So, it sounded to a lot of us like they were signalling disbandment. Particularly when Hwasa and Wheein, the childhood friends, who traveled together to Seoul to become idols, harmonized on "The two of us shared the same dream, where are we now?" Mumumumuch healed a lot of that angst and showed again the strength of their bond. 1,2,3 Eoi! is full of references. I mostly notice things in the choreo, but if you're hearing things in the beats I'm sure it's there.
You're right about 1,2,3 Eoi! having similar vibes as Dingga, Waggy, and I'd even add Dangdang. That's because Moonbyul participated in all 4 songs' lyrics writing, and some also had Solar and Hwasa too (Dangdang was written by Solar, Moonbyul, and Hwasa 😁, it was originally supposed to be the title track for Yellow Flower, but Solar had an accident and hurt her back, thus unable to do choreos with too much movements, so they changed the song to Starry Night), and they also participated in the composition of some of these songs too. :D

WAW: you're right in your theory! it's kind of a reflection of their journey as a group, and the album was released in mid 2021 right around the time their contracts were about to expire. Where are we now was a dark era kind of.. Because we already knew Wheein is gonna leave the company so the future of the group was kind of uncertain.. Also there were still covid restrictions going on so that was generally also very hard for the members.. They released mumumumuch at the very end of a concert which was supposed to be super big (potentially in a stadium) but happened online in the end due to covid. For me personally it was a "dont worry we will continue" song and we were all so loud and obsessed with the song that even members and company staffs were surprised. We were like spamming everywhere when will it be released 😂
The outfits in Illella are actually references to each of their solo works under RBW. So Solar’s pink outfit is similar to a combination of her outfits in her Honey MV, Wheein is wearing a red outfit to reference her Redd album, Hwasa is wearing a lime green to represent her recent Guilty Pleasure album, and Moonbyul’s looks similar to her main outfit in Lunatic video. Even the white outfits reference their solos. Hwasa’s looks like her straight jacket look from Maria, Wheein’s has a similar vibe to the white leotard splattered with red paint that she wore for teasers/promos for her red album( the one she’s wearing in the album cover), Moonbyul’s looks almost identical to a stage outfit she wore for Lunatic, and Solar’s has a similar vibe to her Spit It Out outfit with the cropped shirt. Sometimes Mamamoo becomes the heart and soul of kpop and I'd argue that WAWN is one of those times. If you haven't heard of WAWN before it's probably because it wasn't a hit. They only promoted it for a week on the tv music shows and did a performance with a band on the It's Live channel. It was my pick for 2021 SOTY and is my favorite song of the four. It's one of their main vocal masterpieces among their original recordings. I'll share my theory about a couple of images in the WAWN MV. When they come together after their solo scenes we see them from overhead standing in a formation that looks like an upside down and backwards 7 or an unfinished 4. Imo it's both: 7 years have passed and the four of them aren't done yet. In the next scene they're in the field surrounded by spotlights shining into the night sky. I think the spotlights represent moomoos, who have always surrounded them with love and support and helped lift them to stardom just as they've lifted our spirits to the heavens. Haven't watched Illella in many months. Seeing it this time made me think the transportation theme throughout the MV was a spoiler that they were taking Mic On on the road as the My Con semi-world tour. When Illella came out I couldn't figure out what was up with the helipad, bikes, shopping carts, truck, motorcycles, car and even Hwasa's mechanical bull lol but I think that's the answer. Thanks for the new revelation. You called Illella pop and it is but it's also another reggaeton based song like Egotistic. 1, 2, 3 Eoi! is their team chant. It was the opening song in the My Con concerts, which was a great way to invite everyone to party with Mamamoo. Who else would do a crack song based on their team chant? I hear shades of New York in the funky bass line.
All of the Behind-The-Scenes stuff for 'Where Are We Now' is a really great thing to see, it makes people appreciate the song even more. Some of us were SO SCARED that they were going to break up as a group because we had not heard that they had re-Signed with RBW. It FELT like a goodbye song to a LOT of people. We then later fond out they had re-Signed and breathed a sigh of relief and cried some more.
