Hi, can you run this with a midi controller (in and out) attach to the keyboard? because i think the manual says that you cannot connect a midi usb and a midi in/out at the same time but i don't know if this apply to this program
I never read this in the manual. VR '5-pin' and usb-midi are working 'in parallel' : while connecing a laptop with ctrlr editor to usb-midi, you can connect a midi controller to 5--pin midi. Note that VR does not 'midi-thru' (from 5-pin to usb and vice versa): if you want to use the controller to both controll VR and things on your laptop, you have to run it first into the laptop, then forward it to VR (usb-only)
Hi again, I have the Roland VR-09 and an 88-key MIDI piano/controller connected to the Roland via MIDI In and MIDI Out (when I play it, the Roland's sounds are triggered). My question is, can I use this software to edit the zones so that, for example, there is one or two patches for the 88-key keyboard and another patch for the Roland keyboard? And if so, how do I do it?
yes, that works: (A) you can do this without the editor by sole VR means: you have to go into VR menu MIDI, then scroll to 'Midi Mode' and set to 'Keyboard', then activate 'split'. The Midi Mode 'keyboard' is an elegant way to attach any midi keyboard as lower manual (it's primary purpose is to use VR as a '2-manual' organ). All notes from the controller (independently from the channel you use on the controller) are send to VR 'lower manual'. Now you can load a sound to VR upper manual and one to lower manual (which is the controller), use VR tonewheel as 2-manual organ etc. -- (B) if you use the editor, things start to flow: you can layer up to 4 sounds on upper manual and 3 on lower (or 3 on upper and 4 on lower) - you can e.g create up to 3 split zones on your controller with a total of 6 sounds etc. Additionally Editor allows you to use several hundrets of 'hidden sounds', apply filter/envelope (to most of) 'parts', use hidden addtional effects (hidden reverb types, delay types etc) Multi-split/multy-layer/hidden-sounds etc configurations can entirely be saved to VR registrations. With editor set VR back to to Midi Mode 2, undo split. Set your controller 'zones' to channel 3 for 'VR lower manual zone'. 2 vor 'VR bass zone' and 1 vor 'VR solo zone' (solo is particular: you can add it to upper zone, lower zone or use a seperate zone) Then use editor and simply load sounds into each zone - with several 'parts' per zone. These multi-layers are extremely useful for creating e.g. fat brass or string patches. Example: my 'standard solo sax' patch has layered the "N.Alto Sax" and the hidden "Atelier Alto Sax Ex" (+ D-beam N.-modulation + pitch lever etc) - and it sounds like a real one. Brass ensemble ('big band') patches use all 4 possible layers of upper or lower manual. etc etc etc etc. -- (C) Now there's a third 'method' to engage the controller: you can use it to play "VR hidden GM" sounds: this is VRs 'internal GM-engine' - and this is huge: it combines ALL factory and hidden sounds and adds ca. 2000 more sounds, e.g. the entire GM2 libraray from latest Roland Sound-Canvas modules. Principally you can split the controller in up to 16 zones: zones for GM patches, zones for 'VR patches' etc. Or create a collossal layer of 24 patches (+ organ :)) -- so if you're fine with the 'factory sound capabilties' of your VR, use method (A). if you take the effort to dig into editor (you must be ready to learn) to exploit the world of VR hidden features you won't recognise your VR anymore ;) BTW: the editor in the video is a very old version. The actual release is massively different and has all the features "discovered" since : multi-layers, multi-zones, the GM2 sound canvas etc etc etc etc

what do you mean with 'ethnic sounds'? There are some asian percussion and ethnic 'guitar' sounds, you'd need the computer/editor to access them and save to registrations - once done, the registrations can be used without computer

Higgy - thanks for all the work you've done on this. I just got my VR09 and after a week of learning my way around the keyboard itself, hope to try the editor later today. I am curious. If I use the editor to save a GM2 voice (as an example) to a registration, can I later access that sound with no external hardware connections? And if I do need some hardware connection, what's the minimum? Does a midi cable run from out to in (with local disabled?) do it? Thanks again!
*) Saving GM2-voices: saving to the VR09 'onboard' registrations is not possible (this is a VR09 restriction). They can only be accessed with the Editor and saved to the 'Editor-registrations'. *) Playing GM2-voices: yes, you can plug a standard 5-pin (DIN) Midi cable from VR09 MIDI-OUT to IN, then change the upper/lower TX-Channel (VR09 Menu -> MIDI) to any channel (e.g. channel 6) and play the GM2-sound that you have set with the Editor for this channel. As the TX only sends to one channel, only one GM2-sound (per manual) can be played. If you want to simultanously play multiple channels (each with a GM2-sound) you have to use a hardware channel multiplexer or setup the loopback-midi chain on your PC as described in the other video or the documentation. Of course, any external midi keyboard will also work. But in either the case you'll need the editor to select (and eventually modify !) the sounds. If it's not clear what I'm trying to explain or if you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask :)

