There's hardly ever just one person to blame for the shitshow
I enjoyed Suicide Squad, but maybe the dark tone would have actually helped it in credits so I can’t wait to see the “Ayer cut” when it hopefully comes out
I know it could’ve been sooo much better without the studio’s involvement in butchering it. Not award winning but a complete vision from the director. Ayer’s movies all have depth.
I'm sure the Ayer cut would have been better than what we got, but it still sounds like it has many of the same problems that the studio version does- the entire premise of the Squad being assembled for black-ops missions only to spend the rest of the movie hunting their own renegade teammate, Amanda Waller being dangerously incompetent but still presented as a mastermind, "that" version of The Joker, the whole idea of making a Suicide Squad so early in the DCEU timeline in the first place, the DCEU starting off after Jason Todd has been murdered, Deadshot being more of an anti-hero than a proper villain... I'd be mildly interested in seeing it, but it sounds like a film that was flawed from the outset.
Zack Snyder already said that his 5 movies plan could be the end for this first phase of DC movies, that after them we could have a new phase/reboot. He didn't plan for this to go on like MCU.
I think the main issue was Suicide Squad had too much going on. I think it would've been easier if the premise was "Amanda Waller test her Task Force X by having them hunt down The Batman. As they do however, they come into conflict with Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime and a member of their own team" so the world ending scope is changed for a just crazy enough action film
So I'm actually am friends with the actor who played Jokers, right hand man. At the time another friend of mine was the Right Hand Man's assistant, he called her and asked for dead pig, because Jared Leto called him and said he needed the pig. He also would invite his Right Hand Man over for s*x parties. The dude legit was nuts in the making of this movie.
Wow. I actually didn’t know anything you described the Ayer Cut to be. Thank you for your extensive research. I hope we get to see it one day. Even if it’s just for fun like the Snyder Cut.
If the Ayer cut really releases one day. That would mean there are 3 version of the same movie. Suicide squad (2016) Suicide squad Extended Edition (2016) David’s Ayer Suicide squad (20- -)
Yeah the Ayer Cut sounds like a way better version of Suicide Squad than the theatrical version just like the Snyder Cut was way better than the theatrical version of Justice League
A movie titled SUICIDE SQUAD with VILLAINS as protagonists, and an EVIL WITCH as the antagonist and WB was worried that it was too dark and dreary?? What were they expecting??
I'd be very much down with seeing an Ayer cut. I'm not sure if it was different in any version, but I really laughed out loud when Boomerang got up and left at the end of the big inspirational bar scene. Very funny, but completely undercut when he just pops back up in the slow mo hero shot in the very next scene. I don't think a great version of The Suicide Squad exists, but I'd wager the Ayer cut will bump it up a notch.
They always learn the wrong lessons, just cus one thing fails doesn't mean that same approach won't work for other things. Dark and drab doesn't work for BvS, but for suicide squad it would have fit perfectly.
Considering WB's track record, I foresee the same problems with James Gunn's new DCU. It's already starting out on the wrong foot with confusion from audiences
Yeah he def should’ve waited to tell everyone he was rebooting until after these last few films came out. Basically makes them meaningless. No wonder they’re bombing.
@Bulletsandblockbusters I can understand releasing Aquaman 2 since you've already established the character and maybe there are fans who want to see it. But there was no reason at all to FORCE Blue Beetle!!! Like why?!?!? He's a NEW character why not wait and have him be part of the new continuity??? If the movie is mostly finished and ready to go how about you hold onto it wait, and maybe do a few reshoots and touch ups. Release it AFTER you start your new universe and tie this new character into it. It's not that hard!
