I appreciate you for this. This gem of a title has a deceptively simple aesthetic that belies a VASTLY more involved and interconnected RPG ecosystem. Would love to find more gems like these in Steam Store. Chronic save scumming aside, this game and its prequel deserve their praise they get! ❤
to this day i still dont know why primrose story is so dark... i mean the others character have their troubles and all but compare to primrose they are pretty tame in comparison
cyrus and therion have stories that are just as good as hers. cyrus has plenty of sinister moments when you connect yvon, lucia and from the far reaches of hell to lyblac and therion's story has plenty of suspense with where the dragonstones are. It isn't outrageous to say their narrative surpasses primrose in certain aspects
Thank you for this guide! I went in totally blind and beaten all chapter 1 scenarios, but when I reached chapter 2 I was destroyed by everything and dealt nearly no damage. Secondary jobs are a game changer, unlocking cities and shrines now before preparing for chapter 2 stories
@@TheRealFutureMillionaire really you played it? I am more into simpler things, and i hate being lost or not knowing what to do anymore! Getting old sux lol
I bought this when it came out. I think I played maybe 5-8 hours I don’t remember but I realllly want to get back into it and this video helped a lot thank you. The game really is gorgeous and fun.
I grew up playing rpgs like the snes final fantasies, chrono trigger, lunar and Lufia. This gem of a game fits right in with them. I fell in love with it almost instantly. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of old school rpgs. The sequel is right around the corner, and I can't wait to tear into it.
Some other recommendations that scratch that same itch are "Sea of Stars" and "Chained Echos". They are likewise successors to the JRPGs of old, with 16-bit styled graphics, turn-based combat, and developed with love by people who also nostalgic over those classics. I don't have an SNES anymore, but still fire up an emulator play Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6 (it was 3 back then...) every few years, those games will never lose their charm.
Thanks for the guide! Astonishingly I've managed to not play OT before, bumped into it in Game Pass and now I'm in love (especially with Primrose). I just got Cyrus to lvl 15, so these tips will come handy.
Been wanting to get this for so long and finally bought it the other day. I have not been dissatisfied at all! Reminds me of the jrpgs I played as a kid.
i like it when you can assemble a team you want, but i don't like the interchangeable stuff - once i chose my team, i don't want to change that and level the ones i didn't want anyway
Apothecary is probably best in the hands of either Obelic or H’aanit because Last Stand wrecks with them and they also make good tanks and pitch-healers.
Apothecary is one of the best jobs in the game, in terms of versatility. Several Axes do wonders for Elem. Atk, and with materials they can hit every elemental weakness for shield breaks. It's a shame they nerfed it a tad in OP2.
Excellent video! Just recently installed Octopath Traveler, as I missed some of the old turn based and just from the beginning, I'm loving the art direction:D

Very helpful! Finally picked this game up and have been blown away by it! Its a better final fantasy game than all of the final fanstasy games since FFX. The FF team seems to have lost the plot on what the fan base wants, and keeps doubling down on dark dreary emo worlds full of nihilistic pointlessness. Granted, im not against these kinds of stories, but when you start out that way and just double down on it through the whole game its just... Ugh. Life is hard enough! I want my game time to be fun! And i want to get swept up in a story. If the story goes dark for a few chapters then thats fine... Just dont drag us through the mud the entire way through! Octopath seems to get this, and it is full of little ups and downs through the story so far, and it is just such a nice escape. Such a great combo of good yurn based combat and bite-sized story telling. Its not perfect, but man is it the best thing ive played from square in at least a decade!
Just discovered this game on gamepass and loving it, looking forward to the second one. Great presentation, love (what is to my ears) your accent. Subed

For the sake of assembling an every-use party, would it be a good idea to avoid doubling up on potential path actions (ie avoid having Olberic and H'aanit in the same party whenever possible)?
I always try to avoid doubling up on path actions....funnily enough, I recently uploaded a video on the best party setup in Octopath :) it's the most recent upload, hope it helps

Nice video, when you choose a character to play with & recruit other characters, when you play a new story with a different character do you have to level up other characters from scratch or will they have that same level??
I can't actually remember to be very honest with you but I do know that each character needs to be levelled up individually, XP does not carry over to other characters
By the time you get all characters you should be around level 20. Go to "tier 2 zones", the ones leading to chapter 2 stories for characters to level up a bit. Or go around, explore a bit and find the job shrines, this will make your characters much more powerful. I just finished olberic chapter 2, my characters are around lvl 30-35. Olberic is warrior/apothecary, cyrus is scholar/merchant, ophilia is cleric/dancer and therion is thief/hunter. This lets me cover all weaknesses and every character has AoE abilities.
Do all my characters need to be level 20? or just my main character? I’ve been trying to do Therion’s chapter 2 story but it hasn’t been working out very well. Haven’t found any shrines yet tho.
@@SupahTheSnowy Im leveling only the 4 im using at the moment, the rest are around level 13. Probably gonna clear all 4 chapters for each of my party before i switch in the low level ones. The enemies are weak to spears bows and wind iirc. edit: its my first time running through the game and im playing more or less blind but i think having cyrus(merchant support job) or tressa(scholar support job) is a must. Almost every enemy is weak to fire, ice, thunder or wind so far and having 2hit aoe spells makes breaking enemies extremely easy. Try adding one of the 2 into your party it will make it much easier. Therion is a permanent member more or less unless you dont care about the locked chests or dont mind sometimes backtracking. Also i suggest walking everywhere and doing side quests, money seems like the #1 issue for me so far.

@@Amalgamingle I agree. The concept of the video is nice, but a video about things to know BEFORE playing that starts with a spoiler warning and suggesting you should come back after starting the game is not very useful. Maybe try to organize the first tips to not have spoilers and announce in the middle of the video that the next section will have spoilers IDK, I will save the video and maybe check it out later, but now I will look for a video without spoilers
I totally understand what you are saying and it really depends on what you would consider to be a spoiler. Personally I don't think gameplay elements are spoilers but if I didn't put a spoiler warning in, people would have got on my case about not including a spoiler alert (they always do, even when there's literally no spoilers).
