What a huge mess, glad I got my CX-5 last week as it seemed to be just the right size. I was thinking of holding out to see if the cx70 would be a true mid-size like a Nissan murano, Honda passport, Subaru outback, Toyota venza, which Mazda was lacking in it's lineup. The fact that all of the above competitors aren't the same size as their three-row crossover equivalent is very telling, as there's a need for a proper mid-size as well as a proper three-row crossover that's larger. I'm not sure why Mazda didn't do the same, so that the second row in a mid-size could be just as roomy as the first and comparable to the competition in its class. The idea is not to have a boat to drive around with your two row mid-size crossover when it comes to parking, even if it does handle better than the competition. Totally happy I got my cx-5, and it was partially on listening to Yuri's justification for it when he got it for his family.
this is very true, now nearly every competing brand has a relatively well-selling proper two row midsize crossover (passport, venza, murano, edge, outback, santa fe, sorento, blazer, atlas cross sport, grand cherokee) meanwhile mazda has one big crossover with 3 rows and another big crossover with 2 rows.
@@smar1208 and I don't understand why they didn't just make the cx90 have an optional third row delete or have the third row fold into the floor on hinges just like the Honda pilot can do. And then they can just import the cx60, which is a mid-sized 2 row crossover similar to the cx90 but smaller. Maybe they still will.
Let's just call it a CX-90 5 passengers, which i prefer. The 3 rows is small compared to competition. If pricing is around 2k less, I'd get the base model for car glamping.
Every car has it's issues but being an auto technician in a shop i rarely see any models of Mazda in the shop. Now im not saying I haven't worked on them, they're just rare to see on the daily compared to most other vehicles

My expectation was that CX-70 would position itself between CX-5 and CX-90 in terms of size with the price range also falling in between. But if it's almost identical to the CX-90 with a similar price then I'd rather buy CX-90 and have the third low folded down. At least I have the third low option when I need it every now and then. Mazda should just market it as a CX-90 variant like CX-90-C or something. C for cargo.
It seems like many are disappointed with this introduction. I love everything about the CX-70. No need for the 3rd row and I wanted a bigger vehicle than my CX-5. Great review, can you specify the towing capacity of the MHEV and PHEV? That wasn't clear in the video. Thanks.

I used to have a Mazda CX-7 some years ago. I liked it a lot. This is pretty much the spiritual successor to that vehicle. Back then though it was only CX-7 and CX-9. CX-9 was the 3 row variant.
Mazda CX-7 ? I never knew Mazda has that on their SUV line up before. All I know are CX-3, CX-4 (China region only), CX-5, CX-8 (Japan and some Asia region only) and CX-9 for sure. the fact that only the top-trim Turbo S models have lane tracing is such a huge oversight on Mazda's part. even if they are a "driver's" brand, 1. this is a boat of an SUV and doesn't handle all that better than anything else in the segment, and 2. lane tracing/centering is still a feature that all of its competitors have standard, and many vehicles that cost tends of thousands of dollars less also have standard
I have the CX-60 here in Japan. I love it, but it does have a couple small issues that I hope Mazda can get fixed. My biggest complaint is that the facial recognition is wonky. It will recognize me, and tell me welcome, but won't actually change to my profile. I was told that this is a known issue and they will be fixing it. It has been a few months now though.

After waiting for several months and delays, they just removed the third row, but oddly, they still remained cup holders in the trunk… I prefer to call it the 2-row CX90 rather than wasting new model name.
It's a fantastic edition to Mazda's line up! I hope they don't give up that CX5 size, people in big cities need an easily parkable Mazda! Just bring the hybrid version to version CX5!
I see LOTS OF CX70 vs. CX90 comparison videos coming in few months. I’m curious how different will it drive from cx90. This could also be a chance where Mazda can give CX90 a soft suspension and more comfort and give athleticism to the CX70 to set them apart from each other in some ways. One is a fun family hauler and other is a fun sporty version with more personality and fun colours.
Massive cargo space. Probably a great fit for the majority of people currently buying MDX's who should really getting RDX's because they don't use the third row. An RDX sized competitor with the CX-90 powertrains would have just made more sense tho

These look really good! I like that it's a little more boxy and aggressive compared to Mazda suvs from a few years ago. Their interiors are always nice and the drive is usually more to my liking too. I'm not a new buyer, but will definitely consider used as my future winter vehicle.
I’m so confused as to why Mazda made sole rather significant changes between the US and Canadian models? Like why are the rear liftgate LEDs non-functioning on the US PHEV top trim but functioning on the Canadian model? What the body colored wheel flares on the Canadian model but not the US model?