@RudieObias Gunn's DCEU hasn't even started yet hence why you're confused and studios always let Gunn cook in peace cause unlike Ayer and Snyder he knows what he's doing. That's what happens when you're good at your job. Baffles me why you all want a Ayer cut ? Without googling it can anyone name any other film he's done? Nope. This flop of his is the only film anyone talks about cause he pulled a Snyder and blamed the studio. So whose fault was it for all his other forgettable flopped films? Netlfix ? Is Netflix also to blame for Snyder's failed zombie sci fi flicks ? Lmfao
One of the things that I said from the beginning was that it was so odd that Suicide Squad was the 3rd movie in the DC Extended Universe yet had nothing to do with the storylines set up in Man of Steel and BvS (outside of that extremely tacked on and illogical post credit scene between Waller and Wayne). I wondered why they didn’t have the SS go after some international terrorist or something only to find out he was in possession of a Mother Box and being assisted by Parademons, which would have tied into Justice League later. Clearly Ayer had something like that in mind and the “design by committee” at WB botched it. Also it might have worked with Snyder’s JL too: introduce the Mother Box, Parademons, and Steppenwolf in SS, but have Enchantress be the ultimate Steppenwolf minion at the end, and set up JL as Steppenwolf teases a larger invasion. It would have tied to Snyder’s cut just fine. All of this goes to show that Snyder and Ayers had a better sense of story arcs, styles, and that universe than any DC/WB Executive ever did.
While I would love to see the Ayer Cut someday, I think it was an inherently short sighted idea to make a Suicide Squad movie as the third film in a DC shared film universe. Still, loving the creative freedom that directors and the like are getting nowadays with comic book movies
@@Bulletsandblockbusters ;) Just needs to be reiterated for the small group who thinks BvS was really well received. It was not. It had record weekly dropoff rates for a film of it's scale. Investors must have been pissed. WB had to interfere and save face, otherwise there would have been other consequences.
The extended cut of bats v supes was revisited by several critics after the release of the snyder cut none say it's perfect but it is much better than the studio version
I just hope we get to see the cut as promised by Gunn someday. I trust it will be a lot better and same as Leto's Joker. Ayer said it scared the shit out of the executives and fans who got to see it said it is a more different darker movie and Leto steals it.
Fucking finally there's somebody actually discussing what happened to the movie, they took his serious and personal Suicide Squad movie and tried to make it into Guardians of the Galaxy. They cut a lot of his El Diablo's story(which was personally connected to David Ayer because he was in the gangbanging lifestyle and turn his life around to be a director) when he was supposed to be the main focus being an ex gangbanger supervillain that accidentally killed his family with his superpowers and was going to be useful to the world by turning into his full fire demon hold back Steppenwolf and stall the invasion and live.
I thought with the promotion of James Gunn that it would be impossible to ever see the Ayer cut but he probably understands full well the frustrations of working in the studio systems.. It would be good to see Ayer's original vision
Un fucking believable… so what you’re saying is we could’ve had a masterpiece?!!! P.S. as much as I like the idea of Harley, Quinn and Deadshot, being together, I think Will Smith wasn’t the right person. Can’t help us but feel like he used his power so to speak to get into that position, considering the controversy surrounding his personal life.
Mabye doubt it would have to fit the vision and not be reshoots no offense he synder are hacks who use excuses and part of the thing rewards to get likes
@@BulletsandblockbustersI have to agree with Tom, you have an incredibly just… easy-going voice. Not too overpowering, it’s really easy watching. You’re going to be huge, dude. Keep it up!
I still think I prefer Gunn's version. But I wouldn't mind seeing Ayer's vision as well. i kind of wanted to see more of Enchantress and thought she got a raw deal. also i had some fun scene ideas in my head for what her interactions with Harley would've been if they were doing mission stuff together. Like Enchantress being really weirded out by Harley being friends with her despite all her creepiness and trying to freak everybody out.
To this day, I say that Jared Leto's Joker was underrated and underutilized. His Joker was a modern day Golden Age Joker( the clown prince of crime, not the bronze age homicidal maniac that Ledger and Phoenix portrayed.) I loved the design, the tatoos the grills replacing the teeth that Batman knocked out, the slicked back hair, suits, clothes, chains guns cars, and henchmen. It all screamed that this Joker had a value for money and power. These things also enhance and feed into the themes of possesion, and control that the Joker exudes towards Harley, which was apart of their original dynamic in TAS. I also loved how good he pulled off the comic book frame refrenceces in the movie, that shot of him with his face burnt hair ruined in the tux looks just like the Joker in the Batman Endgame comic which released not too long before Suicide Squad was released. I really hope people one day come to understand how unique and refreshing Jared Leto's Joker was so we can see another Joker like this in the future.
