This is not public perception. He is giving and pointing out legit flaws that the game has. Them not straying basically means they are oblivious to feedback and are gonna continue to ship out garbage which means the genre will die out sooner or later
Based on the prologue demo alone this is at the very least a 7,5 in my book. Great soundtrack, fun combat, nice visuals and the customization options for your character and the mech!! Co-op sounds fun as hell too and pvp will come later as well. This game deserve some love. Starting off by calling the switch underpowered also makes me feel like this reviewer has bias against the switch. Most UE4 games are 30fps on the "powerful" consoles as well.
Personally I think this game is awesome. But think reviewers also sort of play these type of games in the wrong way. You usually don't play it 24/7 until you are finished and then put out a review. You play it along side some other game when you feel for some pure awesome action and then you go back to something else like Fire Emblem or Astral Chain. Personally I love when a game tries to be one thing and one thing alone and then do that thing well.
@@NautilusXO Then between Zelda and Luigi's Mansion 3... it's the same point. Or you could say Nintendo sent Zelda remake to die by releasing between Astral Chain and Dragon Quest XI-S. Either way, the point is that the OP's idea was misguided.
Mech games exist for a sole purpose: To build your mech, customize it to your heart's content and then go on missions to blow out stuff. You don't need a story driven mode. Even AC has the same pattern. Mercenary who got a job as a giant robot pilot. The fact that AC has a somewhat better storyline never made me keep up with the series. The mechs did. And so does this game as well. As long as the mechs are great along with the customization options, I'll play it. And I'll play AC also. Just give me mech games. No story. Just Boom.

Lemme tell ya, those stages are straight up beautiful. And fighting the Zeruchroar within it gives things a whole other vibe.

It's got some rather fun options. This game, Astral Chain, Smash Bros is hella under estimated by people who just never tried it before. They got some handy lil flgiht games, tank games, and a really powerful hand held with a big screen option. It's also bringing over quite a lot of smaller PC titles you otherwise wouldn't have thought of. Which is really nice given that on the PC front, everything is inconveniently going to the epic store, which is hot trash.

This game is dropping in September where so many releases and arguably better exclusives drop. So obviously it won't sell well the month of release and will be lost because 1. Marvelous had the bright idea of striking anything (including reviews) that promote their game and 2. The miniscule marketing push will be forgotten and so will the game. Now let's say black Friday comes around and the price drops to $45 (knowing Nintendo and their dumb discount prices) along with other Switch exclusives. Do you really think it will do well when you have Smash Bros, BotW, Pokemon, Mario Kart, and Mario Odyssey on the same system? Now if this was multiplat that would be a different story, but here it's clearly a flop.
@@Bangcat I guarantee this will sell well enough in Japan, but everywhere else? Probably not, even the Japanese sales aren't a total guarantee because of Dragon Quest 11 S dropping so close to it. It is definitely ONLY Marvelous JP and not Nintendo, this has happened before. Wait, what?!?! Theres online too!!! I was already gonna buy it, but if I can play with others and have mech fashion shows then I'm definitely on board.
So, personal experience- The game focuses heavily on dog fighting with fast, excessively small enemy mechs, which can be disorienting, even with auto targeting). If the game stuck with the ground, it would be fine, but the enemies are usually going to zoom around the battlefield (likely against an AI partner) which ruins low level missiles and melee. The game relies HEAVILY on looting these enemy mechs.... but the early selection is very limited. Also, named NPC enemies will likely flee, giving you NOTHING in return for being stun locked repeatedly by grenadge launchers (a weapon you can't which you can't get, because the no name enemy mechs aren't dropping it yet; that or I have bad RNG, and you have to also worry about that 'fun'). Also, melee seems like a quick path to suicide, because many of the buildings are destructible... and basically you are fighting in a city made up of red barrels. Nice with ranged attacks, terrible when it comes from your "always lunge forward" melee. I am sure that this game is fantastic once you get to high levels and open up the weapon selection and fine tune your stats, and when you master the controls. But as the review stated- it LOOKS great, but the substance is just not there, at least before that point.
Been checking around to see the general consensus on this game as I'm tempted to buy it at full price. I played the Prologue demo a bit and although I can get a sense that the campaign and deep customization system is merely there to support co-op play, there's something special about this game. The gameplay is from a bygone era and I think media outlets are reviewing it poorly because they are pressured to find positives only in current trends and modern day innovation.
Well gamer reviewers and "journalists" are known to have shitty tastes in games and are bad at them. Its not surprise. The game's spiritual predecessor, Armored Core, also got bad reviews but was still fun to play. To make it simple, reviewers and journalist hates games that are too "gamey"