They have a documentary for WAW. It's really good and heartbreaking to see their struggles come to light but their bond glued them together. Where are we now is pretty much what you think it is but more about them as a group then induviduals. It was the last song before their contracts were up for renewal and it's perfect for that. Where are we now after 7 years of Mamamoo and were are we going from there. Around that time they also filmed their documentary that shows their struggles as induviduals and as a group, and talks about why Wheein chose to leave RBW for Solo work. 1, 2, 3, Eoi! is the cheer they always do before going on stage and so on. It's full of refrences the beats are just a small part of it. For example Strawberry is delicious, Solar eating stawberrys on Solarsido with the green part because she wanted to save time by not cuting them and Cat is cute, Ggomo. They even used their greeting I say Mama Mamamoo as lyrics.
So WAW was released during the pandemic which is also why it didn't get much promotion. The accompanying movie is a must watch. It is available on YT but not easy to find. A friend of a friend can point you to it, kinda thing. The movie is broken into 4 chapters. And very well produced. Again it's a must see for any MooMoo. MAMAMOO didn't really promote Where are We Now and Mumumumuch, since WAWN was a ballad (no group will release a ballad song in Summer, much less an entire album filled with only ballads... 😅), and RBW didn't even do any promotion for I SAY MAMAMOO: The Best album, at all.. and the girls just used the excuse of "it's released as a gift for Moomoos"... which I'd never buy in to that. 🙃
Where Are We Now will make you cry.. or maybe that was just me. I do wish Byul got a bit more lines since we know she can hold her own as a vocalist. The Where Are We Now has some does to other songs via the props seen in the trailer. The end with them in the dresses and lights is iconic.. Byul’s dress is nicknamed “shuttlecock” by some fans.. myself included. It is a sing about their journey as Mamamoo. And it was before we knew the decision on some of the member’s contracts. WAW being an album of basically just ballads. The ending with them sitting in the trailer with ice cream reads as a direct reference to Wind Flower. Mumumumuch is a great song. I love Byul’s rap. And Solar being “beast” arm move cracks me up. Mamamoo have done so many different things that I don’t think they have a “style” like most groups do because of that diverse discography from Starry Night , HIP, GoGobebe, Egotistic, Piano Man, Decalcomanie to more fun/leas serious songs like Freaking Shoes, Recepie, AZE GAG, Um Oh Ah Yea, Taller then You, Sleep in the car. Ilella is a great track, I love the black and the white outfits. I think there was a slight starry night ode in the choreography.. or many it’s in 1 2 3 Eoi’s. I love 1,2,3 Eoi it has its own fun little moments.
Mumumumuch MV has a lot of throw backs to previous songs. The purple mountains from starry night, the hammer from 1 CM and AZE GAG, the bed from your the best and many more. 1llella is a great song, it is impossible to resist moving to it. The I hate sunshine pants Wheein is wearing are actually Solar's you saw Solar wearing it on Solarsido in the MoobByul Solar part switch video. No idea why Solar had them, and no idea why Wheein is wearing them in this MV. and this song also has a lot references to past songs.
Uff I still remember the heartbreak I felt when I first heard "Where are we now" I was just discovering MMM and the song sounded so much like a goodbye song, cause like everyone said the girls haven't say anything regarding what they will do, so moomoos were afraid that they were gonna split and I was heartbroken because I just knew them. 😢 And then they were stronger than ever. 🤩

It really felt like me when I watch them a couple of years ago and how I felt when I was there during a Comeback. It's always so good to see the reaction when someone saw them the first time. Will you do maybe some fancams in the future for concerts? There are always so funny and good to see them. I saw them live when there where in Germany for Kpopflex on both days and I really love the fancams there. Because they Perform mumumuch there too (also aya, gogobebe and hip). Everyone has done a pretty good job of talking about WAW so I will talk about 2021 in general instead. 2021 was a year of incredible highs and lows for Mamamoo and Moo Moos. Mamamoo really stepped up their schedules in the lead up until June and there were often performances more than once a week. Studio Moon Night was just getting started and MC Moonbyul was winning the hearts of so many people. Redd was released in April and was actually well supported with lots of content, which was a surprise because by then Wheein was the only member who hadn't resigned to RBW. Out of everything in 2021, Moos were most excited about the anniversary album and concert. I Say Mamamoo: The Best really exceeded expectations and is still in heavy rotation for me. But there was a lot of darkness too. The anniversary concert got pushed back several times because C-19 restriction prevented