I grew up with this type of music, so I can probably share a few words about it. It's rooted in northern Shaanxi, an area characterized by sandy mountains. That's why the music evokes the feeling of wild deserts and rugged mountains-that is where the music is born. Decades ago, groups of performers would travel across villages and towns on special occasions to perform this kind of music. The singing typically told stories from old times or new stories created by the performers themselves. For most people back then, this was one of the few forms of entertainment and one of the few ways to learn about the world beyond their small village. The harsh reality is that many of these performers were actually people with disabilities, such as blindness. This resonates with the NPC of the headless monk. These individuals likely took up performing because they couldn’t engage in more typical occupations like farming to make a living. Life was hard back then, but it was also full of happiness. I miss it so much. I’ve been thinking about picking this up as a hobby myself, so my kids know their roots.

Because the rap style and accent in the game are from Yulin City in northern Shaanxi Province, China, commonly known as Shaanxi storytelling. And the map outline of Shaanxi Province, including its terrain and the distribution of major cities, is very similar to that of the UK. Yulin City's position in Shaanxi is also similar to Scotland's position in the UK. So the English version of this character's accent uses a Scottish English accent.
That's impressive attention to detail and world building. Though the accent caught me off guard when I heard it and it fits this character surprisingly.

@@露透社 lol statues were broken up and looted by poverty-stricken uneducated locals who didn’t care about them because they didn’t understand the historical and cultural value, they just knew the stuff was worth money to the pale foreigners, so then they sold the pieces to British archaeologists who wanted to preserve them. The British Museum is giving a lot of this stuff back to origin countries that now have stable governments and proper archaeological societies that can preserve them.

It’s Scottish. Never call them English unless you want to get glassed in the face. Also the localization is what it is but by no means is it “good” - it’s dumb that their idea of a rural accent is this. Would be more accurate as a KKonaW Texas farm boy. The accent in Chinese is very country (their version of it).

I really appreciated the localization effort they made here... The original lyrics were sang in a dialect from north-western China, so translating it into English with Scottish accent was a smart move. Not only that, the English lyrics actually rhymed, and rhymed on the same syllables as the original Chinese lyrics! If you pay close attention you would notice that.
Their English localization team is beyond epic imo. 8.5/10 as a game, but 11/10 as a piece of art!

I've listened to this when i broke up with my first serious girlfriend. I've listened to it when i became homeless and lived in some abandoned catacomb tunnels. I've listened to it when i fell into the grip of heroin addiction. I've listened to it when i got sober, and i'm listening to it now, at almost 32 years of age, as i live a normal life with a regular job.

For people that keep saying that his head is gone because it got taken to the British museum are kind of wrong. The in story reason why he dosent have a head is because the yellow wind stage sneak attacked him and is using his head as magic item to try to properly use the relic he has.
