This was originally a fender design haha only made for one year under the alternate reality line. A lot of obscure models in that line, definitely worth checking out
That's exactly what first drew me to Squier - they don't just stick with the standards and the experiments they release are things people actually want
@@sunnyhaair Yeah, you're not gonna get a bunch of collector types going "Boo, this is not how the Tele was made in whatever year last century I think it peaked". Zero history. Greetings! Hearing you say: "Squier is my favorite brand," really struck a note with me... At that moment I actually embraced that fact that I am feeling much the same toward Squier. I was always in mind saying that Fender was my favorite, but lately I have really opened up to the reality of Squier being a totally top brand that has so much potential to satisfy a player's real needs! Thanks for saying it!
Thanks for sharing that Raymond I really appreciate that it resonated with you! I totally get that it can feel a little jarring to embrace Squier as your favorite. For me, I’ve been a lifelong Gibson fanatic and I love Gibson. But Squier is a brand that excites me - I love their new releases (especially the paranormal stuff) because there’s just something about them that makes me want to play them. Fender is great, and I think that why Squier is so great. It’s not only an extension of Fender’s legacy but Squier is really doing something that the entire industry is benefiting from - exciting players and helping bring new players into the fold. The fact that it’s affordable is great, but regardless of price point - having guitars as versatile and well constructed as what Squier has been doing the last few years is incredible. Really great time to be a guitarist. Thanks again for watching!
Damn!!! Love it! I'm a sucker for the large headstock (bonus it's painted to match the body - really looks sharp on the black model). The H/H configuration rocks! Thanks for the video!
Went to look for my first Guitar yesterday. This video came up when I was looking at Telecasters. I bought this tonight, after your video. Thank you. :)
Congrats on your new Telecaster! That means a lot to me. When I make these videos, I often have beginner players in mind. I wish I’d had a guitar as good as this when I was starting out-I’d put it next to anything. Playing guitar has been the most rewarding experience of my life, and I’m really happy to have played a small part in the path that led you to it. Hope it’s been treating you well! P.S. Make sure your string height isn’t too high! I had mine too high for years, and it caused me to develop some bad habits that made playing harder than it needed to be.
I've been waiting very impatiently waiting for reviews of this particular guitar. Glad I'm not disappointed, it sounds incredible! And this is the exact type of review i wanted. No extra drums or shitty blues licks, good stuff!
Yeah I have a hard time with full mix guitar demos too 😅 Kind of hard to get an idea of the nuances. Glad you enjoyed it! I’ve been waiting for a video on it too. I actually just watched another one that’s got tones of nice tones in it too. Thanks for watching!
I am astonished with how much I love this guitar. I got the black and gold one and it's possibly the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen, but it plays even better than it looks. Pickups sound incredibly, the neck is like butter, everything about this model is OUTSTANDING. I may have to buy the gold one too just because these are a limited run and I will be kicking myself five years from now if I miss the chance to get such a truly special instrument. For 450 euros, Squier has done something remarkable.
I just found out about this guitar today and I am in love! Thank you for this video, it sounds incredible. I remember when I worked at a music store in the mid 2000's, Squire was a junk brand with barely playable instruments. When the vintage modified (and later classic vibe) series began coming out it really skyrocketed Squires quality opinions. Now I'd almost always rather get a Squire than a Fender, since the price difference is huge but the quality really isn't!
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah so I started playing the mid 2000s and Squier was almost painful to play back then, it’s incredible how good they are now. I’ve sold all my Fenders (except for a Jazz Bass!) and have never sold a Squier 😊So I’m right there with ya! Thanks for watching!
