I can’t believe people are walking around smelling that like “uhhh it smells like burning chemicals” yea that’s because it is and it’s toxic and of course they’re going to lie and say it’s not
Where have you been, hiding under a rock? There has been numerous battery fires, burning down houses buildings and on and on, I'll take oil Any day compared to this enviramental disaster in the making
Dude, it’s from the Lithium battery storage facility in Escondido. It’s on SDG&E’s property, so they are not going to own up to the problem and confess that is where the smell has originated from. Come on, news people, get real on this one. 🧠
yes very ordinary for the smell to blanket the county suddenly 12 hours after the fire is out, lol and when the wind is blowing it away from affected areas
Arrived in OB between 11:00 and 11:45 am. As a builder, I was cutting stucco for about 45 minutes with a mask on. There was no smell while I had the mask on, but when I took it off around 11:45, I noticed a strong odor. I was working near an alley garage and initially thought I might have cracked or nicked a 2" grey water line connected to the sewage. However, when I stepped 25 feet south from under the overhang (you know how some houses extend over the back alley with parking below the second story?), I realized the smell seemed to be coming from above. The odor peaked for about 15 minutes and then started to reduce. The most plausible reason for the smell could be methane gas venting due to back pressure on the sewer system, which can have a rotten egg or sulfur-like odor. Other possible reasons could include increased sewage flow coming from the south or large-scale natural decay occurring nearby
I saw a video the other day that there are hundreds of thousands of old gas wells in the U.S. that were never sealed up. Some were even found under houses. They are leaking methane. See: Meet The Retired Oil Exec Plugging Forgotten Wells To Reduce Emissions | World Wide Waste They are sealing wells in the US

On Friday we smelled something that smelled like a cross between a car repair shop, car exhaust, and dirty ocean water. The smell was very strong. This was just north of Camp Pendleton across the county line into OC and it was a south wind that day. Yesterday, the wind switched so maybe that all blew south back into San Diego county. It was really gross smelling.
I have smelled similar in previous heat waves where the wind direction reverses and comes from the hot deserty inland instead of the ocean and bringing smells with it. Perhaps pollution/smog from Mexico, or ag chemicals, or ?? I smelled it so many times before I assumed it was a known phenomenon and was surprised the news was surprised.
Keep complaining about SDG&E & Fossil Fuels. You've had power available ALL YOUR LIFE at the flick of a switch. The War on Fossil Fuel costs us all. Show some gratitude you ingrate. Someone else did all the work to provide it & you complain. Go live in a cave.
On Friday in San Clemente it was terrible, smelled like a cross between a car repair shop, exhaust, and dirty ocean water. When the moon came up, it was brown. It was a south wind on Friday but switched to north yesterday. I'll bet it was the same smell. Makes me think it was something from Camp Pendleton.
That Company has provided power at the flick of a switch all our lives. Pretty convienent eh ? The War on Fossil Fuel raises prices for all. Don't want your house to burn down ? Don't live in Fire Prone Areas.
100% not, the smell came long after that tiny fire in Escondido was basically out, the wind was blowing from the south west when the smell hit Encinitas at 1:30.
It is like a burning rubber/paint smell to me. I take allergy medicine regularly because I have allergies and normally I am fine with the allergies meds. Since this smell started on Friday my sinuses have been inflamed, I am sneezing, and I sound nasally, I have had a headache, I have felt generally icky. There is no way that it is anything organic!
We've been at Carlsbad beach for 3 days. The wind was ALWAYS coming off the ocean. If it's from Esco, it blew off the coast then came back at Carlsbad.

@@ManambeLavaka I am sorry. I am not trying to be mean but the only logical explanation for this is that the smell came from the lithium battery fire. They will probably be sued anyway because of the disruption to the businesses there. That's all.

The Ion Lithium Battery storage facility is burning and of course you can't put that kind of fire out easily...so enviramentally friendly
One battery fire vs decades of burning fossil fuels. Yeah this is a no brainer.