@@pianomanpaulthomas Hello, don't forget, all the other extra sounds (Atelier, GM2-'like' extra sounds, a few hundreds) can be saved to the VR registrations. The Editor also extends the multitimbrality to 3 lower and 4 upper voices (+ organ), and this multitimbrality is entirely saved to the VR registrations and recallable without Editor. This hopefully reduces a bit your deception :) In the (far) future the editor shall get a full registration on it's own, including (then unrestricted) space for the synth-modded sounds + GM2-sounds etc. in order to explace/extend the VR-registrations.

Hi ALL, first I'd like to tell you that I've subscribe to CTRLR, then Idid download: CTRLR, CopperLine, Transmidifier, V-Combo editor. I've got some different things. For example: EDITOR panel doesn't appear the V Keybord - setting up Transmidifier, at the end of setting, I can't see all the settings with color zone as in your tutorial. When i switch on my PC all the setting where lost....why..can you tell me where I fail my setting, and suggest me the right solution? 1) Editor: the editor has massively evolved since the videos were made (YT does not allow updating videos). Please get the lastest release from drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1-b8H_k9iyuWwrCm2gsX-9guoV9zg7lPT (panel or exe file). After starting the editor, click the 'v1.12.12 README' button in the left bottom corner and use the built-in Quickhelps + Info buttons to get used to the editor. 2) TransMidiFier: you can set the colours how you like , they are configurable using Transmidifier menus. 3) Lost settings: which ones, those of TransMidiFier?

@@marcomarcellotrazzi7680 yeah, as said, the editor has evolved and improved since 1.12.4 ... switch to PANEL 'SOUND', then go to tab 'sound explorer' - there you find the VR sound sections 'piano/synth/drum' of the former V-keyboard tab + identified extra sounds. The overview of sounds had been dropped, the sound names are shown in the voice swichtes at the top of the panel. Use the 'expert/novice' toggle switch in the left menu bar to show the info [?] buttons - click on the buttons to open the info/help text windows....
I need help! I have loaded the VR-09 controller. I see the controller but the panel does not talk to my VR-09. I went through all the set ups. What am I doing wrong? I did notice that I never see the "Midi Yoke" but I do see the VR-09. I'm running a Mac Pro
MidiYoke is an additional software for MS-Windows for setting up 'virtual midi ports' . Virtual midi ports are necessary if you want to connect more than one application to the VR09 on a Windows OS. You do not need virtual ports on OSX or Linux. Connect the panel and any other software directly to the VR midi in/out port. Does this work?

With the editor load ATELIER/piano "AEx PianoStr" to UM1-VCE (this voice suppresses the string part), use attack, delay, cutoff, 'tone' etc. to bring it near a CP-80. Another sound going a bit in the direction of a CP is pch-msb-lsb 02-36-00 (= bank "36-AC-SYNTH", sound 1-3) on SOUNDEXPLORER. Mellotrone - no idea (did not examine all of the 2000 sounds ).
Hi, it seems amazing, I launched it yesterday for vr09b. However I noticed 2 issues. When I use supernatural sounds from atelier, different than originally placed in the synthesizer, n.control at d-beam doesn't work, nothing happens. Second case, some of the instruments seem to be exactly the same as some others, nothing changes after switching. Are the issues normal or I can fix it somehow?
sorry for the late answer. It's normal and cannot be fixed yet (maybe one day I find 'hidden tricks' for fixing it ;) ) N.control does not work on Atelier sounds (albeit the decision was to use the naming scheme of the original ATELIERs categories). Some sounds are 'dublicates'. It would be a man-month work to sort them out (the editor is 'free time development' and took already thousands of hours of work... ;))

