- Unpacking my last ever parcel from Hattons. I've cleaned out my trunk and taken advantage of the sale, but will everything run? And most importantly what condition is the box in?

The best way to get generational acceptance of model railway enthusiasm is to catch 'em young. Whenever I have a young child come into my orbit I buy them a wooden train set at the age of three. So far I've bought six train sets with expansion sets and two of the children weren't even related to me. If you've got enough time you could try the age of two. I bought the barmaid's son at my local pub one and he was two years old. It's simplicity itself to connect the track and rolling stock. After a while I realised it was coding in three dimensions!

Well done in grabbing such nice bargains, Rob. You came away with a really great box load of stuff and having them all run as good as this from the start. Enjoy them on your layout, but it is very sad that we have lost a major supplier of model railway goods. 😢
Great video, some very nice bargains there. My favourite bargain i got was a sound fitted Bachmann 66 for £120!

Very nice rob im so jealous of the Shakespeare express I've had my eye on one but always found it to expensive the 56xx is lovely you done good 👍
The 56xx by Bachmann is a good model, that was the first UK steam engine I bought more than a decade ago. So, a second hand engine that had been taken care by her previous owner should run fine.
I've picked up a few preowned now, brilliant locos.
The trunk was so useful ,hit my last ever item coming too a nice HO Routemaster in tartan advertising livery which ran on the 15 when I was 3 great price too ,sad they are going 😢
I spent £20 on loads of ballast, ground cover and scatter which were about a pound each.
That train pack is a beaut!

Yeah, big win. So pleased the decoders both work. The Hall class might have a rattle going on, but nothing a service won't fix.
With Hattons closing down, what’s the situation with warranty claims, for say, the Hattons decoder. Obviously the pre-owned stuff is on an as is basis.
Absolute bargins there! Especially The Shakespear Express! Not jealous at all!
Yeah, happy with that! Hall class has a slight rattle. I think it's something on the leading wheels, but it still runs well.

It's quite interesting that for a shop that's going out of business the prices are still sky high! The 56xx's have increased with inflation but they were £36 when new circa 15 years ago
They'd be £60 now with inflation. Plus, the cost of the decoder.
EBay is going to be rammed full of model railway items next month…
Can you bild a small shunting layout
After having a small shunting area on my old layout, I realised I'm not patient enough for it. I think OO Neal is building one that looks really good.

I’m confused by why Hattons going broke takes out MBKlein, even if it means Klein has to be sold out of the bankruptcy.
Hattons hasn’t gone bankrupt, though. It’s being wound up before the decline goes too far.
Makes even stranger. If MBK is a separate subsidiary they should be a viable asset that can be sold off and saved.
The whole company is winding up, and this includes MB Klein. There's been hints that Klein was in a much bigger financial and operational hole than than Hattons thought when they bought them. Instead of progressing forward with conversion to Hattons USA, they cut their losses and wound it up. This has clearly had some blowback on Hattons itself, I wouldn't be surprised if it erased several years worth of savings that could have been used to wheather this economic downturn.
I really don't get videos were someone shows off what they got. It's just a case of look at me with a smug grin
The train pack isn't that great though, it has two identical Pullmans - they should be different types!
Hattons rip off used prices, yes as they ripped off sellers 😢
For us outside the UK, their used prices were still far better than eBay, at least I didn't have to pay an average 40 quid just to ship one small item.
@@BAKU2K2 The trunk was a lifesaver in that regard. Buy up over the course of six months, then have kilograms worth of stuff sent all at once for far less than it would have cost separately.
As for their used purchase prices, they can't sell stuff for much more than eBay. Within that price, they have to cover their own purchasing and warehouse staff, document what they've bought, enter everything into their system, maintain their system, pay for you to ship everything to them (which they even did *from Australia*), deal with returns if something isn't as described, pay processing fees, and pay tax. And who knows, it might not actually sell and have to be written off. Previous statements indicate a general profit margin of 30%, though that includes both New where profits will be very low, and used where profits will be higher. If you sell it yourself you'd definitely get more and the buyer pay a lower price, but you would have to perform all of those tasks yourself for every single item.

@@LittleWicketRailwaywell, I was advising you that the Shakespeare Express train pack should have two DIFFERENT Pullmans - yours are both the same. There should be one with the kitchen, one without. Someone's obviously switched one of them at some point. Check out online images.
