  • Wild Cup Soccer is a football game with a difference, featuring extreme violence and anthropomorphic animal creature type things. I was reminded of it by playing Blood Bowl with Dready. It's unfortunately a bit choppy, but I still enjoyed it more than most sports games I played, what with the ability to kill things and such.
    "Ain't Played In Ages" is a live narrated walkthrough / let's play series of various games that I haven't played for many years. Usually I'm playing them in the video for the first time since I was a kid. That's a long time ago.
    Intro music is from the classic "cracktro" by Unit A. The full version can be heard and seen here:

    One of the best games of all time and better than the original Brutal Sports Football. The amount of intensity in this game is just off the charts. Nothing comes close in terms of playing multiplayer with a friend on this. I still play this every week.

    My son recently finished his soccer year and i recently had a memory come up from the depths of my mind. I loved this game growing up. Between me and my brother the name of the game was to decapitate rather than win. We had great fun.

      Decapitation is even better than winning

    Oh wow, I remember this!! I think this was a kind of sequel to Brutal Sports Football. I remember both, though I don't think I played them that much. Although I have to say that Speedball 2 was awesome!!

    Yeah it's by the same guys that did 'Brutal Sports', the engine had the same jerkiness in that too. Didn't stop it from being a fun little diversion though.
    Also, as aldershot said, what's the deal with the ref getting his arse out?! Those were the days eh?... Jumpers for goalposts...murderous clothed chimps...

    Another game that I missed.
    I absolutely loved Sensible Soccer and the Kick Off games. Would be in tears of laughter playing those games with friends. Speedball was great too. Loved the artwork and futuristic setting.
    I probably missed out on this game as I was just taking my first stumbling steps into the adult world of work and responsibility when it was released.

    This reminds me of "M.U.D.S." or "Mean Ugly Dirty Sports". It was a football/rugby style game with a bit of a manager element to it. You'd recruit players, train them up, and then play violent games against other teams. It was all set in a fantasy world with strange beasts and such. Totally recommended as it was lots of fun back in the days.

    Woah! Only a Mattel Aquarius lover would think the framerate on this is acceptable for a computer with a 'workstation class blitter'

    Haha, I remember this game, I used to just win by 'default' by killing all the opposition :)
    Blast from the past, makes me want to play Speedball 2

    That was pretty charming! Also, I agree with younger you: we need more over-the-top, silly, violent sports games. And, I don't just mean _NBA Jam_ or _NFL Hitz._

      Check out super blood hockey if you haven’t (seriously awesome). Also check out golazo for a fast paced soccer game. It’s not ott or violent but fouls are allowed and it has a pretty nice style graphically imo.

    Yeah, well the rules are the same week in, week out in every competitive sport. That's just the way it works. O.o I mean cod, battlefield, final fantasy (the modern ones) are just a small selection of the many non-sport games that recycle the same game year after year. Also a lot of modern football games (well since the mid 00s) have modes where you control only one player. Anyway just putting that out there.

      Can you really compare something like Madden or NHL to call of Duty though? Call of Duty at least has new single player campaigns and new maps. Every Football or Hockey or Basketball game has the same "map" since the court size is the same, CoD introduces new guns and perks, sports have the same basic concepts, etcetera.
      Not saying that the yearly releases can't become incredibly repetitive for any of the games you listed. But I think there's quite a bit more that's different.

    • @JimPlaysGames
      @JimPlaysGames  9 років тому

      I still don't think it's comparable. It would be if in every Final Fantasy game you had all the same items, spells, locations and game rules. I'm not saying they're not all very similar. But even with something like Far Cry 4 where many say it's just the same as Far Cry 3 in so many ways, there's still way more to separate those two than any two standard soccer games.

    This looks great! Reminds me of Brutal Sports Football that I have on the Jaguar. Except this is isometric. I really like the look of this game, and it looks fun, too bad about the choppiness. Brutal Sports Football has the same problem. Darn it choppiness! Darn you to smooth! Huh? I dunno. Games!

    • @JimPlaysGames

    My problem with this and brutal sports football is the abysmal framerate. Not sure which version you're playing here but for a CD32 release it was unacceptable. I agree with yoy about sports games.

      you are absolutely right ! it's a shame, I managed to take the whdload installer with floppy image add and now I play from workbench (CD32 with tf328 extension/ CF card) and it's ok.

    Funny that EA games made mutant league hockey and football. But never revisited the franchise. Maybe a new mutant league football with the new madden engine would be a good idea.

    • @JimPlaysGames
      @JimPlaysGames  9 років тому

      Yeah they should. I'd play more sports games if they jazzed it up a bit.
