Great videos. Have you done a RoonServer install on DSM7? Or could you consider. A search of UA-cam was underwhelming.
Someone below noted that Video Station will not play videos with DTS audio. It will also not play videos with EAC3 audio, which includes the majority of my videos. So Video Station is useless to me for its lack of support for common audio formats. I would like to find a good NAS hosted video player that keeps track of my watched/unwatched status across all of my client playback devices on my network and supports common audio formats.

Was going through the steps, and in my package center for some reason Advanced Media Extensions does not come up as an option to install. I have a 1621XS+ and it looks like that one is compatible. Any reason why it might not be available to me? I have video station and media server installed already. Also... When you go into settings you have a tab at the top called "video info plugin" ... I have the other 6 tabs, but not that one. It seems the app is up to date. No option to update it. Not sure why I don't have all those features. Thanks!
Getting an API for TMDB is not as straight forward. You must apply for one to which they question your use for it. I simply said for my Synology NAS. If approved, they will email you the code. I successfully applied and their scrapping is very fast and accurate. The only catch is you MUST name your media files in a correct format. Ex: My videoName (year) If you don't name your file correctly TMDB cannot find it. This also applies to TV shows such as season and episode no. Ex: Sopranos S03E04
Really nice information but I have a question here.
1. I recorded a videos on my iPhone and backed up using the Synology Photos app to my DS220J NAS. Now to stream and share do I have to copy these videos every time from my default NAS folder to the Video Station mounted folder. Because this doesn't make any sense to create copies on my NAS.
2. Is there any way I can use my all default backed-up photos/videos/audio files using the Synology Photos app to stream on my phone or browser and also share without copying in.
Please also make a video for Kodi integration. For now, I don't want to pay for Plex. BTW, I'm having problems with Video Station not automatically scraping info. I had to manually go to each video file and edit/correct the info. When I tried to refresh, it did refresh the list of files/folders but didn't scrape the info, meaning I lost a lot of the effort I did with manual scraping. Does the Video Station need a certain folder structure for the files?
Also, am I able to exclude certain sub-folders? For example, Featurettes, Extras, etc?
In the creation of libraries on the Video Station I have noticed that the "home" folder is just not there. Is it possible to have it look in subfolders within the home folder?
Can DS video be accessed remotely without opening ports? My ISP provided me with CG NAT IP so ports don't work.
Hi, i habe Problems, when i don’t wart Tobise the predefined Folders and libraries. Even i connect msg Folders, no Video is found. It Sems the top Level Folders in the nas is different from Folders Bülow,
Is it possible for me to include my own Video info without scrapping the internet with third party providers? For example if i have videos from conferences that I will like to associate with certain pictures.
How can I change the Library. For me this option is grayed out
About Synology Video Station: You need to know that if your movie has DTS sound, it will be played without any sound on your samsung device. This doesn't happen with plex, emby... Samsung TVs seem to be affected by this. I don't know about the other brands.

Not just Samsung TVs, no DS Video plays DTS sound. This is because Synology doesn't want to buy DTS playback license.

You are so correct. To employ Video Station, you , must convert to another audio codec. I use ffmpeg and usually transcode to a high bitrate 5.1 format. Then I post it on my NAS to support playing.

menu is just classic shell, a software that let you customize your start menu
Exactly! It's a solid unofficial GUI add on that I have been using on all PCs I have used (real or VM) since windows 8 utterly shafted the windows start menu...

Sounds like something has changed in Video Station's history, and people aren't happy with it.
Setting up anime info was too much of a pain I just don't care anymore and let it be.