The retelling of a death in the Family with Leto and Affleck in Affleck's Batman movie would have been. 👌🏽 Would have been great to see if WB had let Snyder do MOS2 and Batman 1 before whatever BVSUE would have been. Just focusing on the story and having action enhance it. Not chasing Marvel.
It would’ve been amazing to see Stepenwolf and revealing that he has been controlling Enchantress with the mother boxes and having the parademons being the minions and it would’ve been a great set up to Justice League
Hello! Thanks for sharing this interesting informations. I saw the movie for the first time a few days ago and now Im OBSESSED with Joker. He has such appeal and his existence is so badass. I find normal hero films very boring because they have a fully covered suit on and anyone can become a hero. But joker is different for me. For me there is only this one joker with Leto and I would so so so so love to see the extended version.I hope it gets released at someday.
A third Burton Batman would have been great, and Schumacher's Batman sequel to Batman Returns would also have been great had the studio greenlit his ideas.
@elevenseven-yq4vu And he was also wanting to do an origen story film for Batman but that was shut down immediately, We would have had Batman begins earlier so I don't know how to feel about that since Batman begins 2005 is pretty goated
@@optimascrime5235 For me it is: 1. Batman Returns 2. The Batman 3. Batman Begins when it comes to Bats. I also enjoyed Shazam! and Birds of Prey a lot: A great oldschool children's adventure movie with family values, and a great MacGuffin-chasin' brutal action dark comedy with a manic-psychotic anti-villain as unreliable tall-tale narrator and your typical evil Gothamites chewing the scenery. Especially the last one is totes underrated, might gain a cult following over the coming years - hopefully. I like how it is so bright and colorful, and still has the meanest villains yet, and such a toxic dynamic duo at that. The portrayal of Gotham City as a dog eat dog world is spot on, and yet Harley treats it like it's her personal playground. Such a hoot. Might be my second favourite Gotham on the big screen, right after Batman Returns and slightly ahead of Joker. Oh, and speaking of Joker - such a great movie as well - I loved the set design, the direction, the performances - DeNiro finally back to form instead of just phoning it in. DC can be great, just give single movies to good filmmakers and trust their vision. We don't need yet another MCU styled caped telenovela. Trying to emulate that was doomed from the get-go.
4:16 Wrong, The Ayer Cut was never tested, just Ayer’s version of the light hearted take and the studio’s light hearted take. The only people to see THE Ayer Cut is David himself and Will Rowlands.
The Theatrical Cut felt like a Harley & Friends movie to me. I'm glad Ayers wanted to give more depth and focus to the other characters. Also me being Native American, I was sad Slipknot got such a quick death in both versions. I know the guy dies but why did they have Adam Beach promote the movie? Poor guy. 😂
A slight side track but within the realm; could you consider creating a reaction tribute to the late and amazing Kevin Conroy? On November 15th will be the first anniversary of his death. He was the sole reason I got into acting. I have a voice acting background and there are some preconceived notions that it's not as demanding as regular acting; but the vocal training itself and perfecting the craft may take more time than any acting school. l feel like he's a bit underrated as Batman (ditto Mark Hamill as Joker) and even non existent in the conversation when the motion pictures are brought up. PS. You almost saw me as Leon in those new Resident Evil games :)
Great video on a sad story. I remember going to see this one in the theaters with my daughter and we both agreed that the best part was the end when they cut to 21 pilots playing Heathens. Crazy how this studio had chance after chance to NOT mess this up yet they did. Jeff Johns is a classic example of someone with a creative mind who has no business being in Live Action movie production. I truly hope this one gets its Ayer Cut release and I’m pretty sure this one will be very very good as Ayer has said it’s done and there’s hardly anything else to do. We won’t be seeing him do what Snyder did when he was given the $70 million to fix his cut. I’m a huge Snyder fan but he got carried away and decided to give us everything which resulted in over 4 hours of too much. I loved it but I understand why many were critical of the length and unnecessary scenes. This Ayer cut won’t have any of that. It’ll be a simple clear cut “F U” to try old WB’s regime showing what they could’ve had
Thanks for the video, would you rather have the Ayer cut for this movie, or the Trank cut for Fantastic Four 2015, Josh Trank said that his original cut was great but the studio meddling and conflicts ruined it and I can tell
