  • Homemade Zipline DIY ~ Backyard Upgrades #7
    I have wanted a Zipline experience for a long time. So instead of going to business location, I decided to build a zip line in my backyard.
    This is a simple way to turn you backyard into an exciting place that you kids will want to enjoy instead of being told to.
    I am not an expert zipline builder so make sure to check and follow all safety guidelines when building a zipline, so no one gets injured.
    This is the 7th edition in our Backyard Upgrades series, so make sure to watch the others below.

    great video very ingenious but I am not grasping how the brake works at all... can you explain or show that?

    • @SpecificLove7
      @SpecificLove7  5 років тому +1

      Of course. The brake slides freely on the cable, but it has a bungee cord attached to it. The bungee is also attached to the anchor. When the pulley contacts the brake, the bungee stretches creating tension, and slows down the pulley and rider. I hope that helps.

      OK I can just make it out down there at the bottom. The ground anchor is 10 feet or so ahead of the other tree, tied via a bungee to the brake, which rests on the zipline and the follower hits it. So the braking force is from the bungee resisting being stretched out AND the clamp on the line? I suppose only the bungee, so that it can return the brake to the starter position automatically as it pulls back to its unstretched length and travels back up the line away from the far tree? If it were clamped super tight it would just stay at the end, bungee still stretched.

      Yes the bungee tension is the braking and it does return automatically. It may be 10-15 feet front the end.

    I read a report of a teenager killed when a bungee brake attached to a screw-in ground anchor pulled the anchor out of the ground, and the stretched bungee then sent it flying at his head. I definitely would not use a ground anchor like that to attach the bungee to.

    WARNING!!! At 2:10 it appears at though you've saddled a dead horse... the U-Bolt is clamping down on the live wire instead of the dead end. You can see how the individual cables are splaying out due to the pressure. This could lead to the cable snapping. Hope you get this message. Be safe. ;) Good design overall though.

    I think something besides pats cord through a hole drilled in a pvc pipe would be safer, maybe a cable through a wooden dowel?

    I used to be a lineman. With that said, have you considered putting more tension on the cable? Tightened up? 😀

    • @SpecificLove7
      @SpecificLove7  5 років тому +1

      I made it pretty tight with the cable puller and it works for now. I can always adjust it more later.

    Why on earth would you use the tensioner on the 10ft high end!?

    I wouldn't use a ladder, but a simple platform or nail steps to the tree. Ladders are way too easy to flip while on them...

    @2:52 The US Flag is improperly displayed. The Blue field is always to the left (or pointing forward) of those viewing. :)