Great app! I just downloaded the newest version and the new UPG-Editor section is absolutely dynamite! The one issue I had was with the synthesizer tab. I edited the JP8 Brass preset sound and saved it to a registration. What I did not realize is that this actually changed the internal preset. I thought that restarting the keyboard would bring it back to the original sound, but it didn't and I had to do a factory reset to get the original JP8 Brass sound back. Could you share some details on what the Synthesizer tab actually does? Thanks.
Hi Dominick, this a known 'bug' of the VR. In firmware v1.11 Roland added the possibilty to reset each individual sound instead of the whole VR (select sound + quick select button SYNTH + EXIT). Search also forums.musicplayer.com for 'VRSYN001.DAT' for details about this.
OK :) Tomorrow there will be a hotfix version 1.12(5) on the ctrlr website fixing a bug I just went to discover in the UPG-Editor (and adding 2 more multi timbre voices :))
so i downloaded everything i need and i'm in the editor but can't find my Keyboard (Roland VR-09) in the config menu i don't understand much of that MIDI stuff, is it something with that? i really need you'r help :D
which opserin system are running? Windows 10? restart your PC, connect PC and VR with the correct cable (rectangular USB-B socket at the rear side of VR) , switch VR on, then start CTRL with the editor. Roland VR should appear in the dropdowns of the Midi-config window. Select for 'IN" and 'OUT'

Hi, the VR does not provide PC access to the 'internal registrations'. So the procedure is as follows: Save the actual registration set to an USB thumb drive (in the USB box on the right side of the VR) using the standard VR procedure Remove the drive from the VR and plug it to your PC. Load the file to the VR Editor, edit the reg list (you can also merge registrations from 2 files into one) and save it back (to an other filename) to the drive. Remove the drive, plug it to the VR and load the registration set to the VR. These steps are listed in the text box on the right upper side of the 'UPG editor' panel of the VR Editor. See also the VR Editor manual
if you're running Windoes 10 it should be plug and play , simple usb 'printer cable'. reboot PC and VR, connect both, start editor, open editors midi settings, the Roland midi port should show up in input and output select list

Where can I find the mac OS Version of this editor.... it looks Amazing and Ive been waiting for a Computer Based editor for Ages as its Simply impossible to edit the Synth Engine to any degree without an iPad which I was Just about to finally have to buy out of sheer desperation.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although giving the Saw 1 patch a descent mount of attack and the odd bit of vibrato from the Mod trigger Does Sound Amazing.......!!!!!!!!!!!!! especially the way the LFO speeds up along with the depth the more You rinse out the mod trigger...... But unfortunately that seems to be as far as it goes without something else to edit it........ Anyway when I followed the link to the download and info page the download file only contained exec files....... doh...... :( as Like I said id So like to be able to actually use the Synth engine in my VR-09 as with some kind of editor it really sounds like it'll do the business if you can actually get to it and this one looks So much better than the iPad one as well...... but why couldn't Roland have made a daw editor in the first place like everything else as it'd be much cheaper and better to have a midi controller to tweak it in real time but just to be able to program it would be Amazing as opposed to not; apart from just opening the filter and half of the envelope is just infuriating :( Any Help would be So much Appreciated Thanks So much to anyone who can help or post a link Chris :)
Hi Chris, for OSX you can either download the V-COMBO EDITOR MANUAL and follow it's install instructions (as we used to say in old days: rtfm ;)) or download & install the CTRLR platform ctrlr.org/nightly/Ctrlr-5.3.198.dmg , then download the latest EDITOR or/and SYNTH panel from the webpages given in the description above (download is a zip-file that contains a platform independent *.bpanelz panel-file). Launch CTRLR on your Mac, load one *bpanelz (never both at same time) to it, set Midi in/out. That's it.

Hello David, did you first install the CTRLR platform from ctrlr.org? The .bpanelz file has to be loaded into the CTRLR platform. Instead of explicitly installing the platform, you can download and run www.rrr.de/~franky/upload/V-ComboEditor.exe.
Many thanks higgy77 up and running. Did not realise that I had to upload bpanelz to CTLR. As an aside on the UPG section I am unable to get any sound from the brass section.
with the recent editor version. The video shows an old development (YT does not allow to update videos), recent editor version has 'hacked' more hidden VR-features: you can split VR keybed in up to 4 zones (distinct or overlapping). Zones can layer 1-4 voices (the number depends on the 'zone configuration'). In total VR has 9 'voices' (for piano, synths etc, distributed along the 4 zones) plus 3 organ parts (upper/lower/bass). This all saves to VR registrations: after programming and saving you can use it independently from PC/laptop/tablet. Please consult the 'v-combo editor' website and the images (at first moment it's overwelming - but it's worth the efford ;) )