After seeing the Snyder cut of JL it blows my mind to think about how many completely different movies never saw the light of day due to studio meddling
Brutally honestly, while I do hope the Ayer Cut gets released one day, not only to see the differences to the Theatrical Version on screen and out of Morbid Curiosity, but also because I believe every directors original vision should be seen regardless of the qaulity, I also don't think his cut would be that good. I mean, yeah, sure it would be better then the Theatrical Version (hell, anything would be better then the Theatrical Version of Suicide Squad 2016, that's one of the reasons I love James Gunns The Suicide Squad, because it's literally just a better version of the concept), we also have to remember, Ayer is the same man who gave us not so great and outright bad films like Sabotage, Fury, Tax Collectors, and Bright. He's not the same director who gave us Training Day and End of Watch anymore and like M. Night Shyamalan, Damian Chazelle, and Michael Bay, his newer films are just not great. Not to mention, I'd argue this situation is slightly different to that of JL, with Justice League, almost the entirety of Snyders original vision was changed into what Whedon gave us in 2017 with very little from Snyders Version remaining, to the point where it almost feels a different film. With Suicide Squad, while not all of Ayers stuff was left in, a good amount of it is still there. Granted spliced with reshoot stuff and also heavily edited to Cringe levels of Nauseum, but still. Meaning while yes it would be a better made film, the Ayer Cut I feel would not only still have some of the same problems the Theatrical cut did, but also it I still feel it wouldn't be enough to save it from being a bad movie, or at least a mid movie, because like I said, anything, and I mean ANYTHING, is better then the Theatrical cut. It also means more Jared Leto Joker which...no, just.....just no. With this said, I still hope the Ayer Cut is released one day, even though I wonder how Gunn is going to do it. He can't make it canon to his universe, because that would mean the Death of Superman already happened by the time Superman Legacy occurs, and also there's alot of stuff in SS 2016 (the Ayer Cut I mean) that I think would contradict the new DCU, and even TSS 2021 for that matter. So it have to be an Elseworlds Labelled title, but Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn as well in the Ayer Cut, and Gunn will most likely be staying for the new DCU, so I wonder how Gunn will be able to release and have it be a Elseworlds Labelled film without confusing people.
Like I said in your Man of Steel 2 video another movie that would’ve been amazing but interference from the studio kept us from seeing an awesome movie
leto's Joker was outstanding, one must take in the world he's in, along with the Kind of Batman and what the comics are doing at the time. His Joker is a combination of all of those things. And the negtivite comes from the mainstream not fully understanding the character, the Joker changes to fit with the times, he adapts.
I actually enjoyed the extended cut of Suicide Squad and its one of my fav DCEU movies. I wish it was available in 4k. Anyway, all of that aside, I'm always behind "directors cut" releases and would love to check this one out.
Ayer's original version of Suicide Suicide may not be a perfect movie, but I believe at least could be a more cohesive product, the pacing and editing would be better, the story would make a lot more sense and would be accurate to the first trailer released in Comic Con, that was the movie I wanted to see and not some butchered version by the studio with shitty editing, lazy reshoots and forced humor put into it. I hope this version gets released one day. You could try to talk about some of Flash's cancelled projects, Warner was trying to make a Flash movie since the 80s basically, just to end up on that disaster released this year. The most notorious ones are the David Goyer version, that would have Ryan Reynolds as Wally West, and the Greg Berlanti one, with the same team of writers responsable for the first version of Green Lantern script, later on they also started to develop the Arrowverse on the CW and Berlanti put a lot of elements of his Flash movie script in the first season of The Flash show. The two scripts are available online and both are MUCH better than the crap version that came out this year. Also would be fun if you talk about the cancelled Green Arrow project "Escape From Supermax", this would have been a pretty violent movie with Oliver Queen trying to escape this prison called Supermax and a lot of C-list villains from DC would have appeared, the script is full available online. Also Warner wanted Matt Damon to play the role of Green Arrow in this movie. Another DC cool project that never see the light of day is Guillhermo Del Toro's Justice League Dark, starring John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing and Etrigan, the script is also online, and that one leaked just 2 years ago I believe.
