just got the spark amp 5 days ago and i feel there is a lack of tutorial materials from positive grid. But fortunately, you are here to help us Jason ! continue this great job

I know this is an older video, but I've been lucky enough to get my hands on one of the new Spark Live amps, and the video function works great! The key is to use the spark amps usb c audio data output (for use as an audio interface), set your input levels, and hit record. The app will record from the gear you have connected, rather than the iPads built in mic. You can plug in monitor headphones too, so that the amp is silent and the mic doesn't pick up any of the background noise, and use it as you would any other audio interface.
I'm new to positive grid and have just purchased the Live as an all an one interface for recording demo videos or audio alone, and so far, it has performed brilliantly!
I don't know if the original Spark 40 had a usb out for use as an audio interface, but their newer products seem to have this function, which makes the video option make a lot more sense. Possibly a feature added with their upcoming products in mind, so maybe a bit ahead of its time, but from my limited time using it as of now, it's a great feature!
I'm going to get properly stuck into it over the weekend and record some videos, so we'll see how that goes.....
cool, I'm playing live more so I thought of getting that too. There is a usb port and the Spark 40 will act as an audio interface, but other than the headphone jack, that's the only output unless you mod it with a line out.
That feature us hopeless if it does not overlay audio output from the guitar chain over the video recording ?

With an add on for Google Chrome you can capture any sound source in your tab.
Can you elaborate more on this. I have a Samsung galaxy tablet and use UA-cam music and Spotify to play music, but I'm having trouble downloading an actual song file on my tablet.
If there is no audiobus connectivity with Garage Band or other DAWs for a proper audio recording, then i really see no use for the feature. One could always import an audio background file into Garage Band, have a separate for the Spark signal coming through the USB out cable from the amp, shoot the video with your phone and then align the tracks. Not an easy feat for a first timer, but after having a couple weeks’ experience under your belt, that gets easy
R.C. Costi you can record the audio using GarageBand on the same iPad, but then you have to stitch the video and audio together which seems pointless.
Jason Little any other option than stitching, in this case, to get pristine audio and video, using one’s own files for backup, guitar played through the Spark?
This is a big reason I want a Spark amp. I want to be able to quickly capture video, playing over backing tracks. I only have an iPhone. Currently - I have to plug my iPhone into my amp via aux, import backing tracks to GarageBand, allow it to play while not in app, hit play, then go to my camera app and record (with iPhone positioned against my current amp - THR10). This will fix all of this! Do you know if it can record line out or only with the mic?
My understanding was that the video features purpose was to record the input of the guitar rather than the ipad mic therefore avoiding the extra effort of removing / replacing the recorders inferior mic audio with the spark's input. If that is true, that would save some time in post vid editing. Is that not the case?
I’ll try again with 1.7, but the first test I did it only recorded the audio from the mic.
The same also in my tries. I think there is no point to include such a feature in the app if it doesn't get the line in sound.
I agree - also opened a support ticket about this - this feature is not ready IMO. I hope they will improve it.

yeah, saw the comment, just didn't get a chance to try it out until today! I'm surprised there weren't other more important 'big' features to do first!
@@cleverdood yeah....but..i think they are trying to appeal to you hobby guitar player,,,,players such as yourself know the "in and outs"with all of this....i admit im just an average guy who loves listening and trying to absorb your know how....but i also thought that this would have been more down the road..anyway..love your input on everything..and love your guitar riff in this!
Doesn’t work for me. Every single time I try an add a .mp3 file to play along with, I get an “OSStatus error”

So its possible to use the shure video kit mv88+ to have a better mic
I haven't tried it, but I would think it would work just fine.
Can you record what the the spark creates as your background drum and bass tracks to my own song that I've written,?
Yes, you just couldn’t record what the spark is generating AND your guitar at the same time.

"gooseneck" It's pretty flimsy, but cheap and does the trick.
I tried it recorded and saved it, but it did not show up in my gallery.? Wonder where it went to now
are you on android? On Apple devices it shows up in the photos app so I'm guessing it should be whatever your default photo/vid settings are set to?

So it’s recording audio from the mic on device that is coming out of the amp?
When I last tried it yes. The iPad mic was capturing the audio.
But not for Andoid. IOS only.

They are trying to add too much fluff into the Spark. I am afraid it will get bloated with too many broken features and not be taken seriously enough to use. Wait for the karaoke patch coming up. lol.