After physically connecting the VR to the PC/Laptop with the USB-cable (cable type often used with printers), you can play around with the editor. What is this?. This video has no sound. And when I try to download this combo editor, no shorcut, no icon is displayed. How does it work?. It is replace the original VR driver or what?. No manual. No PDF file. Very mysterious.
This is a short 'howto' online video for the VR Editor. Why sound? Your VR makes the sound, doesn't it? If you look for Synth sound examples look at the end of the 'V-Combo SYNTH' video. If you read the ctrlr.org download page you'll find the link to the manual (thanfully written by one of the users of the Editor). If you install the software like explained in the manual (or this video), you'll find icons (in the Win start menu) What is an 'original VR driver'? There is no "VR driver" and never has been. So, a part your comments, nothing misterious. Please ask serious questions and don't waist time with trolling.
NEW: HOTFIX release v1.12.23 : This major hotfix fixes V-SYNTH 'per partial' controllers (faders, pots) : due to a 'programming mistake' made in release v1.12.20 the controllers were sending 'data chaos'. If you're using 'V-SYNTH' this hotfix is a mandatory update to all editors v1.12.20/21/22 VSSD 'sound designer' was not affected by the bug

and about your editor, to this day I can put 5 sounds at the same time being an organ, and the others are free to choose! and 10 at the same time in split! Higgy, if I had your knowledge I would break the source code and release it to add other samplers but for some reason you haven't done that yet! But everything you did was really helpful! thanks !

Hacking firmware: indeed a 'tempting idea' (e.g. for exchanging the Grand samples for some 'smoother' ones ) - but it's not possible . experts hackers succeed in decrypting firmware of a couple of vintage keys, but todays keys are way too much protected. And even if, hacking and reverse-engineering firmware is highly illegal - publishing a hack of a product that's currently sold will 100% end in a lawsuit.

Hi Darin, no no no we never give up :) Others have no problems with the editor so it will also work for you :) Are you still stuck with the initial setup or do you have difficulties with the handling? Are you on Windows, Mac or Linux?
@@dmcnabb2226 ok, that's fine, so you already downloaded and installed the CTRLR platform software. You also downloaded the editor panel "zip" file (V-Combo09Editor_vblablala.zip) , right? Then you unpacked ('unzipped': this is a standard Windows procedure) the file to a defined windows folder, ok? In this folder you have a file called "V-Combo-SYNTH_1129.bpanelz" , ok? This is 'the editor panel': think of CTRLR like MS-Word with the panel-file corresponding to a document-file that you have to load into. Start CTRLR and select 'open panel' : in the opening file browser navigate to the folder where you unpacked the zip - file to! Once there, you select the "V-Combo-SYNTH_1129.bpanelz"-file - and here we are. An alternative method is to download the standalone program from drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-b8H_k9iyuWwrCm2gsX-9guoV9zg7lPT This starts the editor just by clicking on the exe file. Please report if you succeeded (I'll be back in ca. 10 hours because it's bed time now ;))
no, it's a Windows-10 tablet. The editor does NOT run on IOS (ipad/iphone) but on Windows. MacOS and Linux. BTW, the 'app' has radically evolved since those videos (design and MANY new hidden features of the VR ... ) v-combo.webspace.rocks/editor-vr09-730

(A) you can do this without the editor by sole VR means: you have to go into VR menu MIDI, then scroll to 'Midi Mode' and set to 'Keyboard', then activate 'split'.
The Midi Mode 'keyboard' is an elegant way to attach any midi keyboard as lower manual (it's primary purpose is to use VR as a '2-manual' organ).
All notes from the controller (independently from the channel you use on the controller) are send to VR 'lower manual'.
Now you can load a sound to VR upper manual and one to lower manual (which is the controller), use VR tonewheel as 2-manual organ etc.
--
(B) if you use the editor, things start to flow: you can layer up to 4 sounds on upper manual and 3 on lower (or 3 on upper and 4 on lower) - you can e.g create up to 3 split zones on your controller with a total of 6 sounds etc.
Additionally Editor allows you to use several hundrets of 'hidden sounds', apply filter/envelope (to most of) 'parts', use hidden addtional effects (hidden reverb types, delay types etc)
Multi-split/multy-layer/hidden-sounds etc configurations can entirely be saved to VR registrations.
With editor set VR back to to Midi Mode 2, undo split.
Set your controller 'zones' to channel 3 for 'VR lower manual zone'. 2 vor 'VR bass zone' and 1 vor 'VR solo zone' (solo is particular: you can add it to upper zone, lower zone or use a seperate zone)
Then use editor and simply load sounds into each zone - with several 'parts' per zone. These multi-layers are extremely useful for creating e.g. fat brass or string patches.
Example: my 'standard solo sax' patch has layered the "N.Alto Sax" and the hidden "Atelier Alto Sax Ex" (+ D-beam N.-modulation + pitch lever etc) - and it sounds like a real one. Brass ensemble ('big band') patches use all 4 possible layers of upper or lower manual. etc etc etc etc.

