Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

George is an amazing guy. Was put in Japanese camps during WW2, fought for gay rights, represented Asia in Star Trek and yet, so down to Earth.

He would correct you and say it was an AMERICAN INTERNMENT CAMP, not a Japanese internment camp. I heard him on Howard Stern last year saying the same.

Just gonna leave this here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niihau_incident so people understand where the American people were mentally when they enacted internment, they basically saw a few Japanese Americans take the acid test and fail.. No one talks about it.

I love the fact that he's still so very much into it. A lot of actors who do a show or a movie with several sequels over years are often fed up with it and don't even want to talk about it.
I love that he's still so passionate about the ideas and message of the show. Not to mention he's funny and a great guy. :)

A million years ago I was at a convention in Ottawa that Mr. Takei spoke at. I have a Theatre BA, and was astounded to watch him stand up to speak. He breathed as if he was a properly trained Shakespearian actor. Diaphragm breathing! I had no idea he was a trained stage performer, I had just thought of him as "Sulu". Basically, having him perform on Star Trek was like taking a Triple Crown winning race horse and chaining him to a plow. I think that a lot of the "bridge team" were properly trained stage actors, which is why the characterisation was so good. Why else would the allure of that little sci-fi show last for so long?

George Takei is a hero to me. When I was young, I used to dream that he was my birth father. Wrong race, and always not into women, as far as I know, but a girl could dream and when you are adopted and having a bad day, sometimes you would think who you're birth parents might be. My adopted kids have done it too, and my birth children have told me they wished they had been put up for adopting in their teens. It's a common thing for adopted kids and now I know kids that come out of you and you raise. George and Nichelle Nicholsl where my absolute favorites.

He had a horrendous childhood and instead of feeling victimized and angry for the rest of his life, he embraced every moment and lived it up. Star Trek came on when I was a little girl. As a Native American, I was very sad, when I noticed that no NAs were in Star Trek, and had not survived to live in this future timeline.
Alas, I soon learned that the genocide of the indigenous peoples was commonplace, and according to Gene Roddenberry, many ethnic & races failed to make it onto Star Trek team diversity.

Roddenberry also hated bald white people, he made Sir Patrick Stewart wear a wig. He also hated continuity.

    • @ZipplyZane
      @ZipplyZane 7 років тому +6

No. Roddenberry did not make Sir Patrick wear a wig. He wore a wig because he though he had to get roles. Fortunately, someone told him to take it off.
Roddenberry did at first say that he thought the captain should be younger and not bald, but he changed his mind when he saw Sir Patrick's performance.
And, from then on, when people asked about him, saying "Why in the future would there not be a cure for baldness?" He would say "In the future, no one cares."

In the very first episode broadcast (The Man Trap), we see Uhura, a black woman, taking at various times helm, navigation, and the science station. Clearly, that was to make a point.

Matthew Leo Many might now know this but Uhura is 4th in command of the Enterprise and this turned a lot of stomach back in the day, some even demanded the network to cancel the show.
This is not entirely related but when I went to watch "The Martian", the guy sitting behind was angry at the fact that the a woman (Jessica Chastain) is the captain of the ship, saying that the movie is "too damn politically corrected". It boggles my mind.

I'm glad that he is doing well. After watching several interviews of him and Shatner I realize that the issue between them is very simple. Shatner simply was the star of the show and everyone else was supporting actors. Shatner was more concern with his own career and not everyone else on the show. Shatner said he really didn't even know George Takei outside of Star Trek.

Stephen being self-indulgent for his inner nerd is the best part of this show. Also he should keep that millenial hair, it's kinda superhawt.

George Takei doesn't think that Colbert knows about Vulcan mating habits?

I think Stephen mostly wanted to be on TV just to meet some of his Nerd idols and just geek out with them a life I dream to live one day

I love how nerdy Colbert is. I think he knows more about Trek than George!

I met George once. Then a while later, I remembered I wanted him to sign something. And he looked at me and said oh you're back yes I would love to sign that for you.
