Freight Train - Carter Style and Flatpicking Guitar Lesson!

This is my lesson for the classic tune 'Freight Train' in the key of C. I've created two arrangements for this tune. The first time through we'll learn a basic Carter Style version where we'll play the melody 'right within the chords.'
The second time through we'll get a little fancy and become more expressive with the melody by adding hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides and eighth note runs. We'll also move amove into 3rd position and play the melody on the higher strings, almost like a Doc Watson Approach. Can you strum the second arrangement same as the first

Not really, it's a different approach than the 1st arrangement (carter-style). More consecutive eighth note runs. However, you can strum in areas where there is cross-picking.