Great review - thanks man! Would love to see a 1mo update. I saw/ played this same guitar at my local shop and could not put it down. It was put on the floor Sunday and sold on a Monday so I missed out :(

Would you ever consider grabbing one of the Squier Tele Customs and swapping a strat neck on to it? There's tons of squier necks for super cheap online since they're such popular mod platforms
Really enjoyed your review Sunny, great format and style. I’d never considered a humbucker style Tele, but your review and the tones you got from it really hit a chord. Not sure if you are a Tool fan but some of your playing with drive reminded me of Adam Jones with some great tones.
Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it! And I’m a huge Tool fan. My Mt. Rushmore of guitar influences is Jerry Cantrell, Billy Howerdel, Wes Borland, and… Adam Jones! Thanks for watching and the huge compliment!
This is like, oh you thought a Telecaster Deluxe was our take on a Les Paul? What if we do block inlays, neck binding, a wrap around tail, and a gold top?
You could use a fret kisser for a high fret unless it is lifted. Buying tools is never a bad idea. I do all my own work, I spend a lot of time rounding fret ends and giving the fretboard a worn-in feel, usually takes me about 6 hours. I have the Nomad fret tool you showed, they make a lot of good tools.
Hey thank you for the recommendation. I bought a fret kisser after this and it took care of the problem in four swipes! What would you recommend for polishing after filing and crowning?
Re the high fret .... tap first before filing. It may be enough. If you do have to file, make sure you know where the high spot is. It is unlikely that the whole fret is evenly high. You only want to take metal off the high portion (if it is needed at all). And a fret crowning file is not likely to help - they are designed to knock off the edges AFTER leveling (which tends to flatten the top of the fret) so the highest point is in the centre of the fret. They not NOT designed to lower the fret. You need a different tool to level (like a leveling beam for whole neck work or fret erasers for spot work). If money is no object, the StewMacdonald fret kisser would be ideal for your problem, but they are pricey. I just bought a Squier Contemporary Jaguar and love it. Similar PU sound options, roasted maple neck, same tuners. Biggest difference (besides body shape) is 24" scale. I did notice, when I tried to raise the tailpiece a bit, it was just turning in the body instead of screwing out of the insert. Easy to fix, but I'm glad I noticed it. I would hate to think what would happen if it popped out of the body with strings under full tension.
Is that one of the gold Jaguars? That thing sounds GREAT. Glad you caught that bridge issue - I had the same thing on a Vintera Jag last year. And thank you for the heads up on my fret problem! It’s just the very top of the one fret. If I get the fret kisser, will I still need to crown, or is filing a one step solution?
@@sunnyhaair Yeah - gold Jag. The fret kisser is just to flatten high spots. What makes it cool/easy is that it is also a "fret rocker" that helps you find high spots. But a much cheaper tool like a fret eraser or file can knock down the height. But once you get the height right the "formerly high" fret is now flat on top where it used to high. Thats when you need to reintroduce the "crown". If you don't, you can still play it but it can throw off the intonation and make that one not on the flattened part of the fret sound sharp.
I've done some of the highspots on cheaper guitars, like Mr. Sunny says,. And works golden every time!. The bow in files are of rounding of them frets like it should!.. So, when someone tells me it don't work,.. I can tell it do work,.. No need for pro- luthiers in this type of issues!! .. Lovely reviews as always, Mr. Sunny!! Thanks! 🙂
Really nice guitar. Kinda gibsonish Fender Tele. I really love the look of the fretboard. Being positive surprised that you like the pickups. I think i changed always the pickups on all my squiers in the past. Squier put out so much interesting guitars in the last four years. You always can save 500 bucks to a Fender and put all that money ro improve them. Love Squiers all the way. ❤
I agree 100% - these last few years Squier has been untouchable! I'm 40/60 on changing pickups in Squiers haha. I've only changed them in my Jazzmaster and Starcaster, but the Teles and the Sonic Strat I've been very happy with! I tend to dial in the sort of the sounds the pickups naturally do anyway. Great to hear from you my friend and thanks for watching!
You might be able to install a Duesenberg Les Trem to this as it has a pretty standard looking Tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece of a Gibson style guitar.