an in-person audience and SK kept being wishy-washy about whether they were going to ease restrictions or not. What was supposed to be in the spring ended up happening in August! Where Are We Now was supposed to debut at the concert and it was important for Mamamoo to release something on their anniversary so a mini album was assembled somewhat hastily. Wheein's contract was hanging over our heads for 6 months and RBW kept making passive aggressive announcements about it, creating tension where none really existed. Then her contract news dropped around the same time as WAWN and people were panicking, even though it was made expressly clear that Wheein would not be leaving Mamamoo. A big bone of contention was promotions of WAWN and mumumumuch. Basically starting with WAWN, Mamamoo has promoted for one week only and they didn't promote mumumumuch at all. The latter is likely because Purple Kiss released Zombie a week later and in general Mamamoo are sensitive seniors who would never do a comeback at the same time as their juniors. The anniversary concert was just a mess from start to finish. Technical difficulties made it impossible for people outside of Asia to watch the concert and most of us ended up watching it on Twitch. 😭😭 At the end of 2021 Hwasa released Guilty Pleasure and it was paid DUST. Most people didn't even know she had dropped an album! It's so weird because I fell even more in love with Hwasa as a vocalist around that time and it was so sad that her album was largely forgotten. this is long af so I'm gonna do a part 2 comment where I discuss the other reasons 2021 is kind of a void for Moos
The real villain of 2021 is RBW. Period. 2021 was a super important year for RBW because they made an IPO and became a publicly traded company AND acquired WM Music(Oh My Girl!; Lee Chaeyeon) & DSP Media(Kard). In that IPO statement, RBW said that they were going to rely more on ONEUS and ONEWE for income and rely less on Mamamoo. By itself it's a reasonable statement but seeing the way they handled Wheein's contract situation made it clear that they felt safe to treat their senior artists like trash. Mamamoo's albums started being more delicate and flimsy and during a live Moonbyul was working on album contents for an album that was about 10 days from release. Right before Redd was released there was a company document that was leaked saying that RBW, as a company, believes in the One China policy(it's a complicated mess and Google/YT can explain it better than me). That caused Chinese Moos, specifically in Hong Kong & Taiwan, to cancel their pre-orders of Redd en masse. RBW's response was to blame a rogue employee who was fired and never named. The anniversary concert debacle was largely due to RBW not wanting to find another venue, one better suited to an online concert, and it was just childish of them to expect restrictions to lift. A long time Mamamoo producer, Park Woosang(check out his YT channel LOGOS), left RBW around the same time as Wheein and that cast a lot of doubt about Mamamoo having people who really listen to them and respect them as artists in the company. Unrelated & related to Mamamoo, in the IPO there was contract information AND enlistment information and it caused a lot of discord in most fandoms except Purple Kiss and Lee Chaeyeon. So we know the end dates of everyone's contract and RBW knows that we know. A lot of Moos are haters when it comes to ballads but honestly WAWN just represents a whole year's worth of negativity for many of us.

MAMAMOO didn't really promote Where are We Now and Mumumumuch, since WAWN was a ballad (no group will release a ballad song in Summer, much less an entire album filled with only ballads... 😅), and RBW didn't even do any promotion for I SAY MAMAMOO: The Best album, at all.. and the girls just used the excuse of "it's released as a gift for Moomoos"... which I'd never buy in to that. 🙃
Where Are We Now will make you cry.. or maybe that was just me. I do wish Byul got a bit more lines since we know she can hold her own as a vocalist. The Where Are We Now has some does to other songs via the props seen in the trailer. The end with them in the dresses and lights is iconic.. Byul’s dress is nicknamed “shuttlecock” by some fans.. myself included. It is a sing about their journey as Mamamoo. And it was before we knew the decision on some of the member’s contracts. WAW being an album of basically just ballads. The ending with them sitting in the trailer with ice cream reads as a direct reference to Wind Flower.
Mumumumuch is a great song. I love Byul’s rap. And Solar being “beast” arm move cracks me up. Mamamoo have done so many different things that I don’t think they have a “style” like most groups do because of that diverse discography from Starry Night , HIP, GoGobebe, Egotistic, Piano Man, Decalcomanie to more fun/leas serious songs like Freaking Shoes, Recepie, AZE GAG, Um Oh Ah Yea, Taller then You, Sleep in the car.
Ilella is a great track, I love the black and the white outfits. I think there was a slight starry night ode in the choreography.. or many it’s in 1 2 3 Eoi’s. I love 1,2,3 Eoi it has its own fun little moments.