Unpopular opinion: I think its brilliant. Im 6'3" but dont need a third row. I dont think this will sell all that well, so there could be deep discounts with a year or two because they will still need to move units. Win!😁
I don't get it. We have the CX-60 in EU. Why didn't they just release that in the US too if they were gonna release a smaller model without a third row??
My 2010 Mazda 3 hatch has flip to open grocery hooks. Ambient lighting, fog lights and more interior storage. Why is the 2024 Mazda CX's driving like my 2007 cx7 gt? with the same no selling black cherry paint?
I wish they just brought the CX 60. I prefer a smaller vehicle in the city. I also like that they used the Canadian version during their reveal in the US which I see as an acknowledgement that the cheap plastic cladding that comes on all trims down there looks awful. If they really do have premium aspirations, covering you car in Fisher Price plastic is not a good start.
Thank god they got rid of the gloss black entirely. Just wish it was wide enough for sheet material. Would also be cool if they develop this into a truck similar to the Santa Cruz.
I just noticed that the black color is not your ordinary black from any other car. Its a bit softer and has shades of silver or grey I think. Mazda creates some of the best colors for their cars 😍
I don’t get how this slots into Mazda’s current lineup and makes sense? CX50 is $44K - $50+k and the CX90 starts at $55k so the CX70 will fit where? Also missed an opportunity to debut the 3.3 L e-Skyactiv D turbo I6 (mild hybrid) to NA market, using the CX70.

Mazda is very Remiss with this !! They should have brought the CX-60 (more like the CX-7 of years gone by) - perfect size for those without Large Families looking to avoid a MiniVan. IMHO, getting 3 Row SUVs are MiniVan Avoiders. I'd like to see the Stats about owners of 3 row SUVs (like me a 22 Acura MDX ) that show the frequency of using the 3 Rows. I would tend to think, it is very rarely used. If this new CX-70 was equal to the CX-60 seen elsewhere (Europe / Australia) - it would have been a very serious alternative to replace my Acura this August at lease expiration. Looks like a melting x7. Cx-60 would make me consider moving up from a cx5
Just import a CX60 then
Huge miss. They needed their X5 sized CUV. instead this is their X7 with a 3rd row delete.
yea, and I hope they dont give up that CX5 size, people in big cities need an easily parkable Mazda!
The CX-5 is 0.5” shorter than the mazda3. So if you can park a 3, you can park the 5.
CX70/90 is midsize like X5, X7 is fullsize, which the Mazdas is not
This is actually X5 size, X7 is noticably larger.
yeah dont let the name “90/70” fooled you
So Mazda just uses a big foam tray to replace the 3rd row seats?
Such underrated design. That midnight package looks 🔥 please bring it to the cx-90
Nice editing with the G-string! Love it!
Let's just call it a CX-90 5 passengers, which i prefer. The 3 rows is small compared to competition. If pricing is around 2k less, I'd get the base model for car glamping.
Mazda is the most underrated reliable vehicle
The CX-90 has like 5 different recalls right now...
@@Unchainedmaple888 And more issues flying in the forum lol
Every car has it's issues but being an auto technician in a shop i rarely see any models of Mazda in the shop. Now im not saying I haven't worked on them, they're just rare to see on the daily compared to most other vehicles
Their cars are making ultra rattles from interiors.
CX-90 (powertrain+chassis+infotainment+potential issues seen on 90) + CX-50 (Bumper) + New wheels - Third row (But leave the 3rd row cup holder) = ALL NEW CX-70.
The cupholders are still there?💀
@@DrD21486Yeah, simply reused whatever they can from CX-90
Great overview! Can't wait for when they call the CX-90 with a second row bench the CX-85.
Waiting on the inline 6 mazda 6 . For 2025 model hopefully. Thenk u straight pipe guys . Yall r the best, keep us updated on the DRIVE TEST ! ZOOM ZOOM
Welll take a closer look at it cx70 looks much smaller and better than 90
We needed the cx60!!!
It seems like many are disappointed with this introduction. I love everything about the CX-70. No need for the 3rd row and I wanted a bigger vehicle than my CX-5. Great review, can you specify the towing capacity of the MHEV and PHEV? That wasn't clear in the video. Thanks.
I could see myself behind the wheel of a 2025 Mazda CX-70 GS (base model with 280 hp inline 6). Naturally, I'll wait and see the pricing and incentives. Keep the good work. 🙂
Really wish this was actually shorter than the cx90. was very excited for this as a personal car but this is just disappointing as its just a 2 row version of their 3 row with extremely minimal changes.