i have ZoE2 on PS4, played the whole game in PSVR, amazing stuff piloting Jehuty in Cockpit view instead of 3rd Person.
A damn shame Zone if the enders 3 hasn't been made yet.
I hope a Zone of the Ender 3 happen someday!
Blame that company for why we haven't gotten ZoE3 because Kojima who worked on the first two entries for the PS2, and the HD collection for the 360, and PS3, and the RTS spinoff for the GBA stated in an interview that the next project he wanted to work on after MGS5, and Silent Hills was ZoE3 but as we all know Kojima left due tensions between him and that company which means chances of seeing a true ZoE3 are pretty much slim to basically zero,
@@derrickhaggard there was talk last year about ZotE3 being discussed between Cygames and Konami. That's why they released ZotE2 remaster for ps4; to test the waters.

i still have it. been looking for a switch game like this. I finished ZoE2 on PS4 in PSVR, and don't feel the Gundam Games on the platform.
Katsudon96 Gaming Great minds think alike right?
Finally someone who feels like I do. Armored Core and ZoE are how mech games are supposed to play.
@BMO I will later, I already have it, if you check my channel I have finished the PSVR missions, though Haven't done much multiplayer, and only 1 mission of the campaign.
I bought it. Looked up this review. Was disappointed. Then started playing it, it's really fun. Pretty easy, but fun to pick up and play.
It´s free on epic games this week.
“5.0/10 - Requires human thought, problem solving, and mission planning.”

Pretty sure the review said the opposite, that planning was meaningless because of the lack of challenge.
It got a 6.5 for being pretty but having bland gameplay. You're welcome everybody.
Bland gameplay because they use none of the mechanics xD. Totally the games fault right? Lol

Honestly, reviewers saying an AC game is "meh" is music to my ears, because that's what they've said about every single one of them, and yet it's my favorite series of games. It's a confirmation that the devs haven't strayed, even under the pressure of public perception.

I own a switch and if you think it isn’t underpowered, you’re just deluded

EPIC sent me here
Personally I think this game is awesome.
No wonder Nintendo sent this game to die, between astral chain and Zelda
Alex Prime it’s not a First Party game so it’s dev Marvelous is to blame for the release date I’d imagine
With that logic, Square-Enix sent Dragon Quest XI-S to die between Astral Chain & Zelda too...
@@corey2232 Dragon Quest 11S comes out after both those games
No story. Just Boom.
Expected this score, needed a lot more time to cook and Nintendo have sent it out to die among Gears, Borderlands and Zelda, this will be unheard off by next month, lol
The damn joy con will outsell it.
Nintendo was not the developer it was a publisher; this was developed by marvelous

Why do people assume that a developer/publisher puts a game out to die? People seem to forget that you don’t have to buy video games day one you can always pick them up later all you really have to do is make sure that the video game is brand new and you still support the publisher/developer; with all the added benefits of patches to go along with it
Say that to titanfall 2.....

@@jeromealday614 That's all I needed to know. Downloading the game now. Thanks!
@@FFXIgaiaknightDave Nice! Just bought it now.
I have this on Steam. Honestly, the AC customization is not that restrictive, the action is great. Had loads of fun just testing stuff out. Then going online to finalize your build. Really worth it for me. And i want a sequel. F it, i want a trilogy
I can see the sequel to this game being in space....or on another planet.
Nevertheless, the is the closet thing we're getting to an Armored Core 6.
