her films. Fascinating actress! I never tire watching her movies.
You can hear the joy and emotions when she said " He's a very nice man." Such a brilliant women!
Joan was AMAZING in Rain! It's a shame it didn't do well

It's one of her very, very best films. I was so glad to get it when it came out on blu-ray for the first time last year.
JC really did an excellent job in this film!! I don't understand why it might not have done well, but I was impressed!!!

Wow! She is a real CLASS act. And I’m not even a fan.
Kim Novak's Judy Barton in Vertigo was a direct channeling of Joan's Sadie.
Crawford is excellent in Rain. The actors give dated performances.
