I think if you get a truck you might as well go diesel, better fuel efficiency for sure but oil changes and filter are going to be a lot more. That being said the resale value will pay for that.
In my 3 years of owning an LB7 in the middle of bumfuck nowhere Minnesota my truck hasn't started once. That was last winter when it was -30 to -40 for a week and the only reason it didn't start was because my batteries froze that's not a diesel problem it's a battery problem.
Everyone wants diesel until it's time to do diesel things. I've done my injectors =$5000 for the shop to do it, I've done water pump, complete brake job, fuel and brake lines. $100 to change oil, just for oil and filters. Cost of ownership is considerably higher and everyone who's debating on which needs to understand that.
If you aren't towing heavy daily or weekly don't get the diesel. The math just doesn't work anymore. They no longer have the MPG advantage, cost of ownership is through the roof, and while they >can< last a long time that doesn't mean they will or are even likely to any more. The days of the really simple solid diesels are over. For the added cost of a diesel that >might< last 4-500K miles, you could buy a gasser and drive it 3-400+K miles until the engine blows, then go buy another engine and still come out ahead.
The last category is subjective if it’s a diesel crawling would be better for that low end torque but if you have a prerunner gas all day it just depends on the situation off-road
Here in Ohio I have a gasser and during cold whether I’m in my truck letting it heat up while my friend has a diesel and is trying for minutes to turn it on
Well , I had a 2018 6.0 gasser & I just traded for 2020 duramax & I will never go back to gass. To me the comparison is not even close. I want from filling up every two - three days to once per week.
Both. Diesel is for tow, gas for daily go..thats how I roll. -99 5.9 5speed flatty lifted on 37s Cummins. And 2003 z71 chevy Tahoe 5.3 gasser on 33s. 373 gears and axle dumps minus the muffler and cold air for that rice whoosh.
Honestly I would love to see an Offroad race between The Arkon K-350 and CO2. You should do three differnt stages and do like time trials or something. Then we can decide who the Offroad crown goes to. 👌🏼
I feel that off road would depend on your setting due to the torque diesels put out they have better capabilities in rocky terrain but in wet and sticky situations the lighter gas engine would work better like you said
If it's a diesel go midsize with a inline straight 4 cylinder and that's because of the size of the fuel tank and cost as well. If you want to go gasser go for a full size one. They are pretty good and the lift kits will probably be cheaper not only that but maintenance will be cheaper than a full sized diesel. Even when it comes to towing the full sized gas will probably have the same mileage as the midsize diesel mainly because of the size of the size of the fuel tank.
Depends, 4x4 is more expensive and makes the truck heavier due to the transfer case components. Although the weight is rather negligible in terms of fuel economy. It's really an issue of price
Most of the diesel mechanics that I know prefer owning a gas truck vs diesel. Why? Because of the overall simplicity of maintenance and low cost of ownership. Also, most diesel truck owners get sucked into hype and allure of the diesel engine that can generate "bookoo" torque and HP numbers. However, the vast majority of these diesel truck owners rarely tow anything. And, if they do tow a trailer or RV, it will be very infrequently (i.e 'maybe' a couple times a year). Thus, if you own a rig that does a significant amount of towing then, a diesel truck makes complete sense. However, if your trucks usage is more daily driver or making a once-in-a-while run to the local Home Depot, your wasting money owning a diesel. Just like my diesel mechanic friends told me when I was looking to buy my last HD truck, stay away from a diesel if you don't have a real need for frequent heavy towing.
I think you need to see your lifestyle habits and what you will use the truck for. Personally, I want to tow and carry stuff around. Diesels last long but it can go either direction cause if you take care of things...they last. Diesel is expensive but it depends on the size of the engine as well. You can't compare a 7.3L gasser with a 2.0 bi turbo diesel from the ranger raptor. That engine is huge.
@@kodakbrown4461 not much. I can pay it off right now if I wanted too. I put almost 20k to the truck since I like new truck parts but I got nothing but performance parts only. Plan on lifting it next year or the year after
If y’all wanted to do a match off-road you could also do a good video after how to clean our engine bay thoroughly and safely since everything new has so many wires and fuses
anything heavier then a skid loader on an appropriately sized trailer for said loader, go diesel, that being said if you’re driving more then 30 min. Away from your shop with that loader and trailer get diesel, fuel economy, heavier duty powertrain, and power will make you glad you did, but if you’re just scooting around town with loader, a bunch of lawn mowers or plowing snow in your area go gasser the oil changes, cheaper fuel, and ease of finding a shop to have work done will make you happier.
