We are Tony and Jane and we are living in and renovating our old Relais De Poste/Coaching Inn.
We live in the middle of France in a region called The Berry.
We have over 40 rooms to renovate so there is plenty of work to be done. We also love to trawl the local Brocantes, flea markets and antique shops for quirky furnishings and furniture.
We love to find out about local history and often visit other peoples buildings including our friends’ Chateaux.
The garden entrance looks 1000 times better with Tony's archway...beautuful
BEST
When one runs a b&b business, has holidays and family, videos are impossible. So glad that your business and you both are doing well. Good to see a video from you...always!! thank you!
Thank you Jane x
Everything is looking beautiful Jane. You two work so hard, I can’t believe how much you have accomplished.
Jane, I don't know why you don't have more subscribers. Your videos are well done, plus Tony and yourself do amazing jobs.
Fabulous turn out on the canning.
Love the bifold doors John and Tony put in.
That thunder and lightning show was cool. We had a storm here similar last week. The grandkids loved it. When we were growing up, the TV was turned off during lightning storms, and we had to stay in. The TVs had antennas then on the roof.
Cheers to you both.❤
Happy to see you
And Tony again,
Family, and friends. 😊
Hi Jane and Tony, so nice to see you back. My goodness I’m exhausted watching just how much work you have to do between the gites and cleaning and laundry.
Then your own chores and then the garden. The iron work that Tony made for the garden is beautiful . He really is an amazing artist and so creative .
Well thanks again Jane but please don’t burn yourself out. 😘🇨🇮
A neighbor once told me that if I wanted better tomatoes that to pinch off two out of the three that grow together. She was right I had bigger tomatoes and I ended up having more
Oh my goodness Jane, you have brought my childhood back to me....doing all the homemade jams, pie fillings, and more...yummy! I am a widow living alone now, but I do still make homemade jams and I freeze any fruits that I'm given. The smell in the kitchen and of course the joy of eating the harvested fruit and vegetables is a real treat in the cooler weather, absolutely lovely! Your garden is amazing! Nice to have you back. Take care of yourself during this busy season.
I come from generations of farmers and the women took such pride in show us their canning. It was security against a hard winter. They also canned wild strawberries and blueberries. The men helped so they could have fruit pies made. Your table of growing jars reminded me of that! So glad you’ve enjoyed your family this summer as well.
The family gites beds would look amazing upholstered in matching fabric would give the room a wonderful look.
Best thing about the garden is not necessarily the money you save but you know your getting fresh , good vegetables that are truly home grown goodness. And hello Jane and Tony .
Absolutely Machelle x
It's amazing the transformation you've made. Beautiful! A lot of hard work!! Your garden is wonderful, good food! You'll enjoy all winter.
No wonder you haven’t had time to make videos - you’re working hard! Glad you’re getting time with family and friends too.
What a storm!!!
And what a harvest. Great you’re making a profit on your fruit and veg.
Great work on the preserves, jams, etc.
Great job on the arch Tony! ♥️♥️♥️
Great haul of preserves! If you add what you will save from buying jams, chutneys etc., your garden and gifts from friends will have saved you a lot more than purely what you have already listed on your window. Well done in the self sufficiency drive!
very true Sherae, it all adds up x
Glad your back. Loved seeing your gites congratulations your getting plenty of guests. The Arch is beautiful gosh! Tony is a genius. Your veggie patch is awesome. All your preserves look delicious. Yes, you’ve been very busy
Love the Wrought iron Arch Tony made its stunning . Your Garden looking great i have similar to what u have and yes Grapes , well u can only eat as many as u can i did try and freeze some too , even made some wine which i have not tried yet . But not sure about Jam .Neat Gites it would be lovely to come and rent one some day . Thank u for the update .
Just as a wholistic RN, my suggestion for Tony’s loss of smell/taste (either or both) is to rub essential oils on the tops of toes front and back of all the toes. These are reflexes to all the senses. If you don’t have access to essential oils, try something like Vick’s VaporRub. Using camphor, lavender, oregano, peppermint, tea tree, clove, Thieves oil, frankincense….or combos of these….you can look up various recipes. Putting the drops (only a few) in with some coconut oil to apply to rub onto the toes will yield an increase of these senses which seem to have effected people with bouts of flu. The person may actually sense tasting it the oils after one or more applications so it would help restore these senses. May depend on how long a person is without taste or smell for this restoration process to heal. A foot rub is an absolute dream to experience as well! Good Luck!
