Sane Trilogy, the final boss theme from Crash 3 sounds also like a battle between good and evil, and funny enough that's exactly what's happening (Crash vs Cortex but also literally Aku Aku vs Uka Uka)

I honestly think that despite not including the main guitar leitmotif, this track has a very intense feel thanks to percussions (especially 1:10), which fits perfectly for a final boss fight.
And it just keeps getting more intense from that point on. Also, I don't know why. But the beginning with Crash 1 theme is just so satisfying to hear when it loops!
@@babai08_ normally I'd say yes but this feels less like a Cortex theme and a Crash AND Cortex theme Since you have Crash's theme mixed with Cortex's from Crash 3 with whimsical sounds mixed with threatening sounds, which fits for both a lot.
The boss fight look reminded me a little of Crash Bash. I mean the way the platform was layed out with all the squares. The actual fight itself reminded me a tiny bit of Wrath of Cortex as in different masks being used. Just no Crunch of course 😃. Fantastic game.
What if Cortex puts his past self in harm's way, knowing that if Paleo Cortex dies then he, Crash and Coco won't exist. So he's forcing Crash to save him in a "take the bullet instead" way. He's basically luring Crash into getting killed by putting his own existence on the line. That would be an interesting boss fight, cuz Cortex is willing to end his own life if it means the bandicoots die too, and Crash has to save Paleo Cortex from his future self while fighting Neo Cortex all at the same time.

Introduce a simple phrase, then add length with some basic accompaniment that has very little going on in terms of melody, occasional leitmotif jingle for a reminder of what the music belongs to even though it could just write a whole melody segment instead. All I hear is just accompaniment that doesn't want to distract from what's happening, which results with barely any harmonies to speak of. It sounded like basic tv show music so I wanted to see if the person had worked on tv shows before, and they had. I'd describe a lot of Crash 4 music as theme and filler. There's barely any variation or development of themes, as the lead appears once and after that it's basically gone until it returns back to repeat the theme. Sometimes there's an additional modulation, but it's still basically just the A part again. Josh Mancell has indeed worked on tv before, but his songs in the games have proper structure and flow to them, actual progression and development so the tv style of composing didn't carry over. The somewhat expressive harmonies are cartoon inspired, but the song structures are more prog rock, resulting with music that isn't afraid of standing out more. I doubt this comment will convince you seeing as how you started with personal claims, but what ever.

Cortex could not just pop in where past Crash was. He needed to make his way through the castle as well. His first plan was trying to convince his past self, but after that failed he tries to do it himself, but Crash and Coco get in the way.
Neo Cortex is confusing to me. Why would he first reform to stop N. Tropy, and then decide to remove Crash from existence? And if he’s a human, why is he yellow?
Because Tropy was gonna erase HIM from existance. Can't take over the world if some other villain kicks you to curb first. And he's not human, he's a walking cheese. Obviously. :P
As cool as this battle was, it was a MAJOR letdown to see N.Tropy NOT being the final boss after it was practically established that he WOULD be the final boss. Even worse, he was defeated so easily! I would have accepted this if Cortex had planned to betray N.Tropy from the beginning, but no, he just stuck with the guy. LAME.
@@neilbowes7214 I think thematically, it would have been neat to see Cortex reluctantly help Crash, like Twinsanity to take down a greater adversary of evil, like N Tropy. It would also make it one of the few games where Cortex isn't the final boss, which I think is a fresh change in pace. It shows that change is possible, otherwise things begin to stagnate - Sort of like Mega Man having the same villain 11 times in a row. It's predictable, and I don't like that.
Eh. Not really. Cortex is usually alwasy the final boss, because he's the main villain. He was much smarter than N. Tropy, actually waiting for his time to strike rather than N. Tropy revealing his own plan.

They had the plan together, Tropy just made a stupid decision to work with a female version of himself. Cortex joined Crash to defeat him, then made an even better plan when Tropy was out of the picture. Cortex was and always will be the true villian.