(C) Now there's a third 'method' to engage the controller: you can use it to play "VR hidden GM" sounds: this is VRs 'internal GM-engine' - and this is huge: it combines ALL factory and hidden sounds and adds ca. 2000 more sounds, e.g. the entire GM2 libraray from latest Roland Sound-Canvas modules. Principally you can split the controller in up to 16 zones: zones for GM patches, zones for 'VR patches' etc. Or create a collossal layer of 24 patches (+ organ :))

so if you're fine with the 'factory sound capabilties' of your VR, use method (A).
if you take the effort to dig into editor (you must be ready to learn) to exploit the world of VR hidden features you won't recognise your VR anymore ;)
BTW: the editor in the video is a very old version. The actual release is massively different and has all the features "discovered" since : multi-layers, multi-zones, the GM2 sound canvas etc etc etc etc

what do you mean with 'ethnic sounds'? There are some asian percussion and ethnic 'guitar' sounds, you'd need the computer/editor to access them and save to registrations - once done, the registrations can be used without computer

Higgy - thanks for all the work you've done on this. I just got my VR09 and after a week of learning my way around the keyboard itself, hope to try the editor later today. I am curious. If I use the editor to save a GM2 voice (as an example) to a registration, can I later access that sound with no external hardware connections? And if I do need some hardware connection, what's the minimum? Does a midi cable run from out to in (with local disabled?) do it? Thanks again!
*) Saving GM2-voices: saving to the VR09 'onboard' registrations is not possible (this is a VR09 restriction). They can only be accessed with the Editor and saved to the 'Editor-registrations'.
*) Playing GM2-voices: yes, you can plug a standard 5-pin (DIN) Midi cable from VR09 MIDI-OUT to IN, then change the upper/lower TX-Channel (VR09 Menu -> MIDI) to any channel (e.g. channel 6) and play the GM2-sound that you have set with the Editor for this channel. As the TX only sends to one channel, only one GM2-sound (per manual) can be played.
If you want to simultanously play multiple channels (each with a GM2-sound) you have to use a hardware channel multiplexer or setup the loopback-midi chain on your PC as described in the other video or the documentation.
Of course, any external midi keyboard will also work. But in either the case you'll need the editor to select (and eventually modify !) the sounds.

@@pianomanpaulthomas Hello, don't forget, all the other extra sounds (Atelier, GM2-'like' extra sounds, a few hundreds) can be saved to the VR registrations. The Editor also extends the multitimbrality to 3 lower and 4 upper voices (+ organ), and this multitimbrality is entirely saved to the VR registrations and recallable without Editor. This hopefully reduces a bit your deception :)
In the (far) future the editor shall get a full registration on it's own, including (then unrestricted) space for the synth-modded sounds + GM2-sounds etc. in order to explace/extend the VR-registrations.

Hi ALL, first I'd like to tell you that I've subscribe to CTRLR, then Idid download: CTRLR, CopperLine, Transmidifier, V-Combo editor. I've got some different things. For example: EDITOR panel doesn't appear the V Keybord - setting up Transmidifier, at the end of setting, I can't see all the settings with color zone as in your tutorial. When i switch on my PC all the setting where lost....why..can you tell me where I fail my setting, and suggest me the right solution? I think yu've done a great job, and I want to thank you to help all of us..

1) Editor: the editor has massively evolved since the videos were made (YT does not allow updating videos). Please get the lastest release from drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1-b8H_k9iyuWwrCm2gsX-9guoV9zg7lPT (panel or exe file). After starting the editor, click the 'v1.12.12 README' button in the left bottom corner and use the built-in Quickhelps + Info buttons to get used to the editor.
2) TransMidiFier: you can set the colours how you like , they are configurable using Transmidifier menus.
3) Lost settings: which ones, those of TransMidiFier?