That sounds like a great idea. Will try that. I wonder if it might help people after a covid episode, some people have trouble with taste etc. Thank you for the information.
So glad you’re back. You two have certainly been busy. Looking forward to the next video. Take care. ❤️❤️❤️
What a massive amount of produce in a compact space! Well done!
Good idea about the garden tally!!!! Your home is taking such beautiful shape, you should be very proud. Tony is a genius.
So nice of you Heather x
Lovely to see you back. Hoping you were okay. Impressed with all your jams and chutneys😊
Busy busy busy...the gites, the garden, the family the prepping and all the help you gave. No wonder you didn't find the time to remove the weeds Jane.
But nevertheless the weeds youre garden looks so well.
I love to see how Tony makes the arch.
It’s good to see that you are actually getting your gites occupied. Though it’s giving you lots of work it must be so satisfying to meet people and enable them to enjoy their holidays and also giving you an income. Your garden is lushly marvellous. And your canning as it’s called here is signalling tasty means to come. Well done both if you - you are living a wonderful life with family and friends all around.
I am exhausted just looking at the amount of work you have achieved ! All those beds to change and the ironing in the canicule?? Just looking after the fruit and veg without all the jams. Visitors and Family too?? I am going for a rest. You are both stars and I love your arch Jane. Well done Tony👏👏👏👌👌👌🥳🥳❤❤
My dad used to individually wrap apples in newspaper and store them in our garage. They last for absolutely ages. They are still fresh. Xx
Wow you have been extremely busy thanks for update 🌹💐🌹
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
jane you have done really well with the garden and all the preserves ,and i love the archway tony is so talented
Those goose berries make wonderful pies
I absolutely love your garden, it looks fabulous even with the weeds😊
Glad you were busy and not sick or something. What an inviting space your garden is, absolutely love the arch and gate! Jane's happy place 😊
Yes definitely my happy space thanks Toots x
I love your idea of keeping a cost & profit list for your garden. It really shows the effort is worth it & a lovely way to see volumes over the time too. Organic home grown food always tastes amazing & way healthier for you all. I enjoyed your cooking & recipe for a lovely omelet which I'll try myself. Thanks for showing us the jams & chutneys; I wouldn't have thought to make a mixed fruit jam.
You have been busy Jane! Your garden looks so plush and amazing. Love the arch Tony built!
Thanks so much Iris 😊
🥰 Loved your garden tour Jane! 🥰

You have such a pretty veggie garden.
Love the Artistic Arch Tony…. Very 1900s 👏👏
Jane- I think you might be giving Patrick "competition at the county fair" with your jams & chutneys. ha! ha! Tell him I said so. Your garden is amazing!!!
Thanks Stacia x
It was lovely to hear from you guys you have been very busy as always remember your family must come first this why you live in France your family can visit and have holidays with you and having your Grand babies over must be great they grow so fast so take time out with them it’s brill sue from coventry
What hardworkers you both are. Your gites are delightful, they would be very lovely to stay in. l don’t know how you do all that washing and ironing. A great way to get income. 🤗💐
Your garden looks so good, and the bounty is beautiful! Thanks for your vlog. I always enjoy it.
You have been busy! Well done
Courgette and onion fritters are delicious and a great side dish. I shred and then salt to drain the moisture from the courgette. I use half the weight of the courgette to add very thinly sliced onion. Add minced garlic, salt and pepper to taste and a beaten egg to the mixture. Two ounces of the mixture makes a nice sized fritter. The mixture can be made and frozen to make later also. Pure yum as a side dish or snack.
Thanks Nanci, I made some and yes delish x
Amazing fruit and vegetables! So good to see you guys again! Looking forward to seeing everything! ✌🏻💞😊
Good to have a catch up. Glad you have had a good summer season.
Life gets busy ! ❤ Great news your gîte activity has been busy too. Nice to have family visits. It hasn’t been easy in the heat 🥵
Oh my, all looks delicious, you have been very busy❤
Thanks Nancy x
Jane, your garden is dreamy. I like an overgrown, wild garden at season's end.
Have you used zucchini to make lasagna? I cut the slices long ways and saute them until fully cooked to golden color. Then assemble the two or four serving lasagna in the sautée skillet. Once assembly is complete pop on a lid to melt your choice of cheeses, or put in the oven if needed. The courgettes don't taste much different than pasta lasagna noodles. I've grown to prefer it without pasta.
