The digital future holds many concerns, but there are a whole lot of positives too. Including a possible revival of the true collector - the one concerned with knowledge and not value.

People need to discuss the ethics of collecting more often. It's not just video games.

Completely agree - which is why the Pokemon cards segment was tossed in and the MacFarlane toys story shared.

This channel is a hidden gem. LOL
The downside of going all digital is that it eliminates the middle man and the second hand market. Meaning publishers can charge $69.99 for a 5 year old Call of Duty game because that is the only way to play it. Not that they should or would, but could.
The whole grading market is FUBAR. People will try to sell a game that is less than a month old for thousands because it has a "Rare" grade of 9.8 or a perfect 10. Well no shit. It just came out of the box, of course it's going to be perfect.

It does force the hand of a potential 2nd hand market for licensing keys though. Something the industry thought about years back but never went anywhere with it. Half the games in my Steam library would be easily disposable even at a $1 each as I don't play any of them or got them free in a bundle.

So for the heck of it, decided to test a theory. I turned on ads to see if it's gets pushed harder than normal. I usually don't run ads.

As someone who always was and still is mainly a PC gamer, I was there when the beloved Big Boxes where replaced by DVD cases and the transition into the Digital World. My Steam Account is about to get 18 years old on December 24th and I honestly don´t miss the days when PC was also a physical games platform. Let´s be real, I would never be able to own anywhere near as many games in physical form as I do on Steam alone.
I also learned to love Emulation, in a sense that´s also part of the Digital Future I guess. Don´t get me wrong, it´s not because I want all the games for free, I have no issue in paying money for a good collection like Atari 50 or Castlevania Anniversary, but I know that realisticly the only way for me to ever experience a game like Panzer Dragoon Saga is to either Emulate it, or at best burn a copy and play it on my modded Saturn. I would happily pay 20-30€ if Sega would just put out even a bare minumum effort re-release of it that is just a bunch of ISO files and a Emulator, but even that option just isn´t there.

Indeed - the road forward isn't perfect, but we at least know where to start looking.

one day steam will out or steam stop sell games or windows version not supoort steam. am player on turkey recently steam stop selling our money and make game dollars and not make even console prices like sales on recent sales. ı have pc games around 300 and ea was only company make pc dvd games until 2021 end. supporting steam supporting sony pc games without blu ray when they own the blu ray is left alone crime. supporting valve is crime they not even make games anymore. all the gpus of pc and shiny flat pc cases is become junk when steam or net conenticon gone. it will gone. gabe newell is not immortal. they see the success of steam deck they can even turn a console company. they are like netfilix. not more. they also not cover all pc games. even xbox become staring cover more than pc games now. pc games since 3 years not even work on expensive gpus. 3 years is not past paling junk steam games. you cant relly emulation on pc forever. every windows new version need work to old emulators work. its not work auto forever and emulation need net connection they dont give games to you and that games can gone on net one day if companyies become more hunger. they remove games like kotor trailers everywhere.

The "Caught em slippin" deal. Heres what I'll do!. I'll list a Reproduction of a game that usually goes for an exorbitant amount for like $5-10, with no real intent to sell (because this is an experiment). I can almost guarantee that within 10 minutes a squad of scavengers will appear. I'll get them all riled up and excited to meet up because to them it's their "lucky day". I'll set a time and location for later on, and at about 3 hours before the meet I'll inform them that I've discovered that the games are in fact Reproductions and it's a surprise to me as well. I can bet any amount of money that they'll all drop out while wrinkling their noses at me as if they hold some sort of moral high ground.

I only buy digital games if they're good games on sale for less than $10, so the benefit of going all digital is that it allows me to get through my backlog of physical games. On a side note, why do you have so many copies of Lunar on your shelf?

    • @GameRaveTV
      @GameRaveTV  10 місяців тому

Variants! 1 of each variant release, with a bonus Lunar 2 signed by Victor Ireland himself!
You can see the WD chaos here:

And I’m big on the discount digital too. :)

@@GameRaveTV That makes sense. Lunar: Silver Star Story on the PS1 was the first game I bought at full price. I saw a magazine ad that said it was going away forever so I found a new, beat-up, last-remaining copy at a store and bought it.

I've thought about this alot as well. I assume the pendulum will swing back and AI/bots, etc will become a thing where they just scoure the internet for deals, mis-prices, "hacks" etc. I'm old school and still like the physical game.....collecting dust on a shelf, even if I never play the game but it at least "exists" on the shelf, opposed to on a hard drive.

Oh, I still enjoy the physical game as well, I'm simply pointing out that maybe everyone doesn't need to freak out about the digital future. It also doesn't really matter with current physical games since they're almost just half the code, or just an access key. I think if companies went digital, and then once their game reached end-of-life, THEN print the physical version with all content and patches, it would make more sense.

Here's me Butt-end of 2023 playing a Digital Remaster of the 2D Sonic games on a £/$500 PS5 on a Physicial Disc becuase it was cheaper than a Digital Copy, only to find out i needed a 8GB DOWNLOAD to play it lol
    I hate this timeline lol

Right? After this video was published, it occurred to me that the answer for the future is digital releases first - let it get its profit margins and all patches out, and once the game has its last patch, then press a limited run of physicals for the true die-hard fans. That way everyone gets to play, and then those who want the physical copy can snag it at the end for a GH price printing.
