TOPIC: “Beyond Statins: New Lipid Goals, Targets, and Treatments to Reverse Atherosclerosis"
    LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
    1. Review the evidence base for statins as the cornerstone of LDL-lowering therapy and ASCVD prevention
    2. Apply evidence from new clinical trials with nonstatin therapy (ezetimibe, PCSK9 inhibitors) into practice
    3. Compare and contrast current Cholesterol Guidelines (2013 ACC/AHA, 2015 NLA, and 2016 ACC Non-Statin Expert Consensus)
    4. Understand how future targets of lipid-lowering therapy may further reduce residual cardiovascular risk
    SPEAKER:
    Terry A. Jacobson MD
Professor of Medicine, Emory University Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics
Director, Lipid Clinic and Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Program, Grady Health System
    Past President, National Lipid Association

This research is fundamentally incorrect and outmoded. Low Carb Down Under has a bunch of meta-analysis which demonstrate the terribly errors. Statins are bad. High LDL is correlated with increased life expectancy no matter what your diseases.
Lowering your cac is not difficult. This guys channel has great info. He has weekly q&a. There are several ways to heal your plaque problems. Low carb/no carb and vitamin d + K2 are placed to start looking

Are lipid experts in existence to justify mandating statins?

Statins stimulate atherosclerosis and heart failure: pharmacological mechanisms. Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology.. Vol. 8, 2015, issue 2. Statins inhibit the biosynthesis of selenium containing proteins, one of which is glutathione peroxidase, serving to suppress peroxidative stress. An impairment of selenoprotein biosynthesis may be a factor in congestive heart failure, ...Statins are contraindicated in diabetics as statin administration did not prevent diabetics from CHD (ASPEN [55] and 4D study [56]), and statins worsen diabetic control [7]. Detailed mechanism of statin effects in diabetes has been published [7,19].

You don't need expensive medications. Adapting to a whole food, plant-based diet will reverse atherosclerosis and provide greater health in other areas.

@Lil Anthrax Reversing metabolic syndrome and abstaining from sugar will reverse atherosclerosis. Insulin is much more important than LDL.