I’m actually happy with this car. I almost bought the cx50 but it was too rugged looking and a 3rd row seat on the 90 was unnecessary for me. Can’t wait for this to release.
You can just fold down the 3rd row seats?
@@Fadic4exactly but you get only captain chair if you go higher trim😢😢😢
@@studio4life1 That just seems like a problem that Mazda created so they can sell a solution lol.
5:29 Jacob showing the thong is something that can't be unseen. LOL
👀
What Americans expected: The CX-60 with American flavour
What they got: The 5-seats CX-90
So many people miss the point!!! This is a great suv! It has the size and presence of a the current X5 and GLE without the huge price!! That comes with a fully loaded base engine x5 and GLE, I’m looking forward to the cx70 love the updated front and rear bumpers! And inline 6! It’s the size of the v90 in length!! It’s the size of a large wagon but with suv proportions! Way to go Mazda! Just wish yall made the infotainment native touch screen
This SUV looks great 👍🏻 giving the other Japanese luxury brands a run for their money. More power & better steering than other Japanese luxury rivals at a lower base prices
Lmao I was about to say “wow looks just like the CX-90”
Hahaha, that sneaky g string photoshop on Jakub 😂😂
Yes…photoshop 👀
The G string edit on Jakob 🔥😂😭
I was expecting something different especially after the big debut delay, unless there is a big price difference I don't get it.
I've never really been a big fan of Mazda designs, but from a styling perspective, this is absolutely gorgeous both inside and out. Bravo Mazda!
It’s amazing how you two can pull off a good review on a vehicle that’s just a demo and just sitting there haha congrats 👏
Should’ve just gave the cx90 an option for no third row duh mazda
I took a CX 90 for a ride the other day. The interior alone is a reason to buy it.. talk about, knocking it out of the park
After they launched the top of the line new CX-90, probably they gonna make an ultra luxury which is CX-100 next. Who knows.....
@@henrichandrew yep the CX-7 was in production from 2006-2012. I had a 2009 Grand Touring Model with torque-split AWD. It had the same turbo 2.3 LTR engine from the Mazda speed 3. The early CX-7 with the turbo had a few issues. The had recalls on the AC compressor seizing up. Also there were known issues with the turbos in these SUVs. I blew 2 turbos in 1.5 years they replaced them without issue under warranty. Then a year later after the second turbo. My engine trew a rod through the crankcase in front of my job. There was a whole in the engine block. Mazda replaced it with a brand new engine out of warranty. I only paid $400 in labor cost and they paid the rest of the $6800 bill. I called corporate to make that happen.
@@MisterrJmark that was a unforgettable experience. Anyway I come to remember the Mazda CX-7. I was wrong, the CX-7 was also launched in my country. The first family member of Mazda CX line up. Back then, the CX-7 was a very good design and attractive looking, I suppose it also still seen as that now days. The first Mazda SUV with Turbocharger engine, but the issue was the fuel consumption. In my country, the CX-7 also know as Mazda RX-8 SUV version, since both their design very similar. This Mazda CX-7 quite successful, so Mazda made his big brother CX-9 and powered with 3.7 L V6 engine. The most successful historical milestone of CX series after they lauched CX-5 with Skyactiv first generation engine. This's how the Mazda CX series story began. And now Mazda's evolving and becoming luxurious car maker Brand with their new generation of CX series.
the fact that only the top-trim Turbo S models have lane tracing is such a huge oversight on Mazda's part. even if they are a "driver's" brand, 1. this is a boat of an SUV and doesn't handle all that better than anything else in the segment, and 2. lane tracing/centering is still a feature that all of its competitors have standard, and many vehicles that cost tends of thousands of dollars less also have standard
This is a great video. Very thorough comparison. Please do a similar one for the Grand Highlander vs TX. My wife is trying to decide between the four.
TX is way better than the grand highlander and worth the price difference
What about the turn signal? When I test drove a CX 90 the turn signal made a funny sound! Did they change the turn signal sound?!
AIs are dumb...or they pretend to be dumb until one they they start controlling us and there will be Skynet in Terminator they will eliminate us humans.
With this black out edition this cx70 looks very amazing!
i think it's smart. there are people who don't need a third row but want the space. we considered at one point getting a Volvo XC90 but just never using the third row. but we love having the space.
I hope they have plans to bring cx60 to North America. Why would you buy same size 5 sitter if you can get 7 sitter for the same price?!