Fender and Squier are getting a lot of my attention these. Much more than Epiphone or Gibson, which I’m more in the market for (a better les Paul than what I have). Torn between getting this or the Coral Red Player II Strat.
What kind of Les Paul do you have at the moment and what direction were you looking to go in? The new Modern & Supreme sound wise are in the same ballpark as this Tele (with a touch of that LP low mid heft). They’re really versatile too. That new Coral Red finish from Fender looks great. If I didn’t buy this I would’ve got one of the Jazzmasters. As for the strats though I haven’t played one of the Player IIs but I played a Player 1 Strat and the playability on this Tele feels identical.
@@sunnyhaair I was tempted by the new Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 59' but I'm not enthused with it not having a rosewood board for the £1200 asking price. IMO, brands should be offering rosewood or a darkened laurel when the price is over £750, but that's just my subjective opinion. I've never owned a top notch Les Paul before and I still have my first and only Epiphone from circa 2007, which is nowhere near the quality of the recent products. Mine is in barely playable condition (worn frets, new nut not set up correctly and botched electronics by me). Mulling over getting it fixed up properly or investing in a new guitar like this Squier. Also, what is the string tension like on this guitar. What strings do you have on it currently? Only interested as the shorter scale on a Gibson style is a bit better for the 10/11 gauge hybrid set I'd usually use on an LP style fixed bridge. Same standard fender tension more suited to 9 guage?
Congrats! Is it one of the Telecaster Customs or one of those rare Jazzmasters? I've never played a baritone but I feel like with my affinity for low tunings I should check one out some time.
I am interested in light gain sounds and pushed clean sounds. I think this combination of pickups, the stability of an inline and the strength of a bolt on neck covers all my bases. After having a Les Paul Special knocked over onstage years ago by a bandmate with a headstock destroyed, I am wary of using LP guitars at gigs. Bolt on necks are the safest most resilient and tellys are impactful sounding
Hey Steve! This does the crunchy lighter gain sounds very well. Sorry I didn't include more of those in here. I love Les Pauls and I like that this will scratch the LP itch with that extra scale length for a little more clarity on lower tunings and cleans... The pickups actually remind me a lot of 60s Burstbuckers! And the headstocks can be scary so that is one less thing to worry about here. Sorry to hear your LP took a fall but I hope it recovered well. Also, I got your email and will put it on a scale when I'm home from work to let you know the exact weight. I feel like it's less than 7 pounds though!
Hey, all I’m saying is with a 25.5” scale and heavy strings who even needs a baritone? 😌 I’m pretty light handed and I’ve taken it to c#/drop b with .10-.52 and had no issues with intonation or fret buzz
I got mine on Monday and wish the binding was more of an aged white as well. But, I’m looking high and low for a black 3 ply pickguard and would like to change the knobs mounting rings to black as well. I think it would look really good.
Tbh, a 25.5" scale LP would do well. Wouldn't be the first of its line, but an Epiphone model geared towards low tuning would probably be a hot ticket item.
I really hoped that Epiphone would've released a 25.5 LP around that time Gibson did a few years ago. They're great for metal tones, but being able to go a little lower on the tuning would be nice lol
Great video, thanks for shouting out how amazing Squier guitars are ❤ You'll get little flaws on virtually any instrument, why pay $1000s when you can get this qquality for under 500. I'm a bit confused though, did you record direct from the Line 6 Pod Express into Ableton or was the mic'd amp part of the chain?
Well the amp segment was just camera audio, the mic in the picture is there for some recording I was doing for a video on the amp. The rest of the video is the Pod Express right into Ableton! And yep, I’ve felt the same way about guitars. Especially because flaws are almost subjective for people nowadays. Thanks for watching!