Considering only being on oil field lease roads and don’t to haul a big trailer (Enough for a quad or side by side) a gasser works for me. A $100K-120K CAD diesel isn’t worth it. When you can might as well own a work truck and a personal truck and it’s still affordable with a mortgage
Just picked up a 2002 4x4 F350 Lariat with 150k miles on it with the 7.3 diesel pretty much meant other than wear and tear on the seats a little you'd expect for a 20-year-old truck but it's almost immaculate. So you guys throw out numbers Guess what I paid oh yeah I forgot to add It's got this little knob on it that has six positions and when I turn it up the truck seems to go a lot faster!
I got a mostly stock coyote 4x4 except for the exhaust. And I blow the doors off Cummins, power stroke. Duramax, what ever you got. Even with my big snow tires on I can beat them off the line. I can't wait to add a supercharger.
Definitely a 7.3. Gotta love havin a diesel. We had a 2000 7.3 we put almost 200k miles on it(bought it at 300k) that truck was a beast. Although, I have a 2014 f150 with the 5.0 and it’s very reliable. We’ve pulled about 13k with it What we pulled was a 12x6 dump trailer with 4ft sides full of wet mulch and it pulled good. Wasn’t too enjoyable, but did it. Either way you could pull, but a diesel would do it better, plus a diesel is a lot more fun tho🤣
SnipperZ Lawn Care Jr. it’s also gotta be a farm truck and I personally wouldn’t want my nice F-150 to go to crap. I plan to get one later but I’m thinking a 7.3 rn

my 6.slow chevy may not be as cool as a duramax or make the cool noises but Id bet the added fuel cost of diesel offsets the better milage and when you ad in all the extra parts that can fail on a modern diesel it will be a better option. I can put turbos on my 6.0 for pennies compared to just repairing failures on a diesle and make all the power at a fraction of the cost.
I feel overall everything is really based on personal preference. Gas Trucks while the better option for many who don't do much like myself may not be a bad idea however historically and in most cases a full tank of diesel will last 2x as long as a full tank of gas in the same sized truck. for example let's take my uncles 2001, dodge ram, 2500 Cummins diesel and compare it to the same year V8 gas pick up. he is a landscaper (owns a company) and he has had diesels 90% of the time for his business. he had one or 2 gas trucks but they were ultimately replaced by diesel pickups. for one he would go 2 weeks without needing to fill the tank during the season and when plowing in the winter but his gas trucks would have had to be filled 1-2 times a week. for me I don't do a lot but will be in the coming years however even now to get and maintain a gas truck although slightly cheaper would cost exponentially more in fuel than a diesel. at this point It will be 6-8 weeks before I make a decision but short of the cybertruck being available which I won't see until at least mid 2025 a used diesel over a gas seems more logical even if it doesn't get used much in the short term. my thought process for all of this is get what you can use most. don't just get the gas truck because it may save you 1000 a year in maintenance in fuel over the diesel because you don't do much but rather get what you want knowing you have the capabilities of doing more. Everything in life is about mindset. too many are thinking short term rather than long term. If you buy a diesel pick up truck and properly maintain it and take care of it, it will last you a lifetime, whereas a gas truck will eventually break need a new motor and new transmission etc.. Why do you think semi trucks are diesel and not gas.
I have a 15.5 lml and I truly wouldn’t mind a gas. The only thing that made me get a diesel is my long distance hauling heavy loads. For a a daily driver I wish I had a gasser
If it's midsize. Get a diesel. Especially a inline straight 4 cylinder diesel not a gasser V6. If You want a half or quarter tonner get a gasser. The diesel engines in the big boys are super expensive not only to buy but to maintain as well and if it breaks you'll want that 4 cylinder diesel. Less moving parts and lasts longer but on the big boys get a gasser they're probably the same cost as a midsize inline straight 4 cylinder diesel.
I would agree Diesel parts are stronger but they are made to handle more power and I see more diesel parts breaking that gasser parts so I think the first match up is a closer comparison than you say most gassers parts last longer and you could say well diesels can take more miles but I don’t know that that statement is true either because we have owned a couple gasser with 300k miles so it’s a very thought first comparison but still go diesel
If you can't get at least a half million out of a diesel before it needs moderate help you're doing something wrong. They're known for going upwards of a million
You can't ask this question in a subjective way. Because in all counts minus weekly towing the gas option is better. Im the enthusat market place the costs of the diesel don't matter the fact annually its costing about 3k more then the gas truck
For me,Diesel is better cause you can 1:Roal coal like a boss😂 2:More power 3:Having a turbo with a diesel sounds AMAZING and it has that spool 4:its cheaper 5:its reliable Thats why I like diesel more than gas
I want a diesel but am not getting one bc I can tell u right now I would go through tires, fuel, transmissions, anything u can go through 😂 my dad is helping me with my truck and he said if u want a diesel I won’t help u so I’m going with gas
Diesel engines cost more. Weight more. Repairs cost more. Fuel cost more. Plus you need the fuel additive. I say at the end of the day the Diesel engine will run you some money but the diesel is a power house.
