- We had a hard freeze (below 28F) this past week and some of my avocado trees are damaged, but some aren't! I go over each variety's cold and heat (sun) tolerance, so that you can better determine which variety would be right for your climate.
1. Fuerte Avocado
2. Mexicola Avocado
3. Aravaipa Avocado
4. Seedling Avocado (from Hass avocado)
5. Zutano Avocado
6. Hass Avocado

With those extreme temperatures, a good couple inches of bark mulch at least width of trees will help soil temperatures, moisture and healthy growth in my experience🤠
Hello! Love seeing your avocados doing so well. We are also in the Phoenix area and hit 24 one of those cold mornings last week. Our older fuerte took no damage at all uncovered and the newer lamb hass also seemed to do fine and it's only been in the ground for a few months. They definitely seem to be more cold hardy than the mangoes.
Hello, and welcome! Definitely my mango would have died if it wasn't protected with a heat source... so I agree avocados are definitely less fussy in the winter. How old is your fuerte, and has it produced much fruit? Great to meet another avocado grower in the valley!
Good morning Matt, I like your video description, for last 2 years, I am trying to grow avocado in Bangladesh ( I was born there).
Bangladesh has similar weather like Arizona. I have only Hass variety but no fruits in 26 months old tree although flowers came both years.
Please advise why flowers don’t make fruit.

Not yet, but it's on my long list! I've seen from others that they really struggle in our winters here in Phoenix AZ, but can survive and then thrive in the summer.