I wish squier would put some of their money towards making lefty versions of their instruments. The budget line for the biggest guitar company in the world should have more than like, 4 left handed guitars
I can’t disagree with you. I feel like if anyone can manufacture lefty guitars feasibly it’s Fender. Whether it’s thru Squier or Charvel or whoever. With their level of operating I gotta imagine they could afford it and meet the demand that’s out there
Just give it to me on BLACK and i ll used for my DOOMMETAL compositions also nice to see it with the Gibson Tune-o-matic Bridge style but only 21 frets ?? man all this Guitars should be 24fs by default just saying Also would have it with Ebony fretboard just for perfection
I'm happy with the fretboard but ebony would look great! This would be great for doom. A lot of sounds I played around with reminded me of Type O Negative and earlier Melvins sounds, but it can go even doomier.
Go on Gibson . . . I'm (Fender) your huckleberry . . . send a cease and desist to Fender, I dare ya ! Love the troublemaker, because it is making trouble where it is needed.
I’m loving the amp! It’s not so easy to find an affordable and “pure” sounding amp these days. I haven’t tried a mic thru it yet, but it the past I’ve used the Rode M1 thru guitar/bass rigs and highly recommend it! It was $79 when I bought it. If I can find and xlr/quarter inch cable around here I’ll try it out and let you know what I think! Thanks for watching!
Thanks I really appreciate that! The neck feels slighter wider but also a little thinner too 🤔 but when I look at them they don’t look all that different. I’m gonna do a comparison video and use a contour gauge to get some actual measurements And I am gonna try to check out the Offset Tele for a video! I love the pickup configuration on that new one. Anything you’d like to see in that specifically?
I ordered one here but it still shows as out of stock everywhere, I’m looking for videos about it while mine doesn’t arrive... You’re the 2nd person I see posting a video about it, the other was a guy from Australia on Instagram. 😅 Where are you based?
Did you get gold or ebony? I’m in the United States! I bought it directly from Fender’s website and it took about 10 days to make it me cross-country… so I know the wait is tough. But trust me, it’s worth the wait. Let me know what you think of it when you get it!
I do! I’m happier with the bolt-on neck and more comfortable anchoring my hand on a tune-o-matic. I do like the Duncan in the bridge of the FMT more because it a little warmer, but that’s really only beneficial with gain for me so I’ll keep the stock pickups here… I’m thinking of switching to black plastics though! I’d probably have to get a custom pickguard made though…
Yep! I do really like the fresh take with their releases but the biggest plus for me is that regardless of price point or any of that stuff, the playability and the sound on the ones I've had is exactly what I want it to be. And under the hood - never had a single issue with a truss rod in a Squier whereas I can't say the same for Fender or Epiphone :(
Nice! They fixed the tele problems. 1. The headstock aesthetics 2. Them weak ass single coils! I actually really like the paranormal series in general. Very cool guitars. This one is no different. Love the way it looks. Very nice.
Yeah I've always felt very weird about the original tele headstock too lol. The humbuckers were the most surprising thing here to me. I'm so used to the Squier ceramincs that I was expecting that usual bright sound with a little less output from the alnicos but they go in a completely different direction. Thanks for watching!
@@sunnyhaair probably due to two reasons 1. Popularity of the Gold and Black combination being exploitable as the more "premier option" 2. Cost of gold plating if it is real gold and import tax to the us for gold, regardless of how small the amount of gold is. (probable a mere dollar per guitar in gold and maybe $5 per guitar in tax, i'd guess would be reasonable) Reason 1 is obviously the more influential reason, haha
Nice but no SS frets, i’d get one if they had them. I’ll stick to the other brands i can find and upgrade. I just bought a Tele style guitar for $250. SS frets, bone nut, full size CTS pots, locking tuners, Mahogany neck, Basswood body, free shipping. I haven’t got it yet but if i don’t like the pickups, that’ll be the only thing i upgrade. I’m at the point, that i no longer want the hassles of nickel frets.