I’ve always stuck with gassers. Got 237k on my older 1500. Got a newer 2500 with 6.4. Not worried about mpg. Not gonna pay that extra money up front and during maintenance. Not worth it to me
Diesel is better all around truck. But offroad gas is better. Unless we include the diesel zr2 or the small cummins motor you can out into a jeep. Imo gas is still better offroad. Its lighter so you will float better over mud and also wont out as much strain on your suspension while being offroad.
Probably more than you need and very expensive. But yeah awesome trucks. Almost everybody wrecks their first truck, I had already flipped two before I had my learner's permit.
My first truck was a 77 dodge power wagon. Great first truck learned how to work on. 17 years later I now spin wrenches professionally, buy something cheap. As a teenager you will destroy it. Trust me that old power saw a couple ditches and a roll back tow truck. I had one pissed off old man
Dave Gordon ok thanks for the advice,I hope I don’t flip my first truck,my mom has taught me how to drive on the streets and drove on the highway a few times but still learning
I got a pick up It's a 2002 GMC Sierra with the 5.3 Vortec motor gas and I'm thanking about swapping the engine to a cummins engine instead of the GMC Gasser. What do u thank I should do?I also tow,off-road and I travel a lot too and it snows where I live also.what do u thank I should do
Both those trucks would suck on trailers in AZ. Not enough side wall on them. Off road requires good traction and good tire placement. Rpms don't matter on the trailer. Its your low gear and tire line. Never have i look at what my rpms are when off-roading.
I’d prefer gas. It can hold gears for longer. Rev higher. And in my opinion it sounds better. And it’s easier to just get in and go in the winter with gas.
My first truck is a 2000 ram 2500 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins. I don’t think I’ll touch a gas truck for the rest of my life unless it was like a single cab 5.7/ 5.0 coyote

Off road challenge...Send it!!!
I for sure want to see an off-road challenge between a gas and diesel truck!
I smell a video of you guys off-roading the trucks
Owned the 7.0 powerstroke and loved it.
The way I go is gas for sport trucks, diesel for work trucks. Usually works out
I’ve got a diesel and I wouldn’t off-road it like I’ve done my past v8s. I wouldn’t risk it. Which one is better off-road?
For me,Diesel is better cause you can
1:Roal coal like a boss😂
2:More power
3:Having a turbo with a diesel sounds AMAZING and it has that spool
4:its cheaper
5:its reliable
Thats why I like diesel more than gas
Off road test !!! 🤘🏻
I want a diesel but am not getting one bc I can tell u right now I would go through tires, fuel, transmissions, anything u can go through 😂 my dad is helping me with my truck and he said if u want a diesel I won’t help u so I’m going with gas
Diesel is better off-road u say this because they deliver more torque so although it heavier in the front the extra torque would help
I would say for a first truck u should go for gas for it’s not so expensive but other then that diesel all the way
Next video should be them testing the off-road capability between the 2
Diesel engines cost more.
Not worth it to me
Take them off-road!!! I'll drive up there to see it!!! Gas VS Diesel!!
Dude I was more interested in the Mig 15 chillin on the ground at 4:05 over the dodge
When he said mayo spicy 🌶I was rolling
Diesel is better all around truck. But offroad gas is better. Unless we include the diesel zr2 or the small cummins motor you can out into a jeep. Imo gas is still better offroad. Its lighter so you will float better over mud and also wont out as much strain on your suspension while being offroad.
Would a 2015-2019 Chevy 2500hd duramax be a good first truck? I got 3 year to I get my license just trying to save for a truck
@@223ko I hope you don't flip it too. Just wear your seatbelt and don't worry about impressing anybody. You'll be fine
Dave Gordon ok thanks
Diesel would be so much better if the EPA would quit with all the regulations.
This is why I chose a M1123 Humvee & a M35a2
7.3 till I die.
Diesels a lot more fun but the newer diesels are a lot more headache compared to gassers.
Unpopular opinion: sound of a supercharged gas > sound of a turbocharged diesel.
I Don't care for Electric truck. the cyber truck piss me off every time I look at it. Gas or diesel for life lol
ADRIAN DIY AMEN! 🙏
Especially when they claim they’re saving the planet lol
I’d prefer gas. It can hold gears for longer. Rev higher. And in my opinion it sounds better. And it’s easier to just get in and go in the winter with gas.
My first truck is a 2000 ram 2500 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins. I don’t think I’ll touch a gas truck for the rest of my life unless it was like a single cab 5.7/ 5.0 coyote
So is Banker's new truck a diesel?