You mean they would have actually done propper world building? WB biggest issue was chasing Marvel/Disney instead of just doing their own thing and letting their directors/writers do their thing and build a solid story arc
Ayer is honestly very hit-or-miss as a director, he can deliver good stuff (Harsh Times, Street Kings, End of Watch, Fury) or stuff like Sabotage and Bright, I somehow feel even his original cut would have ended in the “missed” category.
I got to be honest, I checked out once "House of the Rising Sun" was heard. I thought it was simply too cliche and was evidence it was directed by a committee.
Honestly, I think the better thing to do instead of always having stories where Harley leave Joker would be for her to give just as good as she gets. Maybe Harley can bonk Joker on the head with a mallet every once in a while. And maybe Joker can not want to let her go because she's the only one who appreciates his shtick.

I'd be mildly interested in seeing it, but it sounds like a film that was flawed from the outset.
💯
Better in this case probably doesn't mean good, just decent.
The villain should've been Joker, even Ayer admits it in some statements.
But I think the Ayer cut is better and we have to see it before anything.
We deserve the Ayer Cut.
That image of him in his pad, surrounded by knives, guns, laptops, and baby clothes is the definitive Joker image.
I’ve been dying for this video! Thanks for looking into this, I love your channel. Keep doing what you do!
Thank you!!!
Wow. I actually didn’t know anything you described the Ayer Cut to be. Thank you for your extensive research. I hope we get to see it one day. Even if it’s just for fun like the Snyder Cut.
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it
I just realized that Kitana, the actress, is Kimiko from The Boys!!🤯
If the Ayer cut really releases one day. That would mean there are 3 version of the same movie.

Bruh turn that 20 into 21 we finna get no Ayer cut 😭🙏. As much as I want too this version seems so damn good!
@@kurtpeterson4035both released by WB. Take from that what you will.
Another great video!
Really makes me want to watch the Ayer cut
Thanks!
If Superman Legacy underperforms, WB will intervene..... inevitable. This has been the DC film holding pattern since the 1990s
Lmfao
@Knightfall182 it won't cause unlike Snyder & Ayer he's a very successful director. He's proven that countless times and yet ya'll still doubt him .
Really great job man I would love to see the Ayer cut sometime but this covers can't wait for more.
Thanks!
Favorite part of the week, watching Bullets & Blockbusters on Saturday morning, another great video
Thnx fam
Wow the original version sounded incredible now I want to watch it.
We NEED this film
We really don’t 😂
Lol. We really do
The WB cut of Suicide Squad is proof that BvS was *really Poorly* received from audiences.. and the studio was in panic mode! 😄😄
Basically
@@Bulletsandblockbusters ;) Just needs to be reiterated for the small group who thinks BvS was really well received. It was not. It had record weekly dropoff rates for a film of it's scale. Investors must have been pissed. WB had to interfere and save face, otherwise there would have been other consequences.
100%
The extended cut of bats v supes was revisited by several critics after the release of the snyder cut none say it's perfect but it is much better than the studio version
It was certainly reviewed poorly on release.
Absolutely loving these videos
This is fantastically researched! I'd love to see one of these videos on MIB 23, the cancelled Men In Black and Jump Street crossover film
Thanks! And it’s on the to do list

I think it would’ve been a very different movie for sure! And hopefully a great one.
Great content as always!
Really hope Gunn keeps his word. Much rather see this then yet another reboot Batman.
If I believe anyone I believe Gunn will make it happen.
Mabye doubt it would have to fit the vision and not be reshoots no offense he synder are hacks who use excuses and part of the thing rewards to get likes

Underrated compliment
If we can get the Snyder Cut, we can certainly get the Ayer Cut. I felt the potential for Jared's Joker.
I can't describe how excited I was based on the original, somber trailer. And then, well, you know.
Thanks for the video ❤
You're welcome 😊
I really want to see the Ayer cut
So glad I found this channel, you sir have a new sub 👍🏼
Welcome aboard!