Since they’re in the ballpark ..Bring back the Mazda Millenia 😂😂❤❤❤
Mazda has missed the mark with the CX-70. I love my Mazda’s. Owned many and own one now. My kid’s are grown up and I don’t need a vehicle the size of the CX-90. Please Mazda bring over the from Europe the CX-60. For myself and my needs it’s exactly what I want and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
These look really good! I like that it's a little more boxy and aggressive compared to Mazda suvs from a few years ago. Their interiors are always nice and the drive is usually more to my liking too. I'm not a new buyer, but will definitely consider used as my future winter vehicle.
The cx50 has 4 bag holders. They are also used in some cargo net configs!
Glad I stayed till the end, good stuff.
I’m so confused as to why Mazda made sole rather significant changes between the US and Canadian models? Like why are the rear liftgate LEDs non-functioning on the US PHEV top trim but functioning on the Canadian model? What the body colored wheel flares on the Canadian model but not the US model?
If it’s the same size as cx 90 , what’s wrong with cx90 then?! Drop the 3rd row and you get the cx70. Or the cx90 doesn’t drop the 3rd row?
Unpopular opinion: I think its brilliant. Im 6'3" but dont need a third row. I dont think this will sell all that well, so there could be deep discounts with a year or two because they will still need to move units. Win!😁
Wait...so, the body is literally the same as the CX-90?
Volvo XC90 and BMW X5 had a child. Mazda CX70
The fact that they kept this car such a big secret for all this time......lol.... Mazda wtf.....
That’s not a garage-that’s a living room.
Mazda, bring the CX-60 to North America. People are looking for something like that! It looks so fire.
Damn, that vehicle is beautiful 🔥🔥
What is the point of a whole new model for such a small change? What other company organizes their models like that?
Loved the starting filming location!
It’s just a good looking vehicle. Mazda rocks. Interior materials look excellent. Inline 6 is fantastic. Love your review guys
I’m happy it’s the same size as the cx 90
I don't get it. We have the CX-60 in EU. Why didn't they just release that in the US too if they were gonna release a smaller model without a third row??
Because CX 70 is bigger
They kept the 3rd row cup holders 😂
Now that they got this inline 6, they should plop it in some smaller models. Can you imagine a Mazda 3 “zoom” hatchback with an inline 6. 😍
You said those were top of the line models they were showing but the CX-70 doesn't have a full digital cluster?
My 2010 Mazda 3 hatch has flip to open grocery hooks. Ambient lighting, fog lights and more interior storage. Why is the 2024 Mazda CX's driving like my 2007 cx7 gt? with the same no selling black cherry paint?
"Is it taking up any space in the cargo thing?" Thank you Yuri, good call.
They should've designed a whole new midsize 5seater instead of just removing the 3rd row in the cx90.
It's called the CX-60. Forbidden fruit in the USA.
Did they change the rear end trunk? It doesn't look as big a lump as the CX-90?
Hey guys big time fan here, just wanted to ask if you guys can include mpg/Empg under your HP and torq #s would be awesome also all in that trunck space a square tired better be optional
Nice! Definitely on the short list for the next family hauler...
Imagine a ballon deflating because thats how I feel😂 i was expecting a wide version of the cx60 and with a real exhaust to compliment the inline 6.
I do like it tho..why no exhaust??seriously
Darn, I missed u guys in nyc. I work across the street from Mazda revel. im a BIG fan from day 1.
Should've just given us the CX60 in North America
What an amazing car - I like the plug in hybrid truck more.
FTR, I'm 72 yo, retired guy, with my wife and No kids any longer in the household. Since the birth of our 1st grandchild in 2015, I have owned 3 3 row SUVs (2016 Infiniti CX-60, a 2019 MDX and now a 22 MDX). we have never had anyone in the 3rd Row. Having said that , I truly like my 22 MDX for it's great handling, ride, and Comfort. The shortcoming of having no Touchscreen is being repeated by Mazda!!! What The Hell are they Thinking??? They should have included BOTH , a Dial (or in the Acura's case a Touch Pad) AND a Touchscreen.
I got an ad for the CX-90 before this video.
Hi! Any chance you can tell us how this would handle two car seats in the 2nd row plus a mom in between?! This is perfect for my 4 person family because the 3rd row removes the middle seat option and I want to be seated next to the infant and want lots of truck space for the stroller plus toddler scooter etc. BUT I need to be able to fit two car seats and a person in that 2nd row
Which one is faster? Cx70 or CX90. The seat deletion means less weight but who knows anymore...
Do you know if the PHEV will get lane centring? (only available in MHEV on CX90)
So I guess I’m waiting for the Cx-60?