@@marcomarcellotrazzi7680 yeah, as said, the editor has evolved and improved since 1.12.4 ... switch to PANEL 'SOUND', then go to tab 'sound explorer' - there you find the VR sound sections 'piano/synth/drum' of the former V-keyboard tab + identified extra sounds. The overview of sounds had been dropped, the sound names are shown in the voice swichtes at the top of the panel. Use the 'expert/novice' toggle switch in the left menu bar to show the info [?] buttons - click on the buttons to open the info/help text windows....

I see the controller but the panel does not talk to my VR-09. I went through all the set ups.
What am I doing wrong? I did notice that I never see the "Midi Yoke" but I do see the VR-09.
I'm running a Mac Pro
MidiYoke is an additional software for MS-Windows for setting up 'virtual midi ports' . Virtual midi ports are necessary if you want to connect more than one application to the VR09 on a Windows OS.
You do not need virtual ports on OSX or Linux.
Connect the panel and any other software directly to the VR midi in/out port.
Does this work?

With the editor load ATELIER/piano "AEx PianoStr" to UM1-VCE (this voice suppresses the string part), use attack, delay, cutoff, 'tone' etc. to bring it near a CP-80. Another sound going a bit in the direction of a CP is pch-msb-lsb 02-36-00 (= bank "36-AC-SYNTH", sound 1-3) on SOUNDEXPLORER.
Mellotrone - no idea (did not examine all of the 2000 sounds ).
Hi, it seems amazing, I launched it yesterday for vr09b. However I noticed 2 issues. When I use supernatural sounds from atelier, different than originally placed in the synthesizer, n.control at d-beam doesn't work, nothing happens. Second case, some of the instruments seem to be exactly the same as some others, nothing changes after switching. Are the issues normal or I can fix it somehow?
sorry for the late answer. It's normal and cannot be fixed yet (maybe one day I find 'hidden tricks' for fixing it ;) )
N.control does not work on Atelier sounds (albeit the decision was to use the naming scheme of the original ATELIERs categories).
Some sounds are 'dublicates'. It would be a man-month work to sort them out (the editor is 'free time development' and took already thousands of hours of work... ;))

Great app! I just downloaded the newest version and the new UPG-Editor section is absolutely dynamite! The one issue I had was with the synthesizer tab. I edited the JP8 Brass preset sound and saved it to a registration. What I did not realize is that this actually changed the internal preset. I thought that restarting the keyboard would bring it back to the original sound, but it didn't and I had to do a factory reset to get the original JP8 Brass sound back. Could you share some details on what the Synthesizer tab actually does? Thanks.
Hi Dominick, this a known 'bug' of the VR. In firmware v1.11 Roland added the possibilty to reset each individual sound instead of the whole VR (select sound + quick select button SYNTH + EXIT). Search also forums.musicplayer.com for 'VRSYN001.DAT' for details about this.

so i downloaded everything i need and i'm in the editor but can't find my Keyboard (Roland VR-09) in the config menu

restart your PC, connect PC and VR with the correct cable (rectangular USB-B socket at the rear side of VR) , switch VR on, then start CTRL with the editor. Roland VR should appear in the dropdowns of the Midi-config window. Select for 'IN" and 'OUT'

Hi,
the VR does not provide PC access to the 'internal registrations'. So the procedure is as follows:
Save the actual registration set to an USB thumb drive (in the USB box on the right side of the VR) using the standard VR procedure
Remove the drive from the VR and plug it to your PC.
Load the file to the VR Editor, edit the reg list (you can also merge registrations from 2 files into one) and save it back (to an other filename) to the drive.
Remove the drive, plug it to the VR and load the registration set to the VR.
These steps are listed in the text box on the right upper side of the 'UPG editor' panel of the VR Editor.

if you're running Windoes 10 it should be plug and play , simple usb 'printer cable'. reboot PC and VR, connect both, start editor, open editors midi settings, the Roland midi port should show up in input and output select list

