$50 LIDL HAUL: a week of eating, cooking + recipes!

- Filmed in June 2023, this is the Lidl follow-up to our H Mart haul video. We shrunk our budget because--let's be honest--Lidl just isn't quite as exciting as H Mart is. I didn't find cacao fruit or gluten-free corn noodles that seem to be invincible against overcooking, nor mangosteen, shirataki, or natto, BUT we also spent about 67% less than we did at H Mart, so life is really just a series of trade-offs.
SPICE PLUG
If you want to buy the spices you see me use in this video, here's my Burlap & Barrel affiliate link you can click through (gets a 10% kickback to me but no discount to you): shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=127457...
I started working part-time with B&B earlier this year and have been enjoying learning more about spices, tasting tasty things, sharing 'em with friends :) Hope y'all do too.

I have to say, the live streams are good, but your edited videos are Supreme! I can't imagine how much time it takes to do all that editing, but it was BEYOND satisfying! OMG! And it was LONG AF! ❤❤❤Thane you so much June.
🙆🥰
@@thank9starsdid you delete a bunch of your videos? I feel like there were a lot I watched before that are missing
@@thatsnothow1015 you are probably thinking of the videos I did for Delish, another channel. I've been fired from that job but the videos still live on their page.
@@thank9stars thank you for replying. Yes that's what I was thinking of. I knew it was you just didn't know they were on a different page.
My favorite thing about watching you, June - especially the cooking videos - is that you buy random shit without a plan or much of preplanned ideas, and then just throw it together without care of whether or not it is a resemblance of a recipe and just try it, regardless of if you like it or not...and if you dont, you find different ways to cook or prepare it to give it snother chance. The creativity, spontaneity, and overall fuck it we're doing it attitude is why i love you so much. Grandma and Aaron are always treats to see here and there too.
For me it's the same. Plus a secret crush and the fact that a more charming chef doesn't exist. Worked with food for 20+ years and had my deep lows just like her.
Her use of adjectives to accurately describe the foods is unparalleled! And yes… so refreshing to see this done without a plan. Some budget food videos have way too much of a plan. Reality for me is always somewhere in between, so it’s great to see both ends of that spectrum.
So nice to see a budget cooking video again. I miss that super creativity of yours. Love the ode to mom.
This is the first time I’ve seen your channel since you were on delish. I was so happy that you’re still doing UA-cam. You inspire me to try new things.
Welcome back 🥳
my relationship of almost 6 years just ended and i am eating for the first time in 3 days while watching this. thank you.
My mom and me still go back and watch some of your budget videos so when I saw this I grabbed my mom and we watched this together. She was SO happy to see your face again!
Since you asked: It's a german store, so you'd pronounce it more like "leedl"
"lid-elle"
FINALLY I'VE MISSED BUDGET EATS! I genuinely miss your cooking show cause you were so great to put on and watch i dont see alot of cooking shows anymore with recipes and steps. Please do more of these ❤🙏🏻
I love that just as you never like to waste anything, your grandma has been giving you her unwanted milk. Very thoughtful.
Just wanted to say that at Lidl , the yellow price is what you would pay if you use the app.
Here it's just the discounted prices regardless of an app...
What does the app do?
@@msjkrameysell your information
@@MsRiaaa It depends, some are with the app and some aren't

I love how you are reusing the containers and bags that others would throw away without a thought. Thanks for the video 👍
🙆🌈🦝
I love the little moments like when she whisks eggs with chopsticks to remind us that you can do anything, no matter what fancy tools you may not have on hand.