Mumumumuch MV has a lot of throw backs to previous songs. The purple mountains from starry night, the hammer from 1 CM and AZE GAG, the bed from your the best and many more. 1llella is a great song, it is impossible to resist moving to it. The I hate sunshine pants Wheein is wearing are actually Solar's you saw Solar wearing it on Solarsido in the MoobByul Solar part switch video. No idea why Solar had them, and no idea why Wheein is wearing them in this MV. and this song also has a lot references to past songs.

There's a pre-debut MV called Don't Be Happy that I haven't seen you react to, unless I missed it on the list. It's a neat song, one of my favorites.
Everyone has done a pretty good job of talking about WAW so I will talk about 2021 in general instead. 2021 was a year of incredible highs and lows for Mamamoo and Moo Moos. Mamamoo really stepped up their schedules in the lead up until June and there were often performances more than once a week. Studio Moon Night was just getting started and MC Moonbyul was winning the hearts of so many people. Redd was released in April and was actually well supported with lots of content, which was a surprise because by then Wheein was the only member who hadn't resigned to RBW. Out of everything in 2021, Moos were most excited about the anniversary album and concert. I Say Mamamoo: The Best really exceeded expectations and is still in heavy rotation for me.
But there was a lot of darkness too. The anniversary concert got pushed back several times because C-19 restriction prevented an in-person audience and SK kept being wishy-washy about whether they were going to ease restrictions or not. What was supposed to be in the spring ended up happening in August! Where Are We Now was supposed to debut at the concert and it was important for Mamamoo to release something on their anniversary so a mini album was assembled somewhat hastily. Wheein's contract was hanging over our heads for 6 months and RBW kept making passive aggressive announcements about it, creating tension where none really existed. Then her contract news dropped around the same time as WAWN and people were panicking, even though it was made expressly clear that Wheein would not be leaving Mamamoo. A big bone of contention was promotions of WAWN and mumumumuch. Basically starting with WAWN, Mamamoo has promoted for one week only and they didn't promote mumumumuch at all. The latter is likely because Purple Kiss released Zombie a week later and in general Mamamoo are sensitive seniors who would never do a comeback at the same time as their juniors. The anniversary concert was just a mess from start to finish. Technical difficulties made it impossible for people outside of Asia to watch the concert and most of us ended up watching it on Twitch. 😭😭 At the end of 2021 Hwasa released Guilty Pleasure and it was paid DUST. Most people didn't even know she had dropped an album! It's so weird because I fell even more in love with Hwasa as a vocalist around that time and it was so sad that her album was largely forgotten.
this is long af so I'm gonna do a part 2 comment where I discuss the other reasons 2021 is kind of a void for Moos
The real villain of 2021 is RBW. Period. 2021 was a super important year for RBW because they made an IPO and became a publicly traded company AND acquired WM Music(Oh My Girl!; Lee Chaeyeon) & DSP Media(Kard). In that IPO statement, RBW said that they were going to rely more on ONEUS and ONEWE for income and rely less on Mamamoo. By itself it's a reasonable statement but seeing the way they handled Wheein's contract situation made it clear that they felt safe to treat their senior artists like trash. Mamamoo's albums started being more delicate and flimsy and during a live Moonbyul was working on album contents for an album that was about 10 days from release. Right before Redd was released there was a company document that was leaked saying that RBW, as a company, believes in the One China policy(it's a complicated mess and Google/YT can explain it better than me). That caused Chinese Moos, specifically in Hong Kong & Taiwan, to cancel their pre-orders of Redd en masse. RBW's response was to blame a rogue employee who was fired and never named. The anniversary concert debacle was largely due to RBW not wanting to find another venue, one better suited to an online concert, and it was just childish of them to expect restrictions to lift. A long time Mamamoo producer, Park Woosang(check out his YT channel LOGOS), left RBW around the same time as Wheein and that cast a lot of doubt about Mamamoo having people who really listen to them and respect them as artists in the company. Unrelated & related to Mamamoo, in the IPO there was contract information AND enlistment information and it caused a lot of discord in most fandoms except Purple Kiss and Lee Chaeyeon. So we know the end dates of everyone's contract and RBW knows that we know. A lot of Moos are haters when it comes to ballads but honestly WAWN just represents a whole year's worth of negativity for many of us.