Where can I find the mac OS Version of this editor.... it looks Amazing and Ive been waiting for a Computer Based editor for Ages as its Simply impossible to edit the Synth Engine to any degree without an iPad which I was Just about to finally have to buy out of sheer desperation.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although giving the Saw 1 patch a descent mount of attack and the odd bit of vibrato from the Mod trigger Does Sound Amazing.......!!!!!!!!!!!!! especially the way the LFO speeds up along with the depth the more You rinse out the mod trigger...... But unfortunately that seems to be as far as it goes without something else to edit it........ Anyway when I followed the link to the download and info page the download file only contained exec files....... doh...... :( as Like I said id So like to be able to actually use the Synth engine in my VR-09 as with some kind of editor it really sounds like it'll do the business if you can actually get to it and this one looks So much better than the iPad one as well...... but why couldn't Roland have made a daw editor in the first place like everything else as it'd be much cheaper and better to have a midi controller to tweak it in real time but just to be able to program it would be Amazing as opposed to not; apart from just opening the filter and half of the envelope is just infuriating :( Any Help would be So much Appreciated Thanks So much to anyone who can help or post a link Chris :)
Hi Chris, for OSX you can either download the V-COMBO EDITOR MANUAL and follow it's install instructions (as we used to say in old days: rtfm ;)) or download & install the CTRLR platform ctrlr.org/nightly/Ctrlr-5.3.198.dmg , then download the latest EDITOR or/and SYNTH panel from the webpages given in the description above (download is a zip-file that contains a platform independent *.bpanelz panel-file).
Launch CTRLR on your Mac, load one *bpanelz (never both at same time) to it, set Midi in/out. That's it.

Hello David, did you first install the CTRLR platform from ctrlr.org? The .bpanelz file has to be loaded into the CTRLR platform. Instead of explicitly installing the platform, you can download and run www.rrr.de/~franky/upload/V-ComboEditor.exe.

how to put 9 voices?
with the recent editor version. The video shows an old development (YT does not allow to update videos), recent editor version has 'hacked' more hidden VR-features: you can split VR keybed in up to 4 zones (distinct or overlapping). Zones can layer 1-4 voices (the number depends on the 'zone configuration'). In total VR has 9 'voices' (for piano, synths etc, distributed along the 4 zones) plus 3 organ parts (upper/lower/bass). This all saves to VR registrations: after programming and saving you can use it independently from PC/laptop/tablet.
Please consult the 'v-combo editor' website and the images (at first moment it's overwelming - but it's worth the efford ;) )

What is this?. This video has no sound. And when I try to download this combo editor, no shorcut, no icon is displayed. How does it work?. It is replace the original VR driver or what?. No manual. No PDF file. Very mysterious.
This is a short 'howto' online video for the VR Editor. Why sound? Your VR makes the sound, doesn't it? If you look for Synth sound examples look at the end of the 'V-Combo SYNTH' video.

If you install the software like explained in the manual (or this video), you'll find icons (in the Win start menu)

Hacking firmware: indeed a 'tempting idea' (e.g. for exchanging the Grand samples for some 'smoother' ones ) - but it's not possible . experts hackers succeed in decrypting firmware of a couple of vintage keys, but todays keys are way too much protected.
And even if, hacking and reverse-engineering firmware is highly illegal - publishing a hack of a product that's currently sold will 100% end in a lawsuit.
P.S: maybe one day Roland will release a VCombo with ZEN core for loading Roland vintage plugins :)

no no no we never give up :) Others have no problems with the editor so it will also work for you :)
Are you still stuck with the initial setup or do you have difficulties with the handling? Are you on Windows, Mac or Linux?

When I get to file - open panel, I get a list of demos
@@dmcnabb2226 ok, that's fine, so you already downloaded and installed the CTRLR platform software.
You also downloaded the editor panel "zip" file (V-Combo09Editor_vblablala.zip) , right?
Then you unpacked ('unzipped': this is a standard Windows procedure) the file to a defined windows folder, ok?
In this folder you have a file called "V-Combo-SYNTH_1129.bpanelz" , ok? This is 'the editor panel': think of CTRLR like MS-Word with the panel-file corresponding to a document-file that you have to load into.
Start CTRLR and select 'open panel' : in the opening file browser navigate to the folder where you unpacked the zip - file to! Once there, you select the "V-Combo-SYNTH_1129.bpanelz"-file - and here we are.
An alternative method is to download the standalone program from drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-b8H_k9iyuWwrCm2gsX-9guoV9zg7lPT
This starts the editor just by clicking on the exe file.

no, it's a Windows-10 tablet. The editor does NOT run on IOS (ipad/iphone) but on Windows. MacOS and Linux. BTW, the 'app' has radically evolved since those videos (design and MANY new hidden features of the VR ... ) v-combo.webspace.rocks/editor-vr09-730