I've got a soft spot for saffron, having grown up with it in all my favorite dishes and pastries. Couldn't help but notice you went straight in with the strands in your food; there's a little trick to getting the most out of this golden spice. Grinding it down to a powder first really unleashes its potential, boosting the color, flavor, and aroma to the next level, and you end up using less, which is a win given how precious saffron is. A splash of hot water post-grinding, and it transforms into this stunning deep red. Voilà!
Absolutely loving your content - keep up the fantastic work!❤
hey june! lidl is a german discounter super market (aldi too) and it is pronounced lee-dl! and yes lidl and aldi are competitors. i must say the prices seem quite high compared to the german prices, but lidl is also regarded here as the more expensive discounter store between the two. nonetheless, lidl and aldi are the go to stores for students in germany as the prices can be quite low (depending on your location in germany and ya know, inflation...) and you can get some good deals
Yeah, U.S. grocery prices are insane, but people also earn more than people in Germany (at least overall).
Yes, she was in New York, Astoria. It is expensive area. The taxes are higher also on products.
I thought the same about the prices😅In Germany Lidl is my go to discount supermarket. I think the fresh produce is always really good and they have an incredible vegan selection over here.
I've seen Lidl hauls from other parts of the country and thought this one seemed expensive. However, discount stores in Germany aren't only being visited by students. Everyone goes there, at least where I live.
@@1029bluethis isn't quite true; Germans earn more and are taxed highly. This ensures everyone will have healthcare that cannot bankrupt you, have safe roads and drivers, and ensure equitable access to public resources like free schools (universities first administrative fees of ~1k/year), etc.
i'm so glad this video randomly popped up in my recommended. i've been binging your content for a hot minute and i feel like watching your videos has really improved my cooking! i've been taking more risks and experimenting more and have made so many things i love. the way you're so open about yourself and your journey through life has also helped me heal and realise a lot about myself. i love everything you make. you've brought me so much healing and joy exactly when i needed it. thank you, june.
Yesssss budget eats video please do more this is my favourite cooking show
Been watching this video in bits and pieces during meals especially since I'm (reluctantly) back at work after the summer break this week. My ADHD meds suppress my appetite and I do not look forward to lunch anymore, but this just made my prepacked vegan daal feel really emotionally satisfying. Thank you, June :D
I love these style videos. They truly motivate me to get creative in the kitchen and use what I have no matter the weird combination.
I can't cook let alone get creative. I've tried and tried. I'm from the south so I fry chicken and make corn bread biscuits tho not very well and I can make pot. Salad. THTS it.
I enjoyed this vlog June❤️ It’s an ode to your budget days. But much better cuz it’s YOUR own channel🙌🏾‼️❤️❤️
Your grandmother is a national treasure and must be protected at all costs June
I'm blown away by how much more expensive Lidl is in America compared to Europe.
I love that as Chinese even from different countries, we both use chopstick to stir and mix things and we have the same ‘good work/workmen’ bowl - the super useful ones for both prep and eating - the blue and white ones with the Chinese character for work ( 工)and the bat symbol at all the four directions on the inner and outer rim.
It's amazing how this girl treats a bag of flour she makes everything 😊
yay for yucca! there's a recipe from a northern brazilian chef which starts from basically that yucca dough you made, then he adds grated cheese (the driest one available), spread in a pan and refrigerates until it's cuttable, then he cuts in rectangles and fries like french fries. your mozzarella sticks really reminded me a lot of it
It's really weird to see June always having various products from Lithuania lol. It started with that Aaron and Lithuanian cheese last year and now you can spot Lithuanian goods in almost every of June's videos, and I'm sure it's purely coincidental lol. Those Vici crabsticks and buckweat honey are both from Lithuania.
There is no one like you on UA-cam. I love watching your mind work with any ingredients you end up with.
I agree girl, cottage cheese is so underrated. Love your take on everything in this video. Keep doing these they are so good and awesome to watch. Take care June.
Watching this brought me so much joy, best way to entertain my brain while folding a weeks worth of laundry for a family of 4 (aka a TON of laundry). Thank you June!
The way you describe food is unmatched
My favorite foodie
You and Aaron are like a married couple, I’m very glad that the two of you remain close!
Did they break up?
Guess so - she said she’s single.
hi june ive been watxhing your videos since your very first budget eats video and i started binging your vids on this channel when i was starting to eat less (lowkey depresso) but seeing all of your creativity in the kitchen is so amazing and so inspirational, every time u whip up something from all those light bulb moments u have ur genius is so clear from the resourcefulness u show us rhank you so much for sharing and inspiring all of us 🫶
Hottest club in town is Lolo Depresso 🔥
June! Your videos means so much to me. Your imagination, description of food, and playfulness with combinations in the kitchen. Thank you for being you!! ❤ Love from a Swedish follower
In UK Lidl and Aldi are categorically the cheapest supermarkets, I find the quality to be really good although I go to fancy supermarkets for happy meat and dairy
My mom used to fed my family and I with rotisserie chicken and salad made with carrots, canned pineapple, sour cream and raisins, it was delicious!!! Your salad at the begging made me remembered that ❤
I LOVE your content, I usually get 3 watches out of a video: one attentive watch, and two background noise watches. It’s nice, feels like a friend.
How funny I get one attentive and one background too
I keep referring to your scrapple quesadilla as the "Amish Crunchwrap" 😄 loved this video!!
Every time I watch June, it's as if I'm listening to an audiobook of poems for food.
June, the zero waste queen!
Hi June. ive been watching your videos for a while now and im always excited on what recipe youre gonna come up with next! hahah ! Also, yuka(cassava) is supposed to be peeled, sliced, the middle vein taken out and then boiled with pinch of salt for savory dishes. This can be paired with BBQs or soups or stewed. You could additionally simply grate it, mix a little bit of everything sweet and bake it or steam it
Please do more of these cooking videos ❤
I wish I knew she had her own channel sooner so I could support omg! I remember watching her budget video years ago and I was amazed. Glad to know these videos are still going. ❤️
So enjoyable watching you get wild with your food! And yes, a lot of things get so much better a day later, once the flavours have had a chance to fully develop.
I miss your videos so much June! I hope you are doing well. Much love!
thank you for the video June!!! can’t imagine how much work goes into putting something like this together but i love these videos so much ❤❤❤ been watching it in bits and pieces over the last few days when the work day has been slow… 😂 love you June, you’re an inspiration
Love how resourceful you are! Learning lots from you❤
Your creativity never cease to amaze me, June!
I loved the video, as always. I just could watch you talk about food and life for hours. Also, since I started mixing dough with chopsticks, I cannot imagine using anything else. It's so efficient and you don't get your hands all full of dough.
I ❤ your budget eat videos. I go in feeling curious, excited and positive you’ll do something to challenge yourself in the menus set forth and by the end I’m left with a satisfying feeling that I watched a friend cooked something, share a bit about herself with your friends and just setting her expectations low so we can see them exceed for the most part. Favorite part here is your ode to mom with the scallop dish. Memories of food and family are so linked together! All the best!
You are amazing June….thank you for inspiring me to be more creative 🥰❤️
I am so happy to see you posted June! You inspire me to just pick up things that i'd like to try sometime and not waste food ❤
I absolutely loved this cant wait for more ❤
Thanks for another budget video, Love them!
I'm loving these videos! I love the creativity. I'm currently trying to clean out my fridge, freezer and pantry and these are really giving me some inspiration. ❤ Love you June!
I love watching you cook. So keep doing what you’re doing
Loved every single second of this video❤
Worth the wait. Great video June
Wow this was wonderful definitely want to try some of these please keep posting vlogs I’m here for it 💜
Thanks for the creamed corn scones idea! I have had some in my freezer for ages and never knew what to do with it. Awesome video!
I enjoyed this format very much June! 👍🤗🎉
Crying in Canadian a lil bit, cause some of the prices you said were too high...seemed good to me😭 I've officially turned into my nana, hunting for deals on the daily, cause grocery prices here are truly insane
Prep pandemic I used to cross the border from MI to shop for Yves vegetarian products, among other things. I really miss that now that I am in RI.
When I lived in Ontario from 2002-2008, I thought they were high then. Mostly the chicken and dairy. I would cross into Michigan and bring back all the cheese.
I really missed your videos ❤️ they are so magical
I love these videos!! It’s a lot like life in that you try a bunch of different things. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn’t. Hopefully over time, the ratio of the good to bad gets better😊
I love grandma! She reminds me of my much-loved mother in the law, who I don’t get to see often
Love this!! You're back!!
I too like those fish sticks, well fried in a pan with some butter. Served with stewed chopped spinach, hardboiled eggs and boiled potatoes. It's absolutely delicious. The fish tacos looks yummy, myst try something like that with the fish sticks.
love the edit this week....the street shots and how you put that all together was super fun! Love your vids as always :)
th
These videos types are where you shine!

