Tone play is hard - especially if you don’t understand music theory. And the feature is BROKEN in Rekordbox. It’s confusing, hard to use and can easily ruin a set. I decided to fix it so that ANY DJ can add tone play to their sets.

Another BANGER of a video... not really the biggest fan of pitch play but maybe this will make it a bit easier! Now, to figure out what pad modes I can sacrifice to bring it back...

As a keyboard player, I find playing on the pads rather annoyong because:
a) You only get transposes up or down per page, so in normal play you'll be changing pages a lot. I imagine this could be solved with some custom mapping.
b) The fact that bottom right pad is always the root note and all other pads are relative to it makes the calculations which pad is which tone rather annoying and time consuming. I'd much prefer if the scale remained static and the root note was indicated with a lit up pad or something.

The root note does actually have a different colour (white) but I agree, there is way too much page switching and it gets confusing fast

I would really use that feature for Traktor S4MK3, i just need to figure out how to map the Pads because in default u have to press the shift + twist

Thanks for the lesson. Could you delivery a session on the "Capture" feature in Rekordbox? I can capture a loop, however when its played back, it's out of sync with the active track. Any tips? I'm using a DDJ 400 Thanks Mike.

One issue is that rekordbox can be pretty bad at recognizing keys properly. This can impact which mode you use with this hack. Check your keys folks!

Couldn't you remap pad mode on some other buttons you don't use like you did in the stems video?

Yes no reason why not! But the layout of the OG key shift mode never made sense to me

This technique is more useful for manipulating the pitch of samples/loops rather than key syncing (which you can do automatically anyway in most cases)