Thanks for the tour. Washing sheets in the gites eliminates hauling huge bundles of laundry. Very smart!
I have experience making chutney, relish, preserved fruit and jelly. My mom and I spent almost the entire summer from the time I was eight yrs old until I left home doing that. We also jarred a pantry shelf of 100 quarts of green beans, froze 50 quarts of corn cut off the cobb, and froze gallons and gallons of tomatoes for sauce to be made after Christmas.
I know how much time and work went into your table load of full jars. You have my full admiration m'dear!
Thank you for all the lovely comments you leave, and yes courgette/zucchini lasagne is a favourite of ours in season x
Glad you guys are good and with family and friends! Busy busy❤ like the way you keep the tally.. my pitiful garden is in the negative but that is ok, I see it more as an experiment
You do not need to apologize for being busy with your life. It is good to know that you are well.
Your harvest has been amazing, and still providing for you and gifts for your friends. Canning jars are not as easily found these days, I hope you are able to find more to put up the rest of your harvest.
Have you tried making Zucchini loafs, oversize zucchini can be grated and frozen to make zucchini omelets in the winter months. I used to also make Beet and Carrot cakes as a substitute for Christmas pudding and / or cake. Enjoy the fruit of your labour. Greetings from Saskatchewan, Canada
Thanks Ronnie, it's a good idea to freeze some courgettes, I'll do that
good job
Nice to your video. It’s a good thing that you’ve been busy with the rentals . I forgot how to spell gitt 🤷🏻♀️ great gardening and persevering your bounty 🥰🫶🫶🇨🇦
Pleased your back you lovely pair xx 😊
You could eat some of those courgette flowers, Jane, which would cut down on some of your harvest. 😉😋
Great idea!!
funnily enough, while scrolling through suggestions, I said to myself, "long time no hear" !?? and then you popped up 🤔 great to hear you're making a few bob etc. Bienvenue de nouveau ❤️
Thanks Pat x
Blue shutters are lovely
I think so too!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
💕Did you make the big cupboard under the stairs into a pantry or do you have another place for all of your pickles chutneys & jams💕
💜💙💚
Thank you x
Everything is so lovely Jane! I love how you’re tallying your crops. Do you add the cost of the preserved food you would normally have to buy? The gate is gorgeous and I love the bird on top. I have noticed that no one had much luck with their tomatoes this year and there was a problem with mildew as well. Too much rain I suppose. Can’t wait for upcoming adventures!❤
Thanks Ann, no I don't add the cost of buying preserves to the tally, so yes it's all extra savings x
Ah ha they are back 🙂🙂
Yes Steve, can't get rid of us!
@@notquiteachateaudiy….. 😏😏😏😳😂
Nigella Lawson has a great recepi of courgette fritters with mint, lime and feta cheese. They are really good. I also make courgette cake sometimes. Tomatoes are not doing well here and in other places.
Sounds great Nicole I must try that x
Busy is good
Hi Jane, I’ve missed you! I love the way you edited this video.
Thank you June x
I misses you ❤
Glad you had a great family time , the storm looked especially fun for the younger ones. If I would keep a tally of how much my garden is paying off, I am sure i am losing money. I do it for the love of it , my husband asked me how much did these carrots cost? haha , I tell him " you don't want to know my dear." But I just used up my last jar of salsa and I have 2 jars of tomato sauce left., so that was a success. What do you use your plum chutney for? Don't think I have ever tasted that. Why do all the window in France need shutters?
Hi Fran, the chutney is great with cheese or cold meats x
Great to see you!Missed your vlogs😊
Thank you 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
3.11 ah ha my bedroom 👏👏👏
Yes Steve, it was a bit tidier when you came to stay x
@@notquiteachateaudiy…… very comfortable bed and lovely Gite and I really enjoyed the cups of tea sitting at that round stone table outside the door, just gazing around your courtyard from my seat…… because of watching your vlogs-it felt like I was on a film set. 🙂
How about keeping a water butt for your plants
Porqué no en español??
sorry but I don't know, UA-cam auto generates the subtitles
Disgraceful behaviour 😳😳😳😳
You’re not meant to have a private life away from UA-cam 😳😂😂😂😂
Haha
😂
Your greenhouse and garden are just great. I love to see all your canning on display too.
