Some of you people are absolute assclowns. You’re acting like it’s open heart surgery! It’s a damn go kart, and it’s his! If he wants to pour hot tar in the crankcase it’s his right! Never seen so many professional engine builders on a damn go kart UA-cam channel. He spit a head, cam and a piston in that cart in half an hour and will probably run it for 3 more year. Jeez. I think he did just fine.

You are right, but given the fact that these videos are shot as tutorials, Some precaution about the dirt would have been more professionnal. But yes, he can do whatever he wants.

Internet experts, aka mechanically inept couch potatoes. Amazing how often you see them in karting channel comments with various tarded advice which a sensible person wouldn't touch with a bargepoll.

This video is well done. Precautions about dirt are a little overboard. That should be learned as a prerequisite for any engine building. How far do you want him to go? Explain the MSDS of oil, gasket sealer, and gas? Explain all pinch point dangers? Make sure you have hearing protection when your air compressor kicks on? There are some things that should be expected when you are tackling something as precise engine Assembly. There are plenty of other videos on those subjects as well

I would really like to see one of these engines taken as far as it can go. Big bore, hot cam, roller valvetrain. Bigger valves, ported head, higher compression. All that fun stuff just to see what it'll do.

Standard A-block gy6s can be bored and stroked to 212cc along with having 4 valve heads. B-block gy6s can be bored and stroked to 240cc along with 4 valve heads. Theres also DOHC 4 valve heads. Theres now custom machined gy6 blocks that are pushing around 350cc. Theres also water cooled cylinder kits available.

A couple of things for the people that are whining. 1 The oil was changed right before the meet up and went through about 3 quarts in one day from burning oil. 2 I didn't clean the engine before tearing it down and it runs perfectly fine after. 3 the dowels for the rockers were in the rockers when installed.

I stand by these gy6 motors as one of the best engines to learn how to rebuild an engine on. They’re a great first project. The best second project would probably be something like a predator 212. A small lawnmower engine. But these engines are super forgiving, you don’t have to worry about the bearings as much because it’s all roller bearings. Very simple project to learn the very basics. It’s the first engine I ever rebuilt. My rebuilt motor is super sketch and idk how long it’ll run for but it does run, and it does run well. My issue now is with the stupid cvt.

The wrist pin clip should be installed with the open end facing up or down in reference to the stroke ( I couldn't tell the witch way you did it, not saying you wrong). If they are perpendicular to the stroke, inertia could cause the clip to come out. Thought it would be something for your viewers to know. Really dig your videos, love that setup table!

Guessing there is a witness mark on the crank somewhere that should be lined up to make sure the cam is timed to the crank? Sometimes when you drop tension on the chain the crank can move and set the cam tooth or two off once put back together. But maybe this isn't an issue on these?

    • @JG-iw8mh

I agree that the rebuild looks easy on this motor. Just not sure I need it. My friend asked me to look at a Trail Master Challenger 150 that won't start. It's got spark and I checked the compression but it only has about 35lbs of compression. The engine will not even fire. Compression sounds very low to me, but perhaps it has a compression relief for starting. It was running fine, no smoke. They shut it off and it won't start again. I cannot imagine that the motor was running with only 35lb of compression, so I'm suspicious that the low compression is a red herring. Any advice?

Is there any simple way to make these motors faster? I added a new air filter and I’m gonna mess with the carb but otherwise I don’t know what else I can do. I’m not very mechanically inclined so I look for easy things to improve.

How do you find TDC on these ? I'm sure it is something really simple, just thought I'd ask before I tear into mine
    More GY6 content please !! 😁🤘

Just take the spark plug out and use a drinking straw to find TDC

Are all the GY6 150cc motors the same from go cart to IceBear maddog 150 trike. If not what's the difference between parts or are they interchangeable. It's like whoever is selling parts for the IceBear maddog bikes are charging a arm and leg meanwhile you see other sites charging less but will they work on any gy6

I just bought a used spider go kart with the 150cc. I see where everyone is buying thr Predators engine but my sprocket is on the right hand side. Predates have the shaft coming out on the opposite side.
Is there comefindof conversation kit. I was wanting around to get about 15 hp to keep up with my buddies.
Ps your UA-cam site is totally awesome!!!!!!
Do you do work for others
    Thanks

Did you check the compression after the rebuild? I have the same engine and I believe my problem is low compression but I don't know what it should be.

Hello. I have a 150cc go kart and I have some parts to modify it; 58.5mm piston kit, 30mm carburetor, and would you like to know if I install an a12 or A14 camshaft?

I know this is an old video but hopefully I get an answer, my 150cc gy6 buggy burnt a stator so I replaced it, when I test rode it, it was leaking out the stator seal, I made sure it wasn’t low on oil every time I started it, last night I took it out for about 10-20 mins and when I pulled in to the shed it started to knock at idel.. if I rev it or shift in to gear it doesn’t knock but at neutral n low idel it knocks... what could it be?

Is it common that 150 rings leak oil or it because long use ?

This one had a ton of hours and about 8 years of riding. I would say as long as there serviced right they will last.

my hammerhead smoked like a tar kettle when i got it. it also didnt have an air filter and the kids drove it on a dirt road. that was probably the problem.