Thanks June! Very interesting creations as always. :)
The best thing about watching this video, only slightly edging out being totally in awe of your creativity, is finding out you’re a Wildcat too! 😻 BEAR DOWN❤️💙
I love how you can make recipes with just about anything. More vids please! I wish you happiness always.
Yayyy... this was sooo DOPE! Ur a creative genius June! Another amazing haul, cooking segment and friends to share in the journey equals perfection 🥰

Loved the video June!
Really like the video and seeing your friends. Thank you! And the food shows looked amazing! haha
So much fun! I haven't seen you for awhile & this was a fun gateway back. Thanks so much!! And I always love it when you channel your dean Mum. Mine's been gone for 18 years but she's constantly with me when I cook (& eat). I still have a little jar of her saffron that she brought back from Spain...
June I'm five minutes in and loving it already. Thank you
I just love these videos! You are so creative
Great video! It kept me company while doing laundry and the dishes. Really looking forward to the trade show food haul video.
This was great! I haven't been online in awhile, I missed how descriptive you are when you eat!!!❤❤❤
I love your cooking videos and recently! Thank you for sharing them. I especially love it when you share recipes from your childhood. I was wondering if you would ever do a week of just your childhood meals?
27:20 june cant believe she did it without a recipe... Of course you did, YOURE AMAZING 🤩
😇🙆😈
Cooking should be fun, creative, satisfying and nourishing. You make it all those things and it's just a true joy to watch. thank you.
Just found this channel- THANK you!!!!
I haven't watched your channel for a while - just started again like in the past week, but I have to say it's really improved this year. I've always loved your stuff, but this is so much better. I'm sorry to hear about your mother - I lost mine recently too, but they're always with us. You're amazing 💕💕
Excited to see June’s video again!!also super happy to see familiar faces. Still rmb about grandma’s gradings for June’s food, grandma is really a easy going person (may she be blessed with great health & happiness). Nevertheless, thank you June for your video & your food creations!!
I liked this format very much.
This made me immensely happy. was having a very difficult week but watching this made it worth it. also, June you'd make an amazing documentary filmmaker.. 29:33 - the audio starting before the video is amazing!!!!! THANKYOU SO MUCH ❣
Yeeeiiii, June is baaaack!!❤