Wish they made these with a tremolo too, would be a killer backup touring guitar for me, it might still be hahahahaha
You might be able to install a Duesenberg Les Trem to this as it has a pretty standard looking Tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece of a Gibson style guitar.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Squier role out a Fender Vintera II 70s Tele Deluxe with the trem at some point!
Same standard fender tension more suited to 9 guage?
sound good
Nice job dude
Thanks Mike!
I bought a Squier Baritone +/- 18 months ago. What's not to like? It more than meets my needs.
Freaking awesome Tele honestly... Might be better than my LP Studio lol
Studios are great! They'd make a nice pair
@@sunnyhaair I tried to grab your Tele in black, and it's sold out everywhere in Canada! Gold is still available though, might go for that
I love it it has a killer look and it’s like a Gibson and fender in one lol
I like it!
wtf, all I Google'd was, "Baritone 6 string electric guitar", and now I'm here. I think I want one lol
Hey, all I’m saying is with a 25.5” scale and heavy strings who even needs a baritone? 😌
I’m pretty light handed and I’ve taken it to c#/drop b with .10-.52 and had no issues with intonation or fret buzz
Just got mine today just wish the binding was aged white and double bounded body. But overall it’s really nice for the price
Congrats! Yeah I do love customs with the double binding but I don’t miss it too much here
I got mine on Monday and wish the binding was more of an aged white as well. But, I’m looking high and low for a black 3 ply pickguard and would like to change the knobs mounting rings to black as well. I think it would look really good.
An affordable gold top is on my bucket list. Figured it would be an Epi Les Paul but maybe not 🤔
The new Epi Les Pauls are really good, but I think this one could scratch the itch for you. Let me know what you end up going with!
looks great, but those pick up covers look gnarly for a brand new guitar.
I probably should’ve polished em up a touch but I too distracted playing it😅
Reverend have made something similar with the Gristle 90 - great guitar!
Is that the Greg Koch signature? I think I've seen that one before and it's great!
Yes,it’s the Koch signature - great guitar and very quiet noiseless pickups.
Now I'm just waiting for Gibson to come out with a Les Paul that's pretending to be a Telecaster...
Y'know, believe it or not the Les Paul Supreme with coil splits and the phase thing can actually do some pretty convincing Tele tones!
HH Telecasters don’t sound like LPs.
@@Baci302 They don't sound like Telecasters either...
That’s a nice guitar.
I wish everyone could play it. It’s a really special one!
Seems you got a bargain/keeper!
Absolutely 😁
Ohhh.... I like that.
Wow Wow!!!!
When you wan’t a Les Paul gold top, but have a thing for Fender?
That’s me spot on!
That's a sweet guitar1
🤘Too sweet one might say
Hi, do you think this guitar would be suited to playing classic rock?
Daaaang, that thing's pretty
And the camera barely does it justice!
I would totally put Gibson pups and wiring in this bad boi including a toggle with an orange cap ala gibson
That’s a great idea 🤔 A treble bleed mod and some Tom Anderson’s are seeming pretty tempting to me
got a Troublemaker Tele Goldtop 9/6/24 The only one they had at Guitar centr Hollywood. is it a Les Caster or a Tele Paul ?
🧐 telepaulster
Looks cool, Tone is ok, for that price , but not more
Yep they’re right on the money I think
I don't really like Teles, but I do like this one. If only it had 22 frets :'(
I wish squier would put some of their money towards making lefty versions of their instruments. The budget line for the biggest guitar company in the world should have more than like, 4 left handed guitars
I can’t disagree with you. I feel like if anyone can manufacture lefty guitars feasibly it’s Fender. Whether it’s thru Squier or Charvel or whoever. With their level of operating I gotta imagine they could afford it and meet the demand that’s out there
Just give it to me on BLACK and i ll used for my DOOMMETAL compositions
also nice to see it with the Gibson Tune-o-matic Bridge style
but only 21 frets ??
man all this Guitars should be 24fs by default
just saying
Also would have it with Ebony fretboard just for perfection
I'm happy with the fretboard but ebony would look great! This would be great for doom. A lot of sounds I played around with reminded me of Type O Negative and earlier Melvins sounds, but it can go even doomier.
