I love gardening and gardens and lighting
I watched this video for the first time when I was nine years old. It's safe to say I still love lighting and electrical. 9 years later. This video really inspired me.
Ron, You came through for me again. I am installing for the first time landscape lighting for a customer. Of course I want to do it right and you have explained it clearly unlike all the other videos I have watched. I have always liked the way you talk slowly, don't use Trade Terms and watching your videos gives me confidence in learning to do it myself. I want to get good at this so that I can include this skill into my Handyman Menu of services. There is a great opportunity for up charging for the materials which as you have displayed can be rather pricy! Thank you again. Jim's Got It Home Services, LLC
this guy is a Shakespeare of the landscape lighting. what a master.
I’ve watched 4-5 videos and this one showed it the best so far.
Check out this playlist I recently recorded. Goes over an installation from start to finish in more detail. Hope this helps anyone who needs more details! ua-cam.com/play/PL-QaaW0f_SNf9WSG0D2tuS2aiLVWGiKVS.html
This is the type of stuff that used to be on the TLC Channel when I was a kid.
It's amazing how a little bit of lighting can totally change your yard. Looks great!
Well done video.. loved when you climbed that tree ..
This is an outstanding video!
Awesome video, Thanks. Would like to see more Rachel.
You have todo the work
just wow. appreciate for the simple and understandable video.
Excellent video.
Very helpful in many levels thank you
Super!!!
Incredibly educational! Than you for providing this video. I learned a lot!
👍👍👍👍👍👍This is good ! Great idea!
Oh I wish it was THAT easy. Great video, thanks.
Beautiful. Great video.
Now that the 2 low voltage systems are 2 years old: What works what does not? Any changes to the lights?
great video. takes the intimidation out of landscape lighting
Sir do i need that transformer or i can use direct from my house power supply?
Nice video. Great job.
Fantastic video! Thanks Ron!
LED lights were a major upgrade and reduced the number of transponders needed and are so much brighter. The process for the most part is still the same.
Very good!
material list of what you got for the job would of been nice.
Use wire nuts instead of the brass barrel and heat shrink for connections. Simpler, safer, easier.
Kyle Butler not water or dirt proof though. Won't last very long before corrosion gets in.
They sell silicon filled wire nuts rated for wet locations.
wire nuts are the second worst connectors for this next to quick connects. www.bti-lighting.com
Great ideas, Thanks.
Nice video. One comment, how does one keep from running over and breaking the exposed uplighting?
This is an awesome video!
what are the 2 brands he used for garden lights? can anyone share?
Loran Nightscaping, Lumiére, and Intermatic/Malibu (now defunct)
Ah, the days of harmonica-laced background music...
🤣🤣🤣
Why the need for low voltage, 12vr, if the power is off?
Wish the routing of the wire was explained. Great ideas though.
For anyone with the same question looking through the comments, here is a video I created to explain how to plan, trench, and bury low voltage wire. ua-cam.com/video/8glUupDgU3Q/v-deo.html
Shouldn't you test them first before you bury them?
Not necessarily. When a light doesn't come on / doesn't work, it usually has to do with the connectors, which can easily be uprooted. But there definitely needs to be a finally check.
I felt for his roof at 3:10. Man needs to clean his shingles before the algae/moss and mildew take hold.
I know, it's an old video... But don't use a torch on shrink wraps! If the glue burns, it's not really useful!
Yeah we used a heat gun for stuff like that at my last job
Craig Perkey me too. Or at home, the wife’s hair dryer.
I just added two lights to my existing layout and now several bulbs are not turning on and others are dimmed. here is a link illustrating what I am talking about. Box is transformer 300 watts and the red line are the ones I added. photos.app.goo.gl/k3pCy3cQzaXqV8kt9
Any idea why this voltage drop is happening?
What software is used for the diagram?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Looks great, but the lawn guy must hate having to mow around all those lights in the lawn. But how other way could that tree be illuminated.
Those connections and the burned heat shrink though....
Dont forget to get your permit and hire a licensed electrician. In New Jersey anything over 10 volts require a license to work on. Its only a 4th degree felony and up to a $10,000.00 fine though if caught working without one. Good luck and happy lighting!
prove it. i don't believe you...
doesn't apply to homeowners
I cringed when I saw the burnt heat shrink
+John Doe I'll be totally honest, I never thought it would be that bad when I read your comment...
I would have used a heat gun, not a flame.
Totally agree! ALWAYS use a heat gun!
Lol, yeah me too
That's going to be nightmare for the lawn and landscape guys to deal with
really.
Where are the electrical pipes to encase the wire?????
+frank mead You don't need to encase the wires, but it would be good for longevity. It's low voltage and it's very easy to replace.
I agree, when I do this myself, I'll probably take the extra time to do some conduit. I'd hate to go back again and fix because I didn't protect the wires.
Totally unnecessary. It's direct bury wire, you only use conduit for high voltage or any parts of the low voltage system exposed. e.g. transformer to ground. Waste of time and money to put LV into conduit. Do your homework before over doing something for the sake of over doing something.
12:00 Me when chased my a dog
Dial 811 "CALL BEFORE YOU DIG"
this shows insurance covers him climbing up that high in a tree with no harness or gear? wow
god that's complicated
I don't like the fact that the guy does not really let the girl talk and she needs to push her way in.
Have fun replacing all that Intermatic connections and lights in about 2 years. It's complete and total junk and those connections are a joke.
LMAO!! As a professional landscaper, I have never worn WHITE pants to work; nor have I ever seen such a "sterile" environment in which to work! No rocks? No stumps? No issues? Really...just that simple, huh? LMAO....
Seems like a lot time, money and effort compared to what solar lights can do these days.
Would look better with 6500k LEDs I reckon.
$5,000 bucks later...
Thankfully solar lights have come a long way and you can get the same or better lighting from them now.
Very dangerous installation. All cables should be protected in conduit. Through grass or any soil.