2:23 you can see a new 52 Harley Quinn funko
We would all really want to see David Ayer’s true and final vision for this movie. #ReleaseTheAyerCut
I really want David Ayer’s cut.
WB and Disney will never learn to stop messing with perfectly fine movie's even great one's
@@optimascrime5235 For me it is:
1. Batman Returns
2. The Batman
3. Batman Begins
when it comes to Bats.
See! Now this would have been so much better!
More Joker!
4:16 Wrong, The Ayer Cut was never tested, just Ayer’s version of the light hearted take and the studio’s light hearted take. The only people to see THE Ayer Cut is David himself and Will Rowlands.
Really looking forward to seeing this one day still
The Theatrical Cut felt like a Harley & Friends movie to me. I'm glad Ayers wanted to give more depth and focus to the other characters. Also me being Native American, I was sad Slipknot got such a quick death in both versions. I know the guy dies but why did they have Adam Beach promote the movie? Poor guy. 😂
Hopefully Ayer restores his backstory and introduction for the Ayer cut

Love Conroy! I grew up on TAS. Maybe in the future I can do a video on him but my plate is full for the immediate future.

I think that Suicide Squad should gave been a tv show instead of a movie
Thanks for the video, would you rather have the Ayer cut for this movie, or the Trank cut for Fantastic Four 2015, Josh Trank said that his original cut was great but the studio meddling and conflicts ruined it and I can tell
I’m going to eventually do a video on that but can’t say for certain now without knowing more of what trank saw for F4. You?
The Trank cut
@@Sadman-nu4lzagreed, considering we at least got an extended cut of the original SS
After seeing the Snyder cut of JL it blows my mind to think about how many completely different movies never saw the light of day due to studio meddling
@@loganwithlightsabers3051Halloween 6 is a perfect example of a different film.
Even if the ayer cut is good. Honestly he went too far left or right with how dark the movie was suppose to be. The studio was smart for stepping in.
Hard agree, people tend to forget that the guy basically peaked with training day
Fury is a good movie.
This video was so well done that it made me depressed overall whenever I think about the DCEU 💔
Like I said in your Man of Steel 2 video another movie that would’ve been amazing but interference from the studio kept us from seeing an awesome movie
💯
I thinks is outrageous how people accepted Jared's behavior. I don't care how famous he is, he should have been called out for that behavior.
2017 onwards he would have been.
Letto's Ace Ventura gangsta was ridiculous
Jared Leto is my favorite Joker, don't know why he gets so much hate
Cause heath is just that good
Damn I would’ve loved to see Deadshot and Harley together
leto's Joker was outstanding, one must take in the world he's in, along with the Kind of Batman and what the comics are doing at the time. His Joker is a combination of all of those things. And the negtivite comes from the mainstream not fully understanding the character, the Joker changes to fit with the times, he adapts.
Great video! Hopefully we get to see the true vision one day!
Thnx!
I actually enjoyed the extended cut of Suicide Squad and its one of my fav DCEU movies. I wish it was available in 4k.
Anyway, all of that aside, I'm always behind "directors cut" releases and would love to check this one out.
Agreed. I know we're in the minority but oh well. Like you said though, we need it on 4K UHD
I so excited to see the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad.
Real reason why it sucked: They cut out most of Jared Leto scenes
Yeah because the world really needed more Jared Leto ….
As someone else said, Hollywood learns the wrong lessons from successful movies.
Dear will, you never go full Will.
Haha
You mean they would have actually done propper world building? WB biggest issue was chasing Marvel/Disney instead of just doing their own thing and letting their directors/writers do their thing and build a solid story arc
thumbnail is freakin dope!!
Ayer is honestly very hit-or-miss as a director, he can deliver good stuff (Harsh Times, Street Kings, End of Watch, Fury) or stuff like Sabotage and Bright, I somehow feel even his original cut would have ended in the “missed” category.
Bright is underrated. I’ve watched it twice now & i still don’t understand the hate.
@@lxXSuddenDeathXxlbright has more issues from the writing and i dislike the movie but i saw potential if it had a far better script
Beekeeper was good.
Damn.. realease the ayer cut. Sounds much better
