It's unreal how this movie plays with you heart. Modern Korean cinema is a completely different spectrum. Really pissed that the Golden globe classified this one under foreign films, when it's an American movie written and directed by an American filmmaker set in America with an American lead actor and produced by an American production company. Also, subbed!
"Modern Korean cinema is a entirely different spectrum" is an understatement. Just ask the legions of woman (ok not.just woman, tbf) NOT korean, lost down the rabbit hole that is Kdrama.
absolutely. this is not just a korean story.. this is the quintesstial AMERICAN story that happens to be korean. every family (unless u are native) in the states go thru something like this.
This was an amazing movie about the human condition and I feel like it was several movies in one, a story about marriage, about the struggle for the american dream, about faith, about a coming-of-age of a little kid, about parents and children, and about being an outsider in a strange land. It was so many things and it felt true and honest.
As a first generation born American that was raised in a house of immigrant parents, Minari really hit close to home for and I just can’t help myself but to be happy that a movie like Minari exists and for the first time, my life experiences feels “acknowledged” and my life doesn’t feel as invisible as before. I hope to see more representation and diverse stories in the future!
I can’t wait to see this! Growing up in the 70’s-80’s South as one of the few Korean Americans is exactly what I wrote my college application essay on. 😂👍
Finally saw last night and WOW. I was way more invested than I thought I would be. When it ended (brilliant ending), I didn't even think it was half way done. Definitely in my top 5 of "2020"
Its OK to say that you werent jazzed about the Farewell. You sound apologetic. Dont be. I saw Farewell in the theater and i thought it was sad and terrible...and i'm also Chinese.American.
As a 44 y/o Korean American man - this didn’t hit close to home. This shit landed on my house.
Lmaoooo

It's truly one of the best films of 2020. I hope it reaches a wide audience at some point during the awards race.

Wait I think I watched your multicolor ultraboost review video a while back haha
I just finished this. How did Nomadland win anything over this film
Honestly thought Farewell was dull af, but that might be because I listened to a podcast that told the whole story before I saw it.
good review