Go on Gibson . . . I'm (Fender) your huckleberry . . . send a cease and desist to Fender, I dare ya ! Love the troublemaker, because it is making trouble where it is needed.
If only we can get Gibson to make a 25.5" bolt on neck, single coil...
Could you do a tool cover with it?
Totally! Which song?
@@sunnyhaair perhaps the grudge, id love to hear it!
On it! 🫡
It is a Les Paul, not that that’s bad if you like Fender, just that’s what it is.
Nice demo! Looks like an awesome guitar at a good price. Is it 24.75" scale or 25.5"?
Thanks! This is 25.5. I do think 24.75 like they’ve done on the Strat O Sonic would’ve been very cool!!
Telespaulcaster
🤔 Tel paul
Cool amp too. Have you used a mic while playing? Interested in a modest electric guitar vocal busking rig.
If it had a reverse headstock and 22 or 24 frets it'd be perfect
Maybe we’ll get something close in the Contemporary series one day 🤞
Great overview as always! How’s the neck compared to Affinity/CV? Are you planning on reviewing the Offset Telecaster SJ?
Thanks I really appreciate that! The neck feels slighter wider but also a little thinner too 🤔 but when I look at them they don’t look all that different. I’m gonna do a comparison video and use a contour gauge to get some actual measurements
And I am gonna try to check out the Offset Tele for a video! I love the pickup configuration on that new one. Anything you’d like to see in that specifically?
@@sunnyhaair looking forward to those! Mainly curious about the pickup and switching combinations in the Tele SJ.
Also, on the Troublemaker, does the bridge have similar radius as the neck or is it like the JMJM where the bridge has 10” radius?
I ordered one here but it still shows as out of stock everywhere, I’m looking for videos about it while mine doesn’t arrive... You’re the 2nd person I see posting a video about it, the other was a guy from Australia on Instagram. 😅 Where are you based?
Did you get gold or ebony? I’m in the United States! I bought it directly from Fender’s website and it took about 10 days to make it me cross-country… so I know the wait is tough. But trust me, it’s worth the wait.
Let me know what you think of it when you get it!
Are the pro bucker pick ups?
Nope, these are Fender designed alnicos. I think alnico 2s if I’m not mistaken
What scale lenght gibson or fender? Thanks this looks cool.
Fender scale
@@shawnregalado2991 Thank you!
Yep, 25.5. Sorry! Didn’t realize the strat o sonics are 24.75” until yesterday 😲
You like it better than the FMT Tele? Do you see yourself doing any mods to this?
Squire is your favorite brand?
What’s the cost!!!
$450 USD for Gold
$500 USD for Black
Yep $450… 🧐 wonder why it’s less than the Ebony 🧐
@@sunnyhaair probably due to two reasons
1. Popularity of the Gold and Black combination being exploitable as the more "premier option"
2. Cost of gold plating if it is real gold and import tax to the us for gold, regardless of how small the amount of gold is. (probable a mere dollar per guitar in gold and maybe $5 per guitar in tax, i'd guess would be reasonable)
Reason 1 is obviously the more influential reason, haha
need a southpaw verison
Are trying not to wake someone? Ha! JK. Loved the review.
Realistically what do we really expect from a guitar that costs a lil more than a guitar case ?
Yeah there’s gotta be a trade off somewhere
I’d darken that fretboard.
I can see why, I’ve thought about it too
Nice but no SS frets, i’d get one if they had them.
That deal seems like a steal! Did you get it yet? I’m curious about how you’re liking it
@@sunnyhaair I like it, it’s a real nice guitar.
It’s Tease Guitars, if you’re interested at taking a look at them.
