CoTA SRF Race 1 85 cars!

- Circuit of the Americas, Spec Racer Ford race from Saturday, March 9, 2013. 85 SRF's took the green flag and almost all of them saw the checkered. This was the first ever SRF race on the track. The facility and the track itself are amazing. Instant classics and among the best in North America.
This battle is between the top 4 cars, Stripling (camera), Verges (blue/white), Futrelle (blue/black), and Harris (red).
This video shows all but one lap (Stripling leading, not much to see) including all of the passes and near-passes.
Around 23:45 is where it all goes wrong for me. Radiator fluid on track, I lifted when the leader hit it which caused me to tank slap badly, putting me off the exit. That was compounded when my downshift to 3rd became a momentary upshift to 5th. Then I thought we could go 2-wide into T20 but that wasn't to be, putting me off on the astroturf for braking, which is never optimal.
From there I just had to put my head down and run the top 3 back down in two laps... you can see the results on the vid.
Hopefully the thought bubbles aren't too much.

Enjoy!
Best and most amusing use of "thought bubbles" ever.
Great race too.
Dude, the thought bubbles made the video. And what a thrilling finish... I want to race SRF now!
cannot wait to have this track on iRacing and drive the spec racer round it, this video makes it look epic!
Nice job. Don't you just love it when you find a section of track that you just "get" better than everyone else? Even if it's just a couple tenths, it still feels good.
Love your on screen moments, really brings the race to life.
If they broadcasted on live tv I would definitely watch! Nice driving!
This looks like such a blast. I remember watching the video of you hooning about at the road america nationals and thought that livery looked familiar... Great stuff once again!
Very awesome, thank you for sharing! Great racing. Cheers!
I love the thought bubbles! Great video!
Great driving, great video - keep racing and sharing!
Great video, and the thought bubbles were pretty fun. I race the SRF on iRacing, wish I could try the real car some day. And iRacing should scan CotA ASAP, awesome track!
These cars look like a blast to race. Im sure this is a fixed set up series. Too much fun.
watching people bump draft in road racing is awesome.
"Me gusta" hahaha! Awesome video!
Just finished watching... fantastic race, great driving!
not bad man - that was an exciting race! man, would I love to get involved with this...
Really nice final turn :)
Great video! That race looks like it was too much fun
Great stuff! keep it up!
That was fun to watch ;) what a finish !
Great video of your race Denny. I raced with your class many years ago (SRR), and know the "freight train" style of racing. One observation I made is you use the curbs allot. My experience was doing that upset the car and cost speed. It might just have been my car, a Formula 4, but it could also be a good tip to gain a little advantage. I wish you all the best in future races.
Hey Dennis, yes using up curbs in our cars can be beneficial based on the curb and how it affects the corner radius. We run much higher than you would in a formula car and as such, with the extra suspension travel, the curbs aren't quite as wicked in most cases. There are places where the curbs are not to be touched though based on a lot of variables. Thanks for watching and posting!
Thanks for the explanation. Yes our cars were very low, 2" tops, so what you say makes sense. I'm retired from racing now, but watching your videos makes it feel like I am back in the car. Keep them coming.
This track seems like so much fun
SRF are really fun, race them on iRacing, really liked the NASCAR bumping style on 15:05 :D
good videos man!!!
Nice video. The thought bubbles add to it a lot.
What program do you use to add them? I like Windows Movie Maker but there doesn't seem to be a way to add them with it.
He did this with a bleedin H-pattern 😮 I thought srf’s had been a sequential lever before the paddle shifters that’s so wild
Would you try to do a race where there's at least 70 cars plus from the back? I want to see a charge to the front :D
yo I got a question, can you make a vid about how to get into the scca? Nice vids btw
Good racing. Have you ever driven this car on iRacing.com? You car appears to a lot more stable than it seems on iRacing.
Nice run, too bad about the slippery stuff.
You think you can be a driver from a famous series like Tudor challenge?
that wahoo giddy up lol!
This looks like a really fun race class. Are these cars expensive to buy/maintain? Just curious
Hey Hoffie, in the grand scheme of racing these cars are very, very affordable. Otherwise I wouldn't be racing them. ;)
You can by an excellent used car that can win races for 15-17k and most of your expenses will be travel, tires, and entry fees. More info at www.specracer.com
Thanks for watching and posting!
Curious what the top speed on the back (long) straight is for these cars? I know you prob don't have a speedo in the car just curious if you knew (telemetry data maybe)?
Hey Daryl, yep, low 120MPH range, maybe 122-123 in a draft. These cars are designed more for cornering/braking than top speed. Thanks for watching and posting!
what does it mean when you wave your hand at him like a tomahawk?
That means “let’s work together, I’ll draft you and won’t pass right now”. Thanks for watching!
I hate the fact that my trash pick-up company sponsors your car. They can't figure out how to pick up my trash on the day they're supposed to.
Killer racing though, dude.
Are these cars steering wheels quick release?
Some are, mine is not. That's an option you can put on the cars. There are a couple of choices of seat and those who use the more constrictive aluminum seat often opt for the quick release wheel for ease of ingress/egress.
ok thanks
Amazing race! omg =) I have a fell questions, do you have Skype?
Hey VMB, look me up on Facebook - Denny Stripling. Thanks!
Ok, i take your facebook! thanks Denny!
